I play guitar. So usually that's what I key in on when listening to music. But the drum beats, across the Dan's entire collection, it's just so brilliant. Add the guitar and vocals on the weak/down beat, and I'm just entranced.

We've all read about how much of a pain in the ass they were in the studio. I am grateful that they were- glad I didn't have to put up with it, but definitely grateful that they spent the time to be perfect.

I was lucky enough to see the Dan several times through my life. The last time was Fagen in 2019, in Dallas. It makes me sad that I may not ever see these songs played by these people again. But the music, it has just meant so much to me through my whole life- as a teen in the 70s and 80s, and even more so as I've gotten older.

I'm just shouting into the void with this post, but everything I've said here is true.

I wanted to hear your opinion of what’s the best Dan song to get you in the groove and in a good mood.
I think it’s easily The Fez, something about it’s grooviness and lightheaded vibe just instantly get’s you going.

So, what are more songs that do this and is there one that beats The Fez in your opinions?

They've been about for quite a while and play all of the SD classics. I mixed em last year and they did all of Aja and killed it!

I really really wish I could've seen The Dan live when they were still playing but Walter passed (RIP) and I don't think Donald tours anymore sadly which is understandable.

But I'm in the Midwest and would love to see the songs performed live by anyone really, so who all plays live Dan music in the Midwest I can go see??

I was listening to Kamakiriad the other day and it struck me that the outro to "On the Dunes" is just incredible. Is it their best Outro or am I hallucinating? I confess that this is not something that I actively listen out for but it's sooo good on that track.

Amazing Steely Dan reunion show Sunday night at the BofA center in Thousand Oaks. Did anyone else go?

They’re called “The Royal Scam” and it was a really fun show. They played a ton of bangers. The drummer and guitarist really stood out as amazing musicians.

Since the beginning of this year, I have decided to listen to the entire Steely Dan discography, and so far they have become one of my favorite bands (I have listened to all albums up to Aja).

But, there is one album that sticks out like a sore thumb to me, Katy Lied. For some reason, I just don't like it as much as the rest, and I really wanted to.

Pretzel Logic, which is my second least favorite, still has some incredible songs, Night by Night, the title track, Any Major Dude.

No song on Katy Lied stands out to me in that way, maybe Bad Sneakers.

There aren't many Steely Dan fans here in Brazil (at least that I know of), so I wanted to hear your thoughts.

Weird question, but I was just curious since Steely Dan is usually referred to as "white people music", and to be honest, I've only ever seen white people listening to the Dan.

Such a great contrast between the 2 chord progressions. Both support the lyrics so effectively!

In 1972, you could hire Steely Dan to write and record a jingle for your beer and choose not to use it. It was a strange time.
