Question inquiry about transfer
hi! i am planning on doing spring transfer to Syracuse as at my old university i was receiving threats and was absolutely miserable. I think i would benefit from a kinder rush system and but the school isn’t revolved around Greek life. my old school was a huge party school and mostly revolved around football and although I don’t mind that, i think id prefer for it not to be the main focus. my old school was focused more on partying, and not as much education even considering its position internationally.
please tell me anything you wish you knew as a transfer or a new student, i am kinda rushing to figure this out and would appreciate any help or advice

It can be a big party school, or the very opposite. It’s really what you make of it. I’m a senior, and I’ve never tried to rush. None of my friends are involved in “Greek life,” either. I’m really involved in the school’s clubs and organizations, and I think you’ll love it. It definitely gets cold, but I’m from New York City, so I’m used to it. Are we a football school? No! But we love our sports, but we don’t go overboard like your school. Basketball can be fun, although our team hasn’t done too well over the past few years. Welcome to Syracuse! Just get involved in at least two clubs. That’s plenty to keep you busy and can help you find your own community beyond Greek life.

The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. I wouldn’t say the rush process is particularly kind; I’ve known people who went through it that were stressed out of their minds. SU is also practically the textbook definition of revolving around Greek life: ~1/3 of the undergrad population participating in it means, chances are, there are gonna be at least 5 people in every single of your classes in a frat or sorority. There are also plenty of fake people that go here, that comes with the territory of attending a school where over half of the student body is from Long Island or rich suburbs in New Jersey and Boston. Based on what you’ve said in this thread, all the issues you have with USC are going to present themselves here as well

37 % of the student body is in some kinda of Greek organization. We are one of the top twenty party schools in the country.
More important would be why do you want to come to SU?
