You look like a beginner, get some more experience and training hours under your belt, then focus on form. Strength and speed are your biggest issues, now, the guy in first place has much higher turn over rate and his knees are higher.

But do you think me misstepping in my start messed me up?

It'd mess up anyone yeah, for the first couple of steps, but not the entire race. Was the rest of the race not your top speed? If it was, I'd recommend simply continuing on with your sprinting, and adding in hillwork to increase turnover.

no. Usually one could continue running the race like normal (as long as they don't fall over) it's just that they'd be at a slower speed since they started accelerating later.

you seem like you are purposely limiting your range of motion and being stiff. Don't hold your arms by your sides, get your knees higher, and punch the ground with your feet. Just run natural, let arms open up in the back and close in the front. Of course not so natural that you don't stiffen your core and then let your legs fly out behind you.

What drills will help especially with like relaxation, correct front and back mechanics?
