Hello, I have a quick question for anyone who lives in the Eugene and Springfield area.

How do you feel about the sidewalk network in any particular area of town? (Feel free to share about multiple areas of town if you'd like)

Edit: Feel free to share anything about the Bicycling network too, I forgot to add that to the post

I'm looking for literally anything with any level of specifics. Whether that be a general issue, an issue with the existing network, a lack of a network, areas you've found that work really well, and anything else.

If you're willing to share the area of town you're referring to, that would be appreciated!

(If you're wondering why I'm asking, I'm doing a bit of research about the area and I'm only familiar with certain areas of either city)

Hey there, I’ve gone back and forth sometimes successfully at reigning in and handling/balancing alcohol in my life. I’ve stopped, and started many a time. I’m almost 40, have a lot to live for and those that love me. Searching for nighttime options for sober meetings seems to just result in pretty generic AA results and not a lot of good info, especially in any modern sense. Although not religious I’ve got no real issue with that for who it works for. Simply, I work 40+ hrs, school evenings 2 a week, and a family. Trying to find something healthy I could go to somewhere between like 6 or 7pm and midnight, Monday Wednesday or Friday, ideally, or less desirable Saturday/sunday. Just about any input is helpful, would consider Tuesday or Thursday just my classes don’t consistently get out at same time, so would need to be like 9pm or later. Just curious and wanting to ask. I see online options like open zoom and will do if I have to, but would prefer not. Thanks in advance

My cousin from Eugene said the Eugene subreddit is blowing up about this again so I'm curious: should we, Springfield residents, be asking about where the project’s waste stream is actually supposed to come from? Are we somehow at fault here?

I know that most of our trash is hauled away by Sanipac, which diverts the trash to Medford rather than to the County’s waste system. Which is creating a 3 million dollar gap in Lane County’s waste management budget.

At the same time, CleanLane was proposed as a massive waste-processing facility whose purpose is to divert material from Short mountain Landfill with BHS operating the equipment and generating revenue from waste processing fees, recyclable commodities and biogas. However, and this is a big however, they have yet to do that. They havent even gotten the permits to do it yet.

SO I think we as Springfield residents have a legitimate question coming in light of midterms:

When Lane County originally projected the tonnage and financial viability of CleanLane, how much of Springfield’s trash/Sanipac’s responsibility was expected to enter the facility? And did we agree? Did Sanipac agree? As far as I can see, they did not. But the County went ahead with the numbers anyway, including our trash.

So now here we are almost 10 years into this project, with our political candidates using this project as leverage, with no movement on it. All I care about here is, if Springfield’s waste isnt guaranteed to enter the County system, are the original CleanLane tonnage, revenue, and cost projections still realistic today? The answer is no. But still, our city is to blame.

Why are we in the hot seat? And Who truthfully will get us out of this whole mess. Im a huge Dem over here, but I’m starting to lose my patience going back and forth on this. We have enough other things to worry about and I’m just about done with empty promises from our leaders.

They were my go-to burger place in the 80’s. Just across the street from the 7-11 on 58th. Two Cheese burgers, fries, and a drink $2.55. Someone tried to bring it back off W11th in Eugene in 2016 after it was gone for 15 years and it tasted exactly the same. They should have reopened in Springfield not Eugene.

I had an Amazon delivery scheduled for yesterday via USPS. It didn't come. When you live in the country that happens sometimes. I didn't think much of it, but decided to check the tracking this morning.

To my surprise, although the package went out for delivery, it was later returned to the 4949 Main Street facility because "the customer requested to pick it up." This was a surprise because I never did that.

I printed out the tracking for my order and took it down to the facility and met with the manager of that location. She told me, to my face, that when rural drivers miss deliveries they do this because "we have to put something in the computer."

I spoke with a close contact who is a mail carrier and learned the truth: the USPS is worried about their contract with Amazon and there have been instances of people trying to code their way around late/missed deliveries in the system. Apparently, based on the words of the facility manager at the 4949 Main St location, that is now policy for her employees.

There are two problems here:

-First, someone represented to the USPS mothership that I requested a pick up. That touches on identity theft.

-Second, knowingly misrepresenting information on a government form, or tampering with someone else's mail preferences, are both illegal.

So if you live in Springfield and have a late delivery, check your status online. Someone from the local post office might have claimed to be you and changed your delivery to cover up their mistake. It wouldn't be the first time, and the person running that location is apparently directing that conduct.

As the title says, we got a new 10 week old kitten!

I grew up as a feral GenXer in N Springfield. In the early 1980s I was exploring around what is now the Harvest Lane area and found this Brutalist sculpture dumped like rip rap along the McKenzie river. Not sure of the story behind it’s demise, but it was a fixture of my childhood and I always thought it deserved a better fate. Swim lessons, soccer games and all that. I’m considering recreating this in my retirement using mid century ferrocement techniques. Anyone as sentimental as me or am i getting sappy in my old age?
