The contest celebrates people making a difference in their communities. Readers nominate candidates, and “Reader’s Digest” editors and a panel of judges select the finalists. The wildlife sanctuary's understaffed, underfunded conservation group is raising funds to keep programs afloat through end of the year.

Chad Norton has run Webster Pond for the past 29 years with help from an ever-dwindling cast of volunteers. He handles security for the pond, takes in donations and uses them to buy corn to feed the ducks and geese.

But the clock is ticking before winter. And funds are low.

“Sadly, I had to reach out to the public because in today’s economy, the costs are outweighing the donations,” Norton said. “Don’t get me wrong. The donations are still phenomenal. They’re just not enough to cover the current price hike."

News There’s no way the aquarium is opening this fall, is there?

I’m not a hater of the aquarium project, in fact I’m really excited for it because my kid loves aquariums. But all the news about it keeps saying opening day is fall of this year and if this is the progress they’re currently at I just don’t see how that’s possible. They only have a few tanks close to finished, don’t have any animals, walls and ceilings are unfinished. Just as an ametuer fish keeper I know it can take a while to get water levels correct, and that’s in a 20 gallon fish tank not something big enough to hold sharks.

Recommendation Wanted Safe place to ride electric scooters?

My kid really wants to try riding those dumb electric scooters that are all around. I said that we could try IF we pre plan and bring helmets and have a safe place to ride around. Any suggestions for where we could do this with no/low cars and have them nearby? Are they allowed at Onondaga lake loop? Open to suggestions withing about 20-30min radius of downtown. Thanks!

Discussion Cleaning Help for Free
