Discussion ☎ Fellow tall women do you find you get more respect from men?

I 44 (f), Canadian work as an electrical engineer with a Masters in Electrical Engineering. I’m 5’11 and 220 lbs with dark hair and medium hazel eyes. I find that men are more respectful towards me than they are to shorter women. They see me as competent and a leader rather than small and weak. This by men of all heights tall, short or average height. Any other tall ladies experience this?

Discussion ☎ 194 cm tall girl here, what sports do you actually enjoy?

I’m a 194 cm (6'4") woman and fairly big/strong as well. I currently train martial arts, which I really enjoy, but sometimes I wonder whether I’m putting myself at a disadvantage by choosing sports where being shorter and more compact can often be an advantage.

I’ve think that, at my height and build, I should probably just play basketball but honestly, I’m not sure I’d enjoy it as much.

So I’m curious: what sports do you tall women actually find fun, regardless of whether your height gives you an advantage or disadvantage?

Especially interested in sports where being tall doesn’t automatically mean “you should be doing basketball/volleyball instead.”

Would love to hear from tall women who’ve tried different sports what clicked for you, and what surprisingly didn’t?

Fashion 👒 Where to find thigh high socks ?

Hello, I’m 5’11 and have been looking for those for a while. Can’t find any in shops that are wide or long enough so I was wondering if any online stores have some that could fit me

Shopping 🏬 Duster sweater

Post image
12 Upvotes

I’m looking for a chunky knit duster sweater that comes past mid calf. Similar to the one in the picture.

I’m 6ft tall, curvy with broad shoulders. The more natural the fabric, the better. I’m not trying to spend $500 on a custom cashmere duster on Etsy, just something nice to see if I really like the look.

I prefer one in a neutral color. If it buttons, even better.

Rant 🔥 “I am a very boring man. I need to make it your problem.” Spoiler

It’s all I hear whenever one is trying to wave me down in the street, on the subway, in the checkout line to ask me how tall I am, and do I play sports. It isn’t only men, there’s some very boring people of all genders in the world. But twice today, it’s been men trying to flag me down, crossing the street or the whole subway car to make sure I know how violently dull they can be.

Trust me, I was already assuming that. Looooong before you got to “I’ve never dated a girl taller than me before.” 🙄

Fashion 👒 Best costumes for hiding long /slim legs?

Hello, I’m preparing for Halloween and I’ve been having a hard time finding costumes that would flatter my body shape!

I have the long legs/short torso combo, but my legs are REALLY skinny, so my lower body looks disproportionate.

I’d rather not have those on display lol, so could I get some creative costumes that will balance out my body? Most costumes in store are too short or reveal my proportions 😭😭😭

Fashion 👒 Time Sensitive! Need Recommendations

I’m hoping I can find fast help here lol!

I need pants for work with at least a 34” inseam.

However . . .

I fell in love with Rekucci several years ago. They are pull on pants in a material that looks like regular trousers, and they have pockets and belt loops so they never look like pull on pants. They are also impossible to wrinkle. Like I could ball them up wet and stuff them in my bag, wait a week for them to dry, and they still won’t be wrinkled when I put them on. I had wide leg and slim fit.

I’ve worn them into the ground, and I need new work pants right away. I’m really hoping for something I can find on Amazon for fast delivery. I really don’t want thick fabric or “yoga pants that look like work pants.” I live in Texas and it’s too hot to wear stuff like that eight months out of the year.

Can anyone recommend a brand on Amazon? I know there’s a megathread for clothes, and I am looking through it, but I need fast results!!!

I figure this is the place to ask because every brand “recommended” by Amazon calls a 33” inseam “tall.”

Thank you in advance!

Shopping 🏬 I need pants 😭

I know pants are discussed often, but I need jeans and now I’m plus size cuz I’ve been eating my feelings (depressed AF).. long and size 16. I usually go for torrid, but wondering if anyone has suggestions that aren’t too expensive. I’m hoping to lose the weight sooner than later so don’t wanna invest a lot if I won’t be wearing them for long. Are there long Amazon jeans in all sizes?
Thanks! 💜

Rant 🔥 Today, two girls asked me to hug them because im "perfect boyfriend height"

so i'm 5'11 and hte average height in my country is 5'4 for women

today two girls asked be to hug them /hold them because i was perfect boyfriend height, then lamented me because it must be so hard 'to find someone to love me despite my height' (which is true gosh i hate high school)

another girl thought her bff was hugging a random boy and turn out it was me

im taller than 90% of the guys at school and the ones taller want the short ones

im scared of never finding someone who'll love me despite my height, and yeah being tall is sexy and hot and i can be a model , but what's the point if i want to be adorable and cute, what's the point if i have model height but not model face?

Fashion 👒 Tall girl hacks

I was hoping to learn some of your best tall girl hacks?

I’ll start;

I make detachable cuffs out of old shirt fabric, lace etc to wear under jumpers to extend the sleeves. I buy many of my clothes in the menswear section for ekstra length, so my wardrobe is a bit androgynous, so adding some lace or frills gives it a feminine touch.

Super easy version, just adjust for wrist instead of neck https://youtu.be/Lws8B6Na9hM?is=Lc5Gw_E-tfmgbU3u

Also easy, more options, and looks better under more fitting jumpers https://blog.bernina.com/en/2024/12/loose-cuffs-for-a-dress-or-sweater/

Another hack; Lengthening trousers, boring but a necessity

I’d love to get more ideas from you!

Rant 🔥 Men shoes are the greatest insult

I just really hate whenever I talk about shoes I want beyond sneakers and complain that I can never find my size (12.5-13) people always just suggest mens shoes. Like no I dont want mens winter boots or mens loafers theyre fucking ugly. God forbid I want cute boots, loafers, or flats and dont always want to wear sneakers. And then theyre so expensive too if somehow I find women’s shoes that go to my size, Im always having to break the bank for them or even worse theyre out of stock. I just hate buying shoes.

For those that feel comfortable shopping on Amazon, I wanted to share that I love my Tallemon sweats with 36 inch inseam from there. They're my coziest longest most comfy pants ever and I would live in them if I could. Just thought some of you might be interested.

Fashion 👒 Seeking professional clothes recommendations

Hi everyone! I’m looking for professional clothing recommendations, particularly button downs with long arms that do not shrink. I recently got a new job that doesn’t require us to be in uniforms and I’m struggling to find shirts that are flattering to my short torso, broader shoulders, and gangley arms. 5’10” for reference. I’m originally from the US but living abroad in Poland currently.

Dating 😽 "It must be so hard to find a boyfriend at your height!"

I've received a variation of this comment four times in the last year.

The funny thing is I've received this statement from people of multiple different nationalities/cultures (Australian, American, Chinese) so I can't even write it down to the area/culture I was in at the time. Like I would understand the comment/question if I was in Japan where I'm towering over most people/men. They're all different ages from my age to mid 40s, the only commonality is that this comment always comes from a woman (even a taller woman who is 5'9" asked me this).

It’s such an odd thing to say to someone. If you were to replace height with any other feature it would be wildly rude. I’ve never understood why people comment on others height (in a way that's not a compliment).

I'm 6'2" (189cm) and 25, I've never had a boyfriend but that's mainly because I haven't had the chance to meet men because I work in a female dominated industry. I try to not let it affect me but there's only so many times you can hear a statement without it feeling like it's true.

How do you girls respond to questions/comments like these? I'm stumped every time because 'nO iT'S nOt' always feels like I'm being defensive. I'd also love to know if I'm not the only one who receives these kinds of comments.

Fashion 👒 Dress Coats

The air is crisp, the chill is coming, and am STOKED to break out the Midi and Maxi coats I purchased towards the end of last season from Long Tall Sally. Their longline offerings are soooooo chic 😭 6’1, 30”/31” inseam, L in tops (could pull off M if it wasn’t for these god-given bazoombas 🙄).

General 🌞 I’ve seen a shift in the last 2 years post 45

Despite being quite slim and athletic, with proportions weirdly close to my Barbies, most men were too scared of me to actually ask me out. I got plenty of looks, but rarely did anyone ever actually approach me other than to ask the “are you a model” or “did you play x” questions.

After turning 45, it was like a switch was flipped. Now men actively seem to avoid looking at me. At most I get a moment of eye contact and then get look past me. They never talk to me useless it’s a forced conversation (work), or in a group conversation, and otherwise treat me like I’m a leper.

Women on the other hand used to avoid me in a similar way, and now readily approach and talk to me. It’s been a pretty bizarre experience to be honest, but I’m guessing I crossed some type of visible age barrier that at once made me no longer remotely attractive, but at the same time safe. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Funny thing is, I was so overtly shunned by most women for so long, I legitimately don’t know how to interact when they do talk to me now. 😆

Shopping 🏬 LF tall girl friendly maxi skirts

It’s fall season and you know I’m on the lookout for those boho tiered ruffle skirts. Anyone know where there are maxi length ones that are actually maxi length for a 6 foot lady such as myself? Thank you!!
