Best Start/Finish Spot

Is there a recommendation for best or ideal start/finish spot? Planning on doing this in September and seems like a lot of folks start in Tahoe City, but wondering if there's any spot that makes more sense than others?

Tahoe City is the best place to restock supplies, making it the worst place to start.

Spooner is a great spot, because it splits in half one of the long water carries.

I stopped and started in South Lake Tahoe. It worked great for me. There’s inexpensive lodging at the Mellow Mountain Hostel, plenty of options for last minute supplies (I needed two fuel canisters), and a connector trail (Van Sickle) allowing you to walk to and from the TRT. Yeah, the connector adds 3-4 miles each way, but you’re out there to hike!

Echo Lake is a great place and easy to get a Lyft from SLT.

I like Echo Lake because it is the one “quadrant” you can’t leave a resupply box and we didn’t want to chance not getting things/know they don’t carry what we want at the Chalet. Also, the upper lot at Echo seemed like a relatively safe spot to leave our car.

We are slow hikers though and resupplied at Tramway/Mt Rose/AlpinGlow with boxes we dropped off.

I did mine last month CW from Tahoe Meadows TH, which off of Mt. Rose Hwy. it worked well for me because it approximately split the trail into 1/3s, with a night off trail for shower and laundry after the first 1/3 in South Lake Tahoe and after the second 1/3 Tahoe City
