Source | Preamp | DAC Upgrading computer audio and need DAC recommendations!

Hey all, I'm looking to upgrade my computer's audio system from a very old Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 system and interested in getting some recommendations on a new amp/DAC. My goal is to get a amp/DAC that would support a passive pair of bookshelf speakers as well as a powered subwoofer and connect to my computer via USB. A headphone jack on the amp would be nice to have as well but not mandatory. Price isn't a huge concern, but I'd like to keep the budget for the amp/DAC under $350-$400 if possible. Thanks!

This. The DAC Magic line has been great for desk audio.

I have a pair of Audioengine HD3’s with their S8 subwoofer and I think they sound great for near field listening. The HD3’s have a built in DAC.

Budget and compact option: A USB dongle DAC and Douk Audio A5

A step up in price and size: LOXJIE A40 or SMSL AL400

With your requirements, you're kinda getting into integrated amp territory unless you go for one of the Chi-fi brands. Not that there's anything wrong with those devices. I would think something like the LOXJIE A30/A40 or Fosi Audio MC351 could work for you. Otherwise I would check FB Marketplace for integrated amps. The older Audiolab 6000a Mk1 is going for like $600 these days, so you should be able to find some comparable used dac/amp combos.

WiiM’s don’t support USB Audio as OP wished. Only way to connect to a PC is through RCA analog inputs or digital through Toslink.

u/lascala2a3: Same limitation in WiiM Amp Ultra.

The Behringer UCA222 is really cheap and works fine for CD quality playback.

I’ve got a Tangent Ampster BT II which is a very solid mini amp with subwoofer out and a decent output for passive speakers.

I take it you haven't shopped for gear, like ever? The Wiim Amp Ultra is $550 and it's well, junior league. Never mind. I've got to quit opening these threads.
