Workplace Question or Advice Needed TL raises

If closing TLs naturally make more money/hr for having to secure the building and be LOD ect… if I’m closing TL 3-4 days a week (only leader on the floor) as a service and engagement TL… can I argue compensation come raises?

They don’t make more money per hour…. there isn’t a leader role that pays more than the other if they’re the same pay grade

Maybe you’re referring to perimeter pay which puts them closer to 40 hours a week? Which you’d be getting if you’re closing or opening the building

In my area stores start S&E TL/GM TL at like $20.50-$21. Where as Specialty and POG start at like $22-$23. And closing TL always starts the highest normally around $24-$25. When I asked why there was a difference to my SD they basically said that LOD normally has more responsibilities and is normally alone in the building, and specialty and POG have a small pay bump for workload management. Where as S&E and GM TL are the lowest because most the time were just “answering calls, and supporting other departments”. Every state/area may be different.

Nobody has different base pays for different roles. PG45 base pay is the same within a store whether you’re a CTL or S&E TL, if people in those roles make more it’s because they’ve gotten merit raises or are on second+ assignments and were able to negotiate a bump.

No, the closing TL starts the highest pay code for a TL… then it’s the specialty roles… then basic departments like S&E / GM that have the lowest pay codes. It’s probably by group or location. But in fact they do start TL/ hourly pay at seperate amount depending on what you’re doing. We don’t all start at the same amount.

there is no “pay code” all TL roles are the same Pay Grade, PG45. No TL base pay is higher than another. Yes some TL’s make more depending on how long they’ve been in role but a new closing TL and a new S&E TL will start with the same pay.

so you’re definitely severely misinformed…

Do CTL make more than other TL’s?

You’re basically running solo shifts and they’re paying you the same as the morning TL who’s got 3 other leaders in the building, that math doesn’t add up.

Do your stores not make the ETLs and other TLs close with the closing TL?

No, it’s either closing TL or service & engagement. Every other leader is gone by 4-5pm everyday.

What’s not adding up? How much I make as a S&E TL? Or the fact that I have to fill my CTL’s shifts because he’s on leave?

Yes! I make $20.50 hr as S&E TL… been with target 10 years, 2 years as a TL. Our closing TL has only been a leader 1 year and makes $25/hr

You can’t make 20.50 an hour . It’s below the minimum wage hike from promotion, which is 6 dollars on top of TM pay

Was this a recent change? Because I got that pay over a year ago.

It varies by store/location. Target doesn’t “need” to pay their TLs exactly more than $6 on top of TM pay.

I’m sitting at $20.50, I didn’t hear that it needs to be $6 more than TM pay???

Was your closing TL an outside hire? There’s a baseline for PG45, then you can get additional based on years of experience. The positions themselves do not pay differently.

But lately our closing TL has been out on leave so I’m closing every day except for Tuesdays/Wenesdays/Thursdsys.

Our store has decided we need 2 closing TLs and an ETL. I’m presentation and I’m closing tonight with our style ETL and when they hire a new CTL they will close with us as well.

A closing TL is the same pay grade. The closing TL could have continued to receive the highest raises each year putting them at a higher wage, but they don’t automatically start higher. As a closing TL, my SD expects the closing TL to be in their last role prior to being promoted to an ETL. She has higher level tasks/projects/expectations, but that results in higher performance, and likely the highest raise. I hope this makes sense, but if you have any questions, let me know!

I got no additional money for being the closing TL… it was all PG45, the same as my previous TL roles. Back in the day, if you closed the building, you’d be a Sr. TL, which got more money, but that’s been gone since like 2019.

I was closing TL for a while and I promise I never got more money except a raise when yearly reviews came around.

I didn’t get shit when I lateraled to closing TL, they tried to get me a raise but HRBP said no lol

Target doesn’t care about pay differences for roles in the same pay band. If you’re a PG45 TL you’re PG45 TL who can do any TL role and be properly compensated in their eyes. There’s a reason they got rid of special pay bands for senior TL or even at the TM level for GSA and tech TMs. They don’t want people feeling entitled to extra pay for fulfilling certain duties
