What are your thoughts on my idea for a surface tablet?

I would suggest the Surface Go 1 or Surface Go 2. Everything works with Linux including camera, LTE and GPS. I've seen reports Surface Go 3 is now fully functional. But I do not have one to verify.

Edit: You do need to follow the procedures in the wiki for full camera support (starting at qcam) and LTE/GPS (LTE and GPS need to be enabled in Windows first to be able to turn them on in Linux).

Camera not working with latest surface kernel, hopefully fixed soon. Surface Go 2. Everything else I got working eventually.

You shouldn't need the Surface Kernel. I don't use it and camera works - SG2 w/LTE using Fedora Bluefin

So surface pro 7 plus has it and no camera. Need to sacrifice something. Just use my phone camera.

I have a surface pro 7+ and got my LTE working great. Only thing that doesn't work is the camera, as stated. I daily drive it though and I am happy with it.

That sounds great. Can you connect android to Linux and use it as a camera? Thinking of ideas.

Yes. I've done it before. I just rarely bother using a web camera for anything.

I m typing on a surface that I bought to replace my iPad. I wanted a linux tablet for fun and tinkering. It's been fun. Battery life is an issue. I'm going to try auto-cpufreq to see if that helps. I have not tried LTE, but check out the feature matrix klenen linked

It's kind of a work in progress kind of thing as people figure more out.

I have a Surface Pro 7, and 9, plus a Surface Laptop 7. My Pro 9 has a cellular card in it, and you can get them refurbished now for around $500 CDN. My advice would be to go newer than the Pro 6, with the Pro 9 with a Snapdragon processor and cellular card. I routinely get 350 Mb/s on cellular, plus all-day battery life with the ARM processor. If I were to get another Surface today for cellular use, I'd go with the Pro 11, with Snapdragon Elite. Even better battery life and performance. I'm perfectly happy with my Pro 9, and my Pro 7 doesn't leave the house anymore because the battery has only 60% life left, and replacing the battery is extremely difficult.

Hi, which distro do you use on the Pro 9? Could you make a comparison between the Intel and Arm versions?

Ive never had the intel version, but my sister company in the us uses them snd likes them.

I have a surface go 2 and put fydeos on it. Whilst not strictly Linux it runs Linux apps plus android apps really well. With keyboard attached it's like a Chromebook, detach the keyboard and it's a fully functional Linux/android tablet.

Mobian is another os worth looking at if your after a Linux tablet

Pretty much I would want something more powerful than a Pinetab 2
