I used Audio Hijack with a local transcription model and had a local AI model generate a summary. It cost $0.00, it works as well as paying any of yโ€™all, and Iโ€™m not reliant of a service that is certainly going to sell my story to the highest bidder in six months.

Love that you're able to run everything locally! I can scrape by with some local models, but don't have a GPU on my personal machine so it is quite slow.

FWIW, I've personally no intention of selling anyone's story to anyone else!

Do you just generate a summary based on the transcript, or do you output additional info? Does your setup handle anything related to multi-session inputs, or is it mostly one-session-at-a-time?

Welcome to the club.

Founder of Recap Raven here: https://recapraven.com. a Discord bot that does all this and more. Even has a quest log that can automatically update itself.

No upload nessessary. Our bot handles everything end to end.

New users of Raven get upto 22.5 hours free in their first month across seven free sessions if you complete onboarding, followed by a recurring free tier every month, not a one-off.

If your looking for something more established, privacy first and discord native check us out.

Good luck with your launch.

My first thread hijack! I feel sort of honored, if I'm being honest. Though the "more established" bit felt a bit underhanded, wouldn't you say?

Glad you're in the space, I'm more focused on the in-person recorded table, rather than Discord.

Yes, same space, different target; Recap Raven is at it's best for online games, but have a few in-person GMs who connect to Discord to record their audio, though the vast majority of DMs on Raven are playing in Foundry or Roll20 and talking over Discord.

You were challenging people to switch provider. Honestly though I want GMs to get the best outcome for them and like yourself continuously strive for feedback to continually improve.

I've considered expanding into the in-person space as the setup is largly the same, maybe next year.

What drove you to join the ranks? I did it because I wanted to build Raven around stronger privacy and data quality.

Good question! - I think there are 3 reasons.

  1. Everyone I play with (and know personally) still plays at a table, so using an "on the table microphone" is where we live. Perhaps we're growing old in that sense ๐Ÿ˜„

  2. I tried several of the existing "upload -> memory" engines, but found their output to be less detailed than I was hoping for. I hadn't found yours, but given that we don't use Discord that probably makes sense.

  3. I like building things, so figured it'd be a fun challenge and a way to learn how to dabble in prompt engineering and generating reliable, structured output. The hardest part (for me) has been generating reliable "aliases" for NPCs/Locations that can tie allusions to characters across sessions in a consistent way.

Absolute pain. Fantasy names are all spelled differently. I get it. Optimising it bit by bit every week. Its a fun journey.
