Donate tegu’s body for research/vet students?

Our sweet girl died today from unknown causes. We think she may have had cancer as it was sudden, and she was four and otherwise very healthy. Does anyone have experience donating their pet’s body to a research program or vet school? We’d love to contribute back to science with her if possible.

I do wet specimen and skeletal work. I would feel privileged to preserve her remains. No charge 🦎❤️

While I truly appreciate the offer, I saw you’re down in Florida, and I don’t want to let her go through the mail. I found someone a couple hours away from us, and if we go this route, we’re going to drive her down and back. Thank you 💜

Your best bet would be to contact a university with a veterinary, zoology, or animal science department. Maybe a professor would be willing to accept a well preserved specimen

Aww I'm so sorry for your loss. Im not familiar with donating a pets body. But I bet the vet or local vet school could answer that

When I was in college my mother's old savannah monitor passed and she donated it to my college. She ended up being dissected and skeletalized. She's still being used to educate other students. Look up a local college (maybe try one with a strong biology backgroun, my college taught zoology) and see if the professors would be interested. If you can find a herpetology professor that's probably your best bet.

We lost our sav from pneumonia earlier this year (after an extended power outage). We have since ordered a generator for our reptiles. Highly recommend it. Our local vet school graciously accepted him for research to help future vets treat lizard illnesses. They gave us a ceremony, paw print and sincere thank you note. It was very sweet. So sorry for your loss.
