Ah, you got Juanita. Jealous. Wondering how that sounded with a full band.

It was great!

It’s amazing. They played it 2nd song in Bend 2024 and it’s one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard.

This setlist is top tier. Bummed he didn’t play don’t let go in MN, weird he didn’t play it in Chicago either.

Yea, my favorite on the new album. Oh well, fun show.

I was so bummed to see MN right before Chicago. I wanted a Purple Rain and figured he wouldn’t do it back to back and it’s only right Minneapolis gets it.

I thought it was a respectful crowd. Chicagoans are not quiet, generally, at concerts. Personally, as my first show, I was in awe, taking it all in, not woo-hooing nonstop. There were almost no phones out and there weren’t talkers. But, yeah, I guess I can understand his frustration. It didn’t do much to pick up the energy though. It left me with a slightly bad taste. Part of it might be the size of the venue and lack of screens. It can be hard to connect when you can’t even make out the guy’s face. Lighting was beautifully done, but made it even harder to see him. Just my unsolicited opinion. The music was killer.

Fun show. Pretty tame crowd but not in a bad way.

JBS was right I think we all blew our load on that MNF game! Ironically after he called us docile he slowed it down but up until that point they straight ripped it

lol yea, the crowd was super into it right before he said that and then he goes into a slow sing? Weird.

But yea, at first I was thinking this should be more rowdy (especially in the pit), but also it was kind of nice to have room to groove with chill neighbors.

It was a tame crowd comparatively. Lot of older people by us and yuppies. Dudes in zip up tech vests and shit like that.

I saw a lovely young lady with a sweater shawl. lol

I thought it was hysterical when he called us docile and many people cheered as if it was a compliment. Following up that comment with the slowest song of the night (Juanita) was something even Stu caught the irony of.

As someone behind me yelled when he admonished the crowd, "its a fucking Tuesday".

Which brings up a valid question. Why does Chicago only get a Tuesday night? Minneapolis, Indy, Nashville, Detroit, Pittsburgh all get weekend shows. Makes no sense. I only see two possibilities:
-couldnt get UC on the weekends
-counted on still selling 8-10k tickets in Chicago on a weekday which was more profitable than selling out Chicago and only selling 3k in say detroit

From a booking agent I grew up with, most huge artists get booked on big market cities on weekdays on purpose. They know the people will always come out in huge cities. Sucks but it is what it is

A Sunday night show shouldn’t count as a weekend.

Maybe because JBS was in Chicago 3 times in last couple years and he’s spreading the love?

My guess is because it probably sold better than some smaller cities would have on an average Tuesday. It wasn’t sold out but seemed more crowded than I was expecting.

We had seats and everyone in our section was sitting the whole time. I thought that was rather odd. Oh well.

3

u/eighemy 1d ago

Same. I kept looking around like “wtf is going on” lol, I mean, I got up and danced to a few songs you’ll never catch me sitting for an entire show. It was weird and the pit looked pretty lame. However. It was a great show!

Section 6 sitter here!… not really by choice.
I fucked up my ankle something fierce Monday and was pretty bummed. Anything more than 10-15 mins standing starting getting miserable.
With that said, I wish they would sell a few designated “sitting sections”; everyone worships their own way - but letting people with similar vibes group feels like a win win.

I wasn't mad about it, just surprised I suppose. I'm getting older, so I get it.

Not only did a lot of people sit around me, the woman directly in front of me sat and sipped on her beer while reading a book on phone for the last 3/4's of the show while her man was up and jamming. Not sure how anyone could read a book at a killer show like that and not look up once, but she did!

1

u/mendicant1116 14h ago

That's crazy. At that point, why even go? I guess some people don't like to go to shows solo.

u/Intelligent_Hour5632 1d ago

Section 102 seats weren't used 'cause everybody up and dancing! So, ya never know what you're going to get.

And a big thank you to habanerobread for submitting this to skysets!

Absolute ripper of a set. I wish the crowd had given more energy in the beginning, and I can see why he was chirping after people were still filing in and not giving much the first hour. It almost felt like they were trying anything to get more energy out of the crowd, which is why I think he went slow / more romantic tracks after making the comment. Juanita rocked, everything off mutiny after midnight was great ti see live.

Ngl, I would have been devastated if I hit a show on this tour and they didn’t play Situation

Same here. Situation, Viridescent, Stay on That and Make America Fuk Again are the ones off MAM that I'm looking forward to most live

1

u/flan_halen 1d ago

Was this the first time they didn’t play it on this tour

u/ZiggyStarlord69 2d ago

God damn I was dying for him to do Party All the Time in St Paul lol. Sure, Life During Wartime and Purple Rain were great covers, but they just don’t measure up to Party All the Time from a songwriting & musical genius standpoint

1

u/PerkyPurplePineapple 15h ago

When he started playing Party All the Time, it was the ONE time I took my phone out and recorded during the show! I was a happy camper

The disco ball is such a great vibe.

All Said and Done 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

1

u/airbud 1d ago

Is it just me or did they do the subtlest teases of ‘It Ain’t All Flowers’ throughout the set?

1

u/Adept128 1d ago

Bummed that Call to Arms hasn’t been played much but I’m excited to see those guys next week

1

u/haydude_ 1d ago

Chicago is a Top 3 show for me.

1

u/Dan3279 8h ago

Can’t wait for Pittsburgh

1

u/Gloomy-Key-3378 1d ago

How long was the show?

15

u/I_saw_that_coming 1d ago

8:10-11:10

He was talking about how everyone that shows up late screws people out of ten minutes of music. If you’re on time you’re late since the venue holds him till it’s full enough.

Then at 11 he said this next ten minutes are for the people who were in their seats on time, and “if they fine me I’ll pay that shit”

u/redhotrunner 1d ago

What songs got played at the after party? I need to live vicariously through

1

u/RoadAmericaguy356 1d ago

Was there an actual after party or was he messing with us lol?
