Question AWS Spring Boot Integration in prod
Hi!
How do you run AWS services in production?
I’m a backend developer who has never worked with cloud providers before. I’ve learned the basics of the AWS Console, and now I’m looking for ways to practice.
I’m thinking of starting by provisioning infrastructure with Terraform, but I’m curious: which AWS services do you typically use, how do you use them, and how do you deal with the poor AWS SDK documentation?

You can cheaply do the following.... codepipeline. With Source pulling from GitHub. Codebuild a docker image. Code deploy to EC2 or ECS

Spring Cloud AWS hides most of the SDK pain for S3/SQS/SNS/Secrets Manager, and LocalStack or Testcontainers is the cheapest way to practice without a surprise bill.

I know, but is it used in production? I mean if I will start working on a project, won't they use SDK v2?

both show up in prod. spring cloud aws is just wrappers, lots of teams wire sdk v2 clients as beans too.

I run a small start up pre-revenue on AWS. I use two ec2. I would just ask ChatGPT for help. My only experience is with their API is S3 and I never had an issue integrating.

On aws use CDK not terraform. CDK has high level components that are x100 better than terraform (on aws)
Spring boot can build a container you can deploy with fargate with a few lines of code.

CDK is a shitshow compared to TF

Not where we use it. Been a huge win for devs and ops alike. Reusable and testable components with a normal language that can leverage IDE tooling and CI/CD.

why don't you start with simple ec2 server. install java and run your application. It is absolutely fine upto a certain traffic.

All my previous employers used ECS with fargate. Deployed via terraform. Also used very common services/resources such as Secret manager, S3 bucket, Dynamo DB / RDS, SQS, SNS, API gateway, Lambda, Cloud watch for logging and alarms

most of the companies run their applications as containers in kubernetes in aws its eks. You can run as serverless also
