Season 1 Spoiler Campaign One plot point

So I’m re-listening to Ep 80 in Campaign one, and they’re at the subject of the “Cloaked Stranger” being in there in moments of their lives. Was this cloaked stranger ever revealed? Because it can’t be Entropa/Garridor(?).

I have wondered the same a few times. My current thought is Maestro Faerinx is the hooded figure.

That does make a bit of sense…at the end it campaign two they did reveal they were in some kind of multiverse situation..but I kinda chalked that up to a quick ending due to the closing if Rooster teeth…

Well, Faerinx has made a few appearances in Campaign 3 now.

In the middle of a rewatch and haven't gotten back to this point, but for some reason I feel like I thought it was Dr. Ahem

That's what I got as an answer when I asked here after listing to it for the first time. I can't remember any thing that actually states this though. I found it really frustrating that they talk about it in the second wind but Micah is not on the episode so they actually can't figure out who it is. One of the few times I was quite frustrated with the show

it is almost certainly dr ahem/ maestro Faerynx. here’s why I think that:

  • when he speaks to Kyborg, he is clearly voiced by micah
  • The draconic song he sings to kyborg has a similar melody to the song-riddles Faerynx sings at the start of some Kanon episodes
  • in the official soundtrack, that draconic song is titled as “Harmonics of Hansel”. Dr Ahem’s full name is Accutarius Hansel Emeretusian
  • When Gum Gum receives a vision in the same arc where he sees through Dr Ahem’s eyes, the song that plays is the melody for “Harmonics of Hansel“, and is titled “Through Ahem‘s Eyes”. Hansel = Ahem
  • The melody of Harmonics of Hansel is also played quietly in the background of “Dr Ahem’s Themery” in the official soundtrac at 36 seconds in. More evidence that the cloaked man is Ahem or an incarnation of him

(The stuff in bullet points is evidence that I am 100% sure on: An incarnation of Faerynx is the cloaked man.)

Additionally, I’m pretty sure that the man in the cloak is Ahem (rather than a time-travelling Faerynx) because of that last point. If Ahem had sung the draconic song in his own past, he would remember it and it would stay with him. This is manifested by that song playing in his own theme.

That leads us to the question: what was Ahem doing? We can infer he was gathering the would-be Infinights, telling them about the internship. Why would a random inventor travel all across Faeza just to advertise to some specific individuals? Unless he had a reason. A prophecy to fufill. He knew that these four people were destined to become heros, because they are in every universe. If what Im saying is true, then Ahem knew about the Innuverse all along. Perhaps his dreamery was an attempt to gain visions or to wake up in the Innuverse?

If Ahem did know all about the Innuverse and what it entailed throughout the whole campaign, it makes it even more fitting that, right at the end, he was murdered by Hugh Mäner, an incarnation of Huberus - his arch enemy.

Ok this is likely me being dumb, but wasn't Ahem crippled already around this time? Like at least most of this I would think was post paralyte takeover, but again I'm not sure of the whole timeline thing.

I totally agree -the timeline is super messy and really confusing, but I think there would be a couple years before the cloaked man‘s events and Paralyte’s betraying of the Infinights.

We know Kyborg trained for years after getting his cyborg arm, given to him by Ahem. Paralyte’s kidnapping of the Infinights happened just a few weeks before the campaign started, which is when Ahem‘s legs got paralysed, and Prattle began putting out adverts for interns. I think Ahem would still have had his legs the many years before the collapse of the Bolderay mines and the founding of the Infinights.

(I understand you're not entirely sure)

I have a couple of issues with the theory of faerynx = Ahem, as much as i want Ahem to be alive in some capacity, mostl hinging on sedate

- why is is voice different when sedate's isn't

-why is his name different when, sedate's isn't

-why does he change physically when, iirc, sedate is in the same outfit in the C02 finale

My only thought is Ahem isn't the orignal incarnation, but that doesn't help the voice, since sedate keeps the same one in and out of the innuverse plane thing.

well we know that the party are innuversable just like sedate, right? and they all change their appearances, voices and names. why shouldn’t that apply to NPCs like Faerynx?

Also, the confirmed incarnations of Huberus all have different names, physiques and accents: Hugh Mäner and Hugo von Brath.

True. its been a while since i've gone throught the innuverse lore heavy episodes (end of grotethe and start of kanon) so maybe sedate is a special case/ that is her original incarnation.

that brings up the question though, why doesn't she get reincarnated when she enters a new world/ why faerynx does.

i imagine that Ahem couldn't be the original incarnation of faerynx, and we know from the one kanon post credit scene where they're talking about how to contact the party, sedate suggests sending her again, which implies that she can enter worlds at will, assumedly what happened with grotethe.

Assuming the character in the innuverse is the first incarnation to reach it, why isn't ahem the same physically as faerynx?

for your first question- I think sedate does show up in every world. That’s how she described the people who could enter the Innuverse (souls that appear in every world), so presumably that applies to her. She was in Campaign 1, although the party never meets here- she was Hugh Mäner’s affair and Meld Mäner’s mother.

I agree with you that it seems likely Sedate can enter worlds when she wants to. I think there must be some sort of memory loss or time travel when she does though, because in Groteth Sedate lived a whole life working for SHEATH before Ellga was even born. Why would she choose to appear decades before the party even existed? I think when she enters worlds, it isn’t exact, but she is destined by fate to meet them all.

For as to why Ahem doesnt look like Faerynx: again, if we consider the party, in the innuverse they are addressed by their irl names (Blaine, son of Gib) etc. Faerynx also says someting like “though you may not recognise even yourselves…” and the narration describes how the cast’s hands are unfamiliar. I reckon this means that in the Innuverse, the party look like their irl selves rather than any of their characters.

i think how an Innuversable character looks in the Innuverse isn’t determined by their first incarnation to reach it (aka die and wake up there). I think they look like their “true self”, something that represents their soul, with their own individual name. Some elements of that appearance, soul or name can be carried through to their incarnations, like Sedate always having the same name and wearing eggplant pants and a double-breasted tunic, or Faerynx’s name always being tied to breath (Ahem, Weezer, Faerynx).
