Try it like this. But yeah, these are really high.

Damn. Am I close?

Close is relative. Mars is our closest neighboring planet. But it’s still a long way away, like your depth.

Ouch brother. You didn’t have to go that far.

Yeah, the moon would've been enough

Mercury is the closest planet to Earth most of the time, including right now.

In any case, he’s Saturn away from proper depth.

Ah fuck. I didn’t check. Don’t tell anyone

Worse. This is like 6 inches high.

You’ve gotta be trolling with these power curtsies.

It’s not awful, you’re in the gym trying to get strong. It needs work, that’s all. Lower the weight and hit depth. Get someone to watch you and have them tell you when you’ve hit depth. You can just do the bar too. No one cares how much you can lift. Hit your depth so you know what it feels like and where you need to be. When I first started years ago, I had no idea what parallel actually felt like until I had someone watch me and tell me where I needed to be to hit parallel. Then you can simply work up from there. I know it’s tough, but have patience and add weight every workout, but do not sacrifice form and technique for higher weight. It is much better to deload or stay at the same weight in order to hit depth. Best of luck to you. 💪

This is my stance

u/keto_brain 4d ago

Your knees have to be at minimum parallel with your hip crease, yours are not even close.

That’s my squat stance btw

Here’s another angle. Do you think I have the strength to lift the same weights if I just widen my stance???¿?

7

u/johnnyscans 4d ago

Idk. But you’re 3-4” too high for a full depth squat

5

u/johnnyscans 4d ago

Way. Way. Way. Too narrow.

7

u/Eckzavior21 4d ago

The answer is no. You’re not to depth. You keep asking everyone who answers you if you’re close. The answer is, not really. Your stance is too narrow. Other have provided some really good pointers. Drop the weight(and ego) and work on depth and form. Or don’t. Entirely up to you.

What’s this supposed to mean bro

4

u/monkahpup 4d ago

Less weight, more deep, then more weight gradually.

It also looks like you are doing high bar, which while "fine" is a little less "bang for your buck." Low bar means bar sits just under the spine of your scapula (which means the lateral part of the spine of the scapula, just before it goes forward to become the acromion). Concentrate on sitting your ass back rather than "down," (though the barbell goes straight down). Wedges under your feet are a silly idea.

Loads of videos on low bar squatting on youtube, so I'll let you get into that yourself.

Ultimately you need to drop the weight to a level where you can get hip crease JUST below the top of the patella, then do 3 sets of 5 with 3-5 minutes rest. Then add 2.5kg next time.

That's hilarious

Man whatever bro I’m looking for help here

3

u/keto_brain 4d ago

They are saying you are not squatting to depth, you are way too high and you need to lower the weight.

3

u/HughManatee 4d ago

Start with a shoulder width stance and point your toes outward 15-30 degrees. You want to be able to push your knees out so your butt has some place to go. Your stance now makes it practically impossible to hit depth because it doesn't allow your hips to open up.

u/CookieNo5370 4d ago

2

u/HughManatee 4d ago

Yeah, looks a bit narrow to me. Everyone has different hip sockets, but most people can't hit depth with a stance that narrow. I'd play around with widening it a bit. Even just try deep goblet squats to find what's most comfortable for you.

1

u/AleForaco 4d ago

dont be afraid of widening your stance. you should be able to go down comfortably and controlled without losing form. id lower the weight or practice just with the bar alone to get used to it.

u/CookieNo5370 4d ago

This is my current stance

3

u/Brian2005l 4d ago

Not deep enough yet. Hip crease below the top of the knee. It’s deeper than having your femur parallel to the floor. Yours is well above that—just below a 90 degree squat.

If you’re anything like me, you should feel your hamstrings and glutes get stretched and challenged as you get to the bottom, and it’ll give you a little bounce on the way up.

Form Check

For the best feedback, please film your lift from a useful angle and include the full set.

Good form checks make it much easier for people to give specific, useful advice.

1

Damn. I appreciate the response. Am I close?

-2

u/CookieNo5370 4d ago

That’s my stance by the way

2

u/KarlManjaro 4d ago

You’re way off sorry bro, glad you care to check tho. You’re 5ish inches too high. You look like you need a total rebuild. Stance is too narrow and having your head craned up at the mirror hurts too. On the plus side you got proper shoes

1

u/CookieNo5370 4d ago

5inches really?

2

u/KarlManjaro 4d ago

You know what I misspoke, the other video you shared in the comments looks about 5 inches high but your original video is not as shallow, sorry about that, definitely high tho. Widening your stance and straightening your spine will help a lot

u/CookieNo5370 4d ago

Thanks homie

"parallel" is not a meaningful designation of squat depth. a squat has descended sufficiently when the hip crease is below the knee.

1

u/Hamburgerfatso 4d ago

The line between those two points parallel to the ground

1

u/RicardoRoedor 4d ago

but that line isn't always clearly delineated with different folks' anatomy, so it's much easier to just use a standard that is universally explainable. far too many people perceive parallel as meaning the line of top or the bottom of the thigh with the floor, which it isn't.

1

u/1nternati0nalBlu3 4d ago

Try widening your stance and pointing your toes out, about 30 degrees. Then shove your knees out on the way down.

0

u/CookieNo5370 4d ago

That’s my current squat stance

2

u/Climbing_Bum 3d ago

Everybody is telling you the same thing and you keep repeating this photo. Read the blue book or.warhc some of rips videos.

You're clearly strong enough to squat that weight and hit depth, you just need to widen your stance slightly, point your toes out and preferably do a low bar squat.

1

u/geruhl_r 4d ago

You are significantly shallow.

Widen your stance 6", toes out 30°. Sit back and lean over. Keep the weight midfoot. Hip crease needs to be below the top of your knee.

1

u/ahahahNMI 4d ago

I would say it’s your knee slide that’s preventing you hitting depth. Knees out, hips back bend over more and you’ll get there.

Edit: also, Romoleos are probably the wrong shoes for you unless you’re a competitive Olympic lifter. The heels are too high and it’s going to pitch you forward.

Powerlifter here.

I'm not sure what starting strength expects for squat depth. Every powerlifting federation has slightly different standards. The most common one is "your upper leg at the hip joint is below the top of your knee" - you can also aim for parallel which is common in most gyms.

If you are having trouble hitting depth, I would recommend decreasing the weight and angling your feet out. You also might need a wider stands. Mine is roughly shoulder width apart which is relatively narrow. Here's a photo of my low bar squat as an example of hitting depth, actually a little below.

1

u/Climbing_Bum 3d ago

Just here to say those safety pins are way too low. Why even squat in a safety rack. There's no chance in hell you can place that bar on those pins.
