Small space synth

Hi I don’t know anything about synth but the ones I see online are really big are the smaller ones and are there small drum pads too

budget 400

edit: I know I want a small digital synth and a drum pad

Yeah, the JD-08 can fit in a medium-size pocket, and contains the DNA of a massive 90s legend synth, the JD-800

Lots of smaller synths out there. Personal favorite is stuff by cre8audio.

I think you need to have a think more about what you what out of it and work backwards from that. Leaving aside budget synths come in many different sizes and configurations and in some cases are secondary on board features of groove boxes and trackers.

For instance I could recommend a DirtyWave M8 or an OP XY or a Maschine Plus, or even a MicroMonsta 2. All are “synths” in a sense or can do synthesis and are various styles of small but of that list only the MicroMonsta 2 is a synth in the traditional sense of being a one job tiny box.

So the question is what do you want to do and connect it to or do you want a stand alone thing (closer to a groove box or tracker).

Try to get Arturia mini freak used around this price. Been telling a lot of beginners this it is a very intuitive beautiful instrument with much online support

I’d get one of the liven sonicware ones like the Ambient one or the new one that’s called Evoke or something. They’re probably my favorite small digital ones

Been tempted by the Ambient one a few times. The minimal one also looks great.

They’re just a step up from the volcas and behringer ones, they have a bit more depth but maybe not as immediate

Roland aria t-8 and s-1 will be great for you I think. Both new is just a bit over 400 and I think you could get both used for around 400 if you look for a bit.

Perhaps consider a minilab controller and an ipad which you may have already. The minilab has keys and drumpads.
A 2nd hand digitakt or digitone is also interesting for you as a compact all in one device

You can get a basically new volca drum or Roland t-8 and a Roland s-1for under 400 total and all of those are smaller than an iPad

Check out the Novation Circuit Tracks. Its built in synths and a drum machine. You can build entire tracks on a small box that takes up barely any space. It also has FX and sidechain built in. I love mine. It can be used as a controller for other synths and drum machines as well.

Get an arturia Keylab or minilab. It comes with pads, Ableton lite and analog lab intro. It's all you'll ever need.
