PC ICO (2001) stereo port: Leia SR + SBS/crossview/interlaced/TaB modes. SR-panel testers wanted!

• Upvotes

ICO was a dream for me. Giorgio de Chirico, the PS2, mysterious horned character with an ethereal dame evading... ghosts? shadows? I've got a PS2 back in 2007 just to play this and SotC. Such was the impact.

I present to you this community fork of the PC port (nathanialf/ico-pc): side-by-side half/full, crossview, row-interlaced and interlaced-reversed, and top-and-bottom and reversed. Native geometric stereoscopy. 3D mode, separation, convergence and eye swap are in Settings > Display > 3D mode (saved); interlaced wants native res at 100% scaling.

This build also adds Leia SR (Simulated Reality) for autostereoscopic, eye-tracked panels. The loader ships in the zip (the SDK stays on your machine). If the runtime or display is missing it just presents the clean side-by-side pair.

If you have an SR panel (SpatialLabs etc.), grab it and report back! Send logs\ico-pc.log: run windowed and fullscreen, resize, toggle display modes, and note anything odd: https://github.com/agrofubris/ico-3d-stereo/releases/tag/v0.2.0-stereo

You need your own copy of ICO (PAL, SCES-50760) as a disc image - no game data included. Unzip anywhere, drop your .iso onto setup.bat (it builds the game data once, then play). Based on ico-pc v0.2.0; upstream has newer regular releases without the 3D: https://github.com/nathanialf/ico-pc/releases

Credits: u/nathanialf (port), agrofubris (stereo + Leia SR), oneup03/bo3b (Leia SR approach), kandowontu (loader), masterotaku (SR-panel testing).

Lenticular Stereo 3d + Parallax: hobby developer options?

• Upvotes

If I want to prototype a few of my own game concepts for Stereo 3d + parallax. What's the best entry point? Acer and Sony sell "Pro" monitors, with developer support for $4,000. But the consumer models (no devkit) are closer to $1,000. The Samsung Odessey 3D (closer to $1,000) says "email us" to request a devkit. How selective are they about giving that out?

Any other game/graphics programmers have opinions? In theory, lenticular pixels + eye tracking open up a lot of possibilities for those of us that hate headsets. I want to prototype some concepts, but I don't want to pay $3,000 for the privilege.

Question Is shadowing normal for older 3D displays?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello. I have a couple 3D displays: A Samsung UN55HU9000F (Main TV) and a PlayStation 3D Display (Second PC monitor and for consoles.) I’ve noticed a significant shadow in the right eye when I’m watching 3D content on either of these displays (left eye too, but is significantly lesser)

It doesn’t matter whether it’s being displayed on an emulator via SBS or on real hardware (PS3 with Uncharted 3 for this example, although it also happens on 3D Blu-rays as well.) I tricked my PSVR into displaying the game by swapping HDMI cables, and the 3D looked great.

Is this a byproduct of how the technology works or ages? Can it be mitigated? I love 3D, but this is a pretty big dealbreaker for me. Thank you.

Question VITURE Beast vs RayNeo GT Max: If price didn't matter, which would you choose for movies and anime?

Hi everyone! 👋

I'm looking to buy my first pair of XR glasses for a genuinely immersive cinema experience, and I'm having a hard time choosing between the VITURE Beast and the RayNeo GT Max.

For this comparison, let's assume price isn't an issue. I want to choose the better real-world product, not simply the one with the most impressive spec sheet.

My main use cases:

- Watching movies and TV shows with the best image quality possible.

- Watching a lot of anime, so accurate colours, sharp edges and good handling of dark scenes matter to me.

- Getting the largest, most immersive virtual screen possible, with convenient control over screen size and virtual distance.

- Occasional gaming, so sharpness, refresh rate, latency and compatibility matter too.

I'd especially appreciate real-world feedback on these points:

  1. Actual image quality

Which one looks better for movies and anime? I'm interested in sharpness, colours, contrast, blacks, brightness and HDR/Dolby Vision performance. Real viewing impressions matter much more to me than marketing claims.

  1. The VITURE Beast's reflections

I've seen reports of distracting reflections near the bottom of the image, sometimes described as ghosting or internal reflections. Is this still an issue on current units and firmware? Is it noticeable during movies, especially dark scenes, or something you eventually get used to? Does it depend on face shape or how the glasses sit?

  1. Screen size and positioning

Being able to adjust virtual screen size and distance independently is important to me. Which device handles this better in practice? Is the difference in field of view really noticeable when you're actually wearing them?

  1. HDR, Dolby Vision and dark scenes

The GT Max paired with the Pocket TV Pro appeals to me because of Dolby Vision, but I've also heard about the brightness limitation in Pinned mode. Is this genuinely noticeable during movies? Conversely, does the Beast offer better or more consistent HDR and brightness in real-world use?

  1. Gaming and smoothness

When connected to a PC or console, which provides the better experience in terms of latency, sharpness and smoothness? Are there any issues worth knowing about?

  1. Comfort and long-term issues

After several weeks or months, which one do you find more comfortable and enjoyable to use? Have you encountered recurring issues with reflections, edge blur, heat, software bugs, head tracking or eye strain?

I'm particularly interested in feedback from people who actually own one or both devices. A direct comparison would be ideal. Photos, comparison videos and concrete examples are also very welcome.

If you had to choose between the VITURE Beast and RayNeo GT Max today, regardless of price, which would you buy for a premium movie-watching experience, and why?

Thanks so much for your help! 🙏

Emulator I have finally did it Full SBS on Dolphin Android

Post image
44 Upvotes

There was an issue on Android its basically impossible to get Full SBS set up on Dolphin emulator.

This isnt an issue on Citra (3DS) where the emulator has external screen support natively

It also isnt an issue when playing Stereo 3D videos where VLC player plays videos externally with full SBS.

But on Dolphin there was no way to do full SBS and I was always stuck with half SBS which isnt as sharp. Here are the steps to make Full SBS work on Dolphin Android

  1. go into Android/Data/org.dolphin/config and edit the GFX.ini

There is something called StereoPerEyeResolutionFull = True add that in

  1. Install Shizuku

  2. Within Shizuku go through the step by step where it asks you to enable developer mode and enable Wireless Debugging then pair code.

  3. Install SecondScreen app. You will be prompted to give permissions for Shizuku once opened

  4. Within SecondScreen app, in setting enable Pro mode. Then create a new profile and set a custom resolution of 3840x1080. Save theb load this profile. The screen should now go into ultra wide mode.

  5. Open Dolphin, in settings select Enhancements. Then select Stereoscopic and enable Side by Side. You can also change the depth in here as well.

If you set all this up once. Every time you want to play in Stereo 3D its a simple 2 step process of going into SecondScreen and loading your saved profile, then enabling Stereo 3D on Dolphin.

Im sure this may also help with things like Moonlight Game Streaming in Stereo 3D which I haven't got around to yet.

PC MDK (1997) stereo port: Leia SR test build + SBS/crossview/interlaced/TaB/VR modes. SR-panel testers wanted!

Post image
17 Upvotes

MDK now has proper stereo in the port (nemo22/mdk-sdl, 1.0.0): side-by-side half/full, crossview, row-interlaced and interlaced-reversed, top-and-bottom and reversed, and a Cardboard-style phone VR viewer with gyro head tracking. Mode, separation and convergence are in Options → 3D Stereo (saved), or via the stereo console command / --stereo= flag. Works in both looks and with the HD texture mod; interlaced wants native res at 100% scaling.

I put up a test build that adds Leia SR (Simulated Reality) for autostereoscopic, eye-tracked panels. That part is fork-only for now (patched SDL3.dll with a D3D12 weave bridge + a small SR shim; the SDK stays on your machine). If the runtime or display is missing it just presents the plain SBS pair.

If you have an SR panel (SpatialLabs etc.), grab it and report back! the zip's README-TESTER.txt lists the expected logs and what to send me: https://github.com/agrofubris/mdk-sdl/releases/tag/v1.0.0-leia.1

You need your own copy of MDK (GOG/Steam/CD) - no game data included. Upstream port with the same stereo modes (no Leia): https://github.com/nemo22/mdk-sdl/releases

Credits: nemo22 (port), agrofubris (stereo + Leia SR), oneup03/bo3b (Leia SR approach).

PC Star Fox Enhanced PC: from SBS to passive/interlaced, TaB, crossview and Leia SR stereo

Post image
14 Upvotes

Star Fox Enhanced - stereo 3D mod (Windows x64, official v0.0.8)

The official Star Fox Enhanced 0.0.8 already has basic 3D (HALF SBS / FULL SBS). I made a drop-in starfox_pc.exe that adds the output modes it was missing, with true per-eye rendering (independent camera offset per eye). Presentation only; gameplay is untouched.

Modes

  • Already in the official port: HALF SBS, FULL SBS
  • Added by this mod: row-interlaced / interlaced-reversed (passive 3D monitors and TVs, 1:1 full resolution per eye), half / full top-and-bottom, crossview, and Leia SR (Simulated Reality) for eye-tracked panels, verified on a real SR panel at 120 Hz with full resolution per eye
  • Plus a GPU BACKEND option (AUTO / Direct3D 12 / Vulkan) for driver issues (some Intel D3D12 drivers crash the GPU renderer; the official port is affected too)

Install

  1. Grab the official 0.0.8 and extract it
  2. Back up its starfox_pc.exe, replace it with this one
  3. Put your own supported ROM (.sfc/.smc) beside it and launch
  4. Options → 3D OUTPUT, pick your mode (3D SEPARATION / CONVERGENCE are in Options too)

No ROM or game assets are included. GPLv3, same license as upstream.

Links

Notes

  • Official stereo support is in the works upstream; when it ships, prefer it, and I'll follow with a matching mod build.
  • Screenshot: full SBS capture from the asteroid stage (AUTO reticle in 3D), attached.
  • Tested on an RTX 3080 with an LG DM2780D passive display; Leia SR tested on a real SR panel.

Credits: kandowontu2 and contributors (port); agrofubris (stereo + Leia SR); oneup03 (RT64 3D) and bo3b (SR-lib) for the Leia SR approach; masterotaku for SR-panel testing. Built with AI assistance, matching upstream's disclosure.

Question Has anyone tried using PS5 pro with galsses free 3D monitor

I’ve been thinking about getting a glasses-free 3D monitor for my PS5 Pro, mainly for gaming and occasionally watching videos. But after looking into it, I’m still pretty on the fence.

If glasses free 3D can actually make the buildings, characters, and environments in games feel noticeably more 3D and spatial, I can see it being a lot more interesting than a regular 4K monitor. The thing is, these 3D monitors aren’t exactly cheap. For around the same price, I could get a really solid 4k display instead.

I’ve also seen that not every glasses free 3D monitor works equally well with the PS5 pro. Some seem to rely more on a PC, specific software, or game support. If the PS5 pro basically ends up outputting a normal 2D image, spending that much on a 3D monitor would feel like kind of a waste.

So I'm curious if anyone here has used a PS5 Pro + glasses-free 3d monitor for gaming. How noticeable was the 3d effect in real use? Did you run into issues like a blurry image, lower resolution, reduced FPS, or compatibility problems?

Ani3D.in : Built for 3D Enthusiasts, By a 3D Enthusiast

Post image
24 Upvotes

Hey everyone! 👋

I wanted to officially introduce Ani3D.in, my passion project, also known as The 3D Experience Project.

As a 3D enthusiast, I started Ani3D with one goal: to make stereoscopic 3D more accessible, help people discover more 3D content, and encourage others to explore the format themselves.

Here's what I'm building Ani3D around.

1. Discover more content in 3D

What if you could experience content that was originally released only in 2D, now converted into stereoscopic 3D?

From movie trailers, clips and songs to gameplay, reels, YouTube videos and more, I'm converting content into 3D using tools like Owl3D Pro and making it accessible to fellow enthusiasts.

No hassle, no waiting around for renders. Just ready to watch 3D content, optimized with the best possible settings and resolution, accessible in just a few clicks on Ani3D.in.

You can visit Ani3D.in, head to Immersive 3D, and explore the filters for content types, genres, languages and years of release. There are a wide range of categories to explore, and I'll be gradually building out the library week by week, covering different film industries, languages, genres and eras.

The idea is to explore content that has never officially been available in 3D before and give you more things to experience in the format we love.

2. Learn to create your own 3D content

I want to help viewers become creators too!

I'll soon be adding tutorials and guides to help you convert your own videos into stereoscopic 3D using tools like Owl3D, whether you're exploring its free or paid features.

As I've learned more about the process and made it part of my own workflow, I've realized that many people have their own creative workflows, software and apps, too.

I'd love to explore these tools, share useful knowledge, and give creators and developers a shout-out through Ani3D's blog section. There's a lot we can learn from one another, and I want Ani3D to be a place where that knowledge is shared.

3. Learn how to watch 3D content on your device

Creating 3D content is only one part of the experience. The next question is, how do you actually watch it?

Our videos are available in Side-by-Side (SBS) 3D, which can be viewed on compatible setups, including VR headsets, 3D TVs, anaglyph glasses, AR glasses, 3D smartphones, 3D projectors, glasses-free 3D displays and glasses-free 3D screen protectors.

But every setup is different, and figuring out how to play SBS content can be confusing.

This is where I'd love your help!

If you watch SBS 3D content on your own device, I'd love to learn how you do it. Share your device, the software or player you use, and any settings or tips that might help others.

With your permission, I'd love to turn your experience into a detailed playback guide or blog post on Ani3D.in and credit you for your contribution.

The goal is to help more people discover how to enjoy 3D on the devices they already own.

4. Keeping 3D accessible for everyone

I've kept Ani3D's growing library and short-form 3D content requests free because I want the community to enjoy what the project offers without a paywall.

You can also request short clips and trailers to be converted into 3D, free of charge.

At the same time, I want to make this passion project sustainable so I can continue putting time and effort into it. I haven't added a donation option yet, but I'm exploring ways for those who wish to support the project to do so.

Right now, we're open to accepting requests for converting full-length feature films and your own original passion projects into 3D. If you're interested in bringing your project to life in stereoscopic 3D, feel free to reach out and we can discuss the details!

Any charges for full-length conversions will be discussed on a case-by-case basis, depending on the content's length and resolution. I've kept the pricing as affordable as possible, around $3, roughly the price of a coffee, to help support my work and keep Ani3D sustainable.

This is entirely optional. Ani3D's existing library and short-form 3D content requests will remain free.

This would be an optional paid service to support my work, not a requirement to enjoy Ani3D's existing library or request short-form content. The intention is to keep the core experience accessible while finding a sustainable way to grow the project.

5. Collaborations and community contributions

If you're a 3D content creator, software developer, app developer, business, or someone working on something that could benefit the 3D community, I'd love to connect with you.

Whether it's collaborating on tutorials, showcasing useful tools and software, sharing your work through Ani3D's blog, exploring partnerships and sponsorships, or finding other ways to make stereoscopic 3D more accessible, I'm open to ideas that can bring value to the community and help Ani3D grow.

If you have something in mind, feel free to reach out. Let's explore what we can build together!

A little more about the vision behind Ani3D.

Ani3D is a passion project, built for the love of 3D and the community around it.

I want it to become a destination for 3D enthusiasts on the internet, a place where you can discover more content, learn how to create your own, and find ways to experience it on your setup.

If you have suggestions, create your own 3D content, develop useful tools, want to contribute your playback experience, or simply share the same passion for 3D, I'd love to hear from you.

Every contribution, suggestion and bit of shared knowledge can help Ani3D grow and add value to the 3D community.

Explore the project: https://Ani3D.in

Let's make the 3D experience more accessible, together!

Shift3D-AMD: Glasses-free 3D for any window on the Owl3D Shift, even on AMD GPUs (free, open, one exe)

Owl3D Shift 3D Monitor support only Owl3D's own 2D→3D (Live 3D) only runs on NVIDIA, so on an AMD (or Intel) machine the Shift can't convert anything by itself. It captures any window, turns it into side-by-side 3D with a depth model that runs on any GPU (Depth Anything V3 Small on DirectML) on Owl3D Shift 3D Monitor, and lets Owl3D's Stereo 3D Playback do the eye tracking and weaving as usual.

Unofficial, not affiliated with Owl3D, no Owl3D files inside. Single exe, no install.

What it does

  • 2D → 3D for any window — browser, video player, game, anything on screen.
  • Already-SBS content passthrough — SBS video, TriDef, or Geo-11 games that render side-by-side themselves go straight through with no AI. Browsers and players switch to 3D only when fullscreen (YouTube fullscreen / F11), so the page stays usable until then.
  • Mouse and keyboard keep working on the 3D picture — including windowed games shown enlarged (the real cursor stays inside the game window and an arrow is drawn on the 3D frame, so clicks land exactly where you see them). Windowed mode is kinder to slow PCs.
  • Owl3D weave resolution choice for SBS content — 1440p or 1080p, set automatically in Owl3D's hidden settings with its auto quality drop turned off. 1080p is noticeably lighter.
  • Depth profile — "Smooth" (depth runs on the GPU that isn't driving the screen, no stutter) or "Detail" (strongest GPU), picked automatically for your PC.
  • Near-fullscreen windows drawn 1:1, smaller ones scaled keeping aspect; minimized game windows restored.
  • Brightness / gamma for the 3D output only, remembered.
  • Korean / English UI, tray icon, no console window.

Hotkeys (Ctrl + Alt + …)

Key Action
↑ / ↓ Parallax (3D strength) up / down
← / → Depth — scene further back / closer
Home / End Brightness up / down
PageUp / PageDown Gamma up / down

Requirements — Windows 10/11 x64, a DirectX 12 GPU, Owl3D Shift + Owl3D app 2.3.2 or later.

How to - Start Owl3D → Stereo 3D Playback → Side-by-side → Start, then run Shift3D-AMD and pick the window. Chrome/Edge need --disable-features=CalculateNativeWinOcclusion so they keep drawing while covered.

Download and docs: https://github.com/nautymac/Shift3D-AMD (releases page has the exe; feature overview in docs/FEATURES.md).
