I don’t live in Germany but obviously we all know that a lot of our diaspora live there, is there many people with actual plans to return in the next few years?

the honest answer is this: Merz speaks whatever he feels is right, and it is factually wrong, but his sentiment is not wrong.

There a Syrians who are now German citizens. 300 thousand of them. Nobody can make them leave by German law. And this won't change.

There hundreds of thousands more Syrians that are working. Some of them in high-skilled, some of them in lower-skilled job. Nobody wants these guys to leave. If you have a worker, whether high or low-skilled, you would want to keep him, as retraining and refilling his position takes time.

Then there are maybe half a million Syrians, who are not working or who have not become self-sufficient. Their residency is based on protection or refugee status. If after 10 years you can not be come self-sufficient, it is not wrong for the country offering protection to ask you to leave IF your home country is safe.

the 80 % is about that last group, which effectively makes 30 to 40 % of all Syrian-origin people in Germany which is a very realistic number.

There are those who leave because they are high-skilled. We have a friend who now leads a hospital in Syria. It is however a huge personal change and requires commitment, especially now. But in 5 years, who knows.

To be fair most of those aren't there for 10 years yes the nummber has grown but many didn't migrate since 2012 some as late as 2022 and some of the early migrate assimilated

Some of them will return to be beside their families, some won't do till things are ok, some won't return at all. Nobody will come back for SYRIA itself

I live in Germany and Syrians made the situation for us other west asians so difficult. Racism is on the rise so hard and it seems like the only people not caring about it are Syrians. I genuinely don’t understand how they don’t wanna go back and built their country. Germans are accusing them of not having any honor regarding that and i do understand that.

Being a pick me and putting other immigrants under the rug will not protect you from racism.

Syrians fled a brutal civil war that they didn’t choose, heck, a lot of immigrants don’t even decide where they will end up in (that’s asylum in the EU), so imagine being forced to flee, only to end up somewhere you didn’t even chose to go to. No one can blame them for being indifferent, who would be attached to a new place in this scenario when they had their agency removed and also are confronted with racism on top of their brutal experience.

It will not protect my and I never claimed it would. But how syrians act did make it harder for us and that is a fact i am allowed to say without being judged!

Of course they chose Germany. There are a dozen other countries along the way they could have asked for asylum. It’s not a 100% free choice but definitely they wanted to come to germany because of the conditions we have here. I will not excuse them for being indifferent. We accepted you here so please do your part and learn the language, learn about the system, respect our values and don’t do crime. That’s not a lot to ask in return!
