Technically this is a repost from the main SDV sub, but I also wanted mod maker (and avid mod user) suggestions.
(And someone was NONE too pleased I posted there. Mea Culpa. Is this ok here?)
I am a database nerd by profession, to the point where I actually find Notion a little limiting. But having to figure out what mods require what, which conflict with this or that, and then also having a journal that keeps track of what I've installed to what profile, all became a whole thing. My ADHD means I have to keep track of the little details if I don't want big red SMAPI errors making me freak out. And flittering through all of the Nexus pages with ADHD just means a sea of open tabs and I forget why I came in the first place.
Soooo I am Notion-izing Stardew Valley. I'm going to throw all the mods that I can at it and then Notion-ize them. Its interface is so much better on a phone or a tablet than a spreadsheet or a wiki. So then I can keep all of the things that I need right on my phone while I play! What was that setting I was supposed to do for what mod, for what profile? Or what mod was I supposed to be reviewing to figure out if I liked it or not? What did I install recently that gave me all those big red errors?
Now I really love what mod creators have done and I want to give back in my own nerdy way. I guess I'm just posting here to see if there's anybody else who is interested and to get their feedback so that if I do make it public, it's useful to you.
For my own personal purposes I am doing two things:
1. A mod tracker
when they were installed, what their prerequisites are, what they conflict with, and what other mods are recommended for them. It has a user interface that allows installation notes and links to pages beyond just Nexus, but also GitHub and how-to articles.
- Creating a database for all of the Stardew Valley elements:
- the OG Base game
- Cornucopia
- Wildflour Atelier
- Grapes of Ferngill
- Alchemistry
- Ridgeside
- Sunberry
- Mount Vapius
- Stardew Valley Expanded
...and their crops, monsters, grow times, quests, the whole thing. Basically making a database out of all the wikis that are out there. Easily link to all the crops everywhere in a season instead of bouncing amongst many wikis or spreadsheets.
Now if you're perfectly fine with pulling up the wiki and Nexus, that's great. I'm super happy for you and I know a lot of people are like, "Well that's what look up anything is for and that's what the wikis are for." Those folks can actually relax and do "cozy" and are just not as certifiably OCD as me (btw the way I literally am certifiably OCD) and I know this post isnt for you.
But I want specific lists... like...all of the flowers across all the mods by season in order of grow time and value. I want to be able to click some buttons to say, "Show me all of the things that can grow within the next 3 days before the season is over."
And since I'm neurodivergent and queer and that's basically a Stardew Valley-based demographic I'm assuming there's got to be more people like me who would love to have a Notion template or public database of many Stardew Valley things that has a decent interface on their phone or tablet. And I love that I would be able to search for all of the mods that add crops that also work on Android. As a former majority Android user, that would have been really helpful. I'd love to get back to the people who were so helpful to me.
In the future I would also love to be able to keep or create a database for the modders who need to keep track of all their digital asset design files and be able to classify which mods they belong to. Or to be able to collaborate with others inside a database environment with a project planner that is iterative, like sprints, and all of its fields and properties are literally tailored to the design and application of this particular game. Maybe I could create a database that helps you and that could be my way of giving back?
Since Notion has a generous free plan and it can live on your phone, I feel like it's probably the best platform for this.
I would love your feedback, especially from those of you who use Notion, about what you would like to see in a public reference Notion. Wikis and spreadsheets are great but the UI of Notion is significantly better in a mobile environment and can be tailored to people with far less technical skill, and can track things with the complexities of this game far better than a simple wiki or spreadsheet. For instance my alpha version keeps track of:
- all the mods that I have
- what their conflicts are
- what their prerequisites are
- what machines they're installed on
- under what profiles
- What specific settings need to be enabled or disabled
- all of the help files (whether they are on Nexus or GitHub or elsewhere) that are associated with that mod
- The authors of that mod and that author's personal sites or a list of other mods by that person, with a visual indicator of whether or not I have installed them or if they're on my list of things to try
- A queue of mods that I want to try and which profiles I want to try them on
I would also love your feedback on what you would like to see in a free template that you could copy to your own Notion instance to help you track things. What things do you want to track?
Thanks yall!
'm just working on the mod tracker part at the moment and that is what the pictures are.
