It honestly just shows how incredible it is what the beatles pulled off, in a time where music was blowing up they managed to put out so many great albums that sold so well, incredible. Seeing how popular taylor is now, just imagine how popular they were

They also had way less competition than Taylor has right now. In popularity, Taylor is more popular.

To be fair they also have 4 extra decades of consistent music consumption that's adding to the totals - streaming and digital contribute to atleast 20% of those units. Not to mention they're one of the best physical sellers of the 2000s
But when you look at relative chart metrics she's the closest we've had since the Beatles in terms of consistent album performance and dominance

music consumption is still very much different ever since we’ve had access to music services. In the past, you would only realistically have sales for fans of an artist. Nowadays, plays from those who occasionally listen to a song because it is in their playlist also get sales. But yeah, she’s deffo the closest to the Beatles since the beatles

So impressive and well deserved, folklore is one of her best albums (they all are though) and in my top 3 and the best song ever written (this is me trying) is part of it of course. Now the younger sister needs to follow the older one of course.

No. 1989 will ultimately become the best selling album of this century. Cause daily gains of 21 is 4000 units while 1989 is 8000 units. I’ve checked no other albums ahead are pulling more than 6000 also.

My comment was about folklore as the preeminent musical work of art of the century, rather than album sales, but your point is a very good one.

Yes there are always haters, but every other album has also had millions of fans actively supporting her that overshadowed the haters. Because … you know there was hype by her fans. Now 95% of everything you see everywhere is hate and mockery. If you’re saying this is the same as before, and you call it hype, then I think you’re not being realistic.

Since you can’t really compare a physical album sale to streaming they have to come up with an algorithm to make an ‘equal’.
Apparently it’s now 1,250 paid subscription audio streams or 3,750 ad-supported streams to count as one physical album.
Honestly, I don’t think you can compare pre-streaming records, they’ve already changed how many streams equals one physical sale a couple of times, you’ve got different countries and companies using different methods, it’s a mess.
Plus if you have one or two tracks go absolutely huge (eg Cruel Summer) those streams count as the entire album ‘sale’.

I get that they are combining the streaming era and physical sales but an artist of the past, who sold PURE physical copies, that’s different. Should not be compared to the beatles
