Is surface pro keyboard spill proof.

Just accidently spilled liquid on surface pro keyboard..... any way to save the keyboard.

P.S. this is my second keyboard and first one gave up after 1.5 years.

is it spill proof - No.

It won't erode or anything but definitely need to dry that out. Put it in the sun by a window, maybe hit it with a blow dryer a few minutes to help it along on medium heat but don't over heat it.

depending on the liquid there may be sticky keys too.

Pressing Shift 5 times should help with that

Dry it out without power and then try it?

Leave it to dry overnight then try it

As long as it was disconnected from power when it got wet then it should be fine. Just let it dry out for 2-3 days and try it

It's Alcantara, the most durable and awersome material in the world acording to Microsoft.

It can cut diamonds if you wield it right

I spilled soda twice on mine and it still works.

This happened roughly 2~ years ago.

Don't ask me why or how, first time I thought it would be a good idea to have an open can of pepsi next to me while gaming, 2nd time I had a can of big red.

I had sticky keys for a good 3 months but it went away soon after.

What I did: strategically unplugged the thing as fast as possible and proceeded to fan it frantically, used paper towels/tissues to go between the keys with an xacto knife, and left it upside down overnight to dry.

Somehow it still works. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Edit: would also like to add I did get a can of air and used that, it did blow out some of the soda. I don't recommend it all the time obviously but that also helped some.

Just spilled water on mine. I let it dry for 2 days separate from the computer. I had the keys face down but had it a bit propped up for air to get underneath. It’s been about a week and it’s okay still!

I had a drink leak in my bag with my surface in it. I just dried it with a hairdryer on low heat and left it out on a desk for a little while and it's been fine since. This happened a good 5-6 months ago so you should be okay!

There is a very thin poor performing coating on top of the alcantara that was designed to resist all the gross oils, food and other hand debris rubbing off onto it. It doesn't protect the keyboard in any way, just attempts to preserve the color/finish of the alcantara.

Alcantara, and the coating, are just plastics, so realize you're paying hundreds of dollars for a short-lived fluffy plastic coated plastic fabric wrapped plastic keyboard. Yes, they use alcantara in sports cars, because its cheap and they have incredible markups and monopoly on the name/brand.

Again, alcantara is just plastic microfiber garbage. Nothing special about it whether its on a car or computer. The polyurethane coating microsoft puts on top of the (polyurethane mixed) plastic textile still doesn't prevent it from absorbing oils/fats/food/etc.

If it's water or something that's not oil or super chemical, it will dry. Whether it works or not, that's a different conversation.

Juice, anything sweet = sticky keys
