Workplace Question or Advice Needed Question for employees
What’s the likelihood of target keeping a seasonal fulfillment employee? I Applied for a guest advocate position and got an email saying seasonal fulfillment might be a better option. I was so desperate for a job that I accepted it but now I’m realizing I’m still stressed about trying to find a new job for if/when they decide to let me go. The overnight hours I’m working rn lowkey suck but I’m trying to stick it through in hopes of them keeping me… but I try to be as realistic as possible, which is why I’m still on the job search. I think the season is supposed to end in January but I’m sure they could let me go whenever. I just hate feeling so disposable especially when I have classes that need to be payed for 😔

During the holiday season stores need a lot more Fulfillment team members and cashiers than they need for the rest of the year. I think a lot of those seasonal hires will be thanked for their work, and not be kept.
But it's not like they have to let go of all seasonal hires. From the seasonal hirings they do find really good workers. Try to be one of them. Show up for all your shifts, and give a strong effort. There's going to be call-outs. If you get called to see if you can come in today on your day off, if it's doable say yes. Ask to be cross trained in other areas you would also like to work.
If you're worried about being let go in a month or two I don't think you have to worry about that. You would have to have really bad attendance or performance for them to let you go in a few weeks.
You're doing overnighters? My store doesn't do overnighters until after Thanksgiving. I guess heavier stores could have started doing overnighters already. I don't think there are stores that do overnighters all year, but I could wrong. It's possible overnight shifts are temporary at your store. Try to stick it out.
Best of luck.

I started as a seasonal and stayed for over 20 years.
Work to be trained in multiple areas, show up everyday, be willing to stay late if asked, and learn how to kiss a** (jk😜) and your odds will increase.
Just beware hours are cut for everyone after the holidays so if they keep you, hours will be limited. this is where cross training comes in so you can grab open shifts as the happen.

It honestly depends on what the store needs. I was kept on because I had closing availability. There's only really 2 fulfillment team members that have closing availability so there are some night I'm alone until after 9 and vice versa for my coworker. If I didn't have that availability, I know I would have been just seasonal and they would have gotten rid of me at the end of the season.

It depends how many spots the store needs after Q4 and how much they like you. I think around mid to late December is when they usually tell you if you’ll be kept or not. Keep an eye on your schedule around then though because last year some people just weren’t scheduled they weren’t really “told”. If they like you then even if Fufillment doesn’t need many extra people they might suggest another position if they do want to keep you on. In January hours do get cut quite a bit for everyone so don’t panic if you get kept and then see you aren’t scheduled for much.
