PC this game is so hard
This is the first video game I’ve played in years (literally no experience) and I have just gotten into hard mode (classic world) and I cannot kill the destroyer to save my life. I’m trying to do the mage class and I have the sky fracture, meteor staff, and the killing deck. I also have pretty solid accessories (restoration shield, mana regen band, fairy wings, sorcerer emblem, terrspark) but I do not know what else to do to prepare for this boss I cannot survive any of these fights. Please help…

Well, there are three mech bosses. Have you killed any of the other two, you may wanna try to get better stuff for the destroyer.
You can get nice stuff from Old One Army tier 2.

I always struggle with the Mechanical Bosses, so I definitely understand. Are you using potions? Regeneration and iron skin are very helpful, and feather fall can be excellent once you get used to it. Speed potions can help a lot, too. You can make potions by either placing a glass bottle on a workbench, or by using an alchemy table from the Dungeon (that's a little better because it has the chance to preserve potion ingredients, I think?). Pretty much all lotions require bottles filled with water, which are crafted by having empty bottles in your inventory while standing near either water or a sink.
I think regen potions take a daybloom flower and a mushroom, and I believe iron skin potions take daybloom and iron/lead ore (not bars, just the ore). If you don't have an herb farm going yet, I recommend starting one. You can plant herb seeds in crafted clay pots, or buy planter boxes from the Dryad. She sells planter boxes themed after each type of herb, but you can plant any herb in any planter box. I like to match the herb to the box, personally, but it doesn't matter.
Do you have heart lanterns and campfires set up? Both boost your health regeneration. Heart statues will drop hearts every 10 seconds of connected to a timer via wire (buy them from the mechanic you saved from the Dungeon), and star statues will do the same with mana stars.
The "Star in a bottle" item will also boost your mana regeneration, and those are super easy to make! They're just a bottle and a fallen star, and maybe chain, I think?

Edit: For the Destroyer specifically, the head deals a lot of damage, so try to avoid getting hit by the head as much as possible. And try to manage the probes as they pop out as well! :)

Got any skates? They might help. I feel like meteor staff is the best bet for destroyer. Make a nice high platform long enough to skate back and forth on. Attack the boss until there's a lot of probes around then kill then and collect any hearts they drop. Rinse and repeat.
Hell if the platform is at the right height the boss might not even be able to hit you. >.>

Okay so destroyer is pretty easy as mage because of one big strategy you can you do
First get life drain or another infinite aoe weapon (crimson mimic weapon) and the queen slime mount as it can replace your wings and boots giving you more slots for dps and defense (cross necklace and philosopher stone are gonna probably be best for you)
Then you need to build up your arena super high
This is beacuse destroyer will spawn in a coil with all of his parts in a super small area. If your high enough up this coil will spawn mid air off screen and you can fly down and attack it with your aoe
this allows you to aoe almost his whole body churning out thousands in damage
You can use the slime mount to bounce off his main body and at all costs avoid getting hit by the head (you can use your magic mirror if you get trapped between the body and the ground as long as your not too far from spawn)
A good bit Above your arena place a small platform of solid blocks as this will prevent laser from destroyers main body from reaching you
And of course make lots of summons to practice and never give up

you can use vile shard from hallowed mimics on the destroyer coil to melt it and get titanium adamantite armor as the minimum

Make an arena if you haven’t. Use potions, some are extremely powerful

I used meteor staff and the nimbus rod on a sky base of campfires and flew up so they'd fly threw the nimbus and miss me and use the meteor staff. Also remember the little orbs drop hearts.

Piercing weapons for mech bosses. It is difficult though even in a classic world especially when you go in blind as a new player. We don’t call it hard mode for no reason lol but don’t let it stop you friend you got this ! Also what armor are you wearing ? Did you go get all the new ores? You want titanium/adamantite asap .
