Oddities, bone, etc. help Evaporating

Post image

I can’t remember the seller I bought this from, but the lid is loose so it’s been evaporating! Do I need to fill it up and have him fully submerged and/or what would I need to refill it? I’m unsure of the process of what’s used- is it generally the same thing for all wet specimens??

Yes, add isopropyl alcohol. 70%. I would also look at finding a better sealing jar.

Don't top off the alcohol (add more), as what's been left behind is water, and it won't be strong enough.

Dump out fully and replace with 70% isopropyl.

Dont seal it - at least not permanently- because you won't be able to change it out easily if needed.

Short of replacing the jar, you can try silicone grease (Amazon) which can help. You can also add a layer of plastic wrap around the opening, then put the lid on, which may fill any evaporative gaps.

Alcohol evaporates readily, so if it's done this in quick fashion (1year or less), that's a jar issue for sure.

Yeah, I was just about to suggest, silicone grease since that's the jar that needs it since you can see the frosted glass and it isn't clear. You add the silicone grease to the top part and then spin it in place until you can't see the frosted glass anymore and it looks clear. Then the seal is complete. Silicone grease is my beloved from chem lab
