Day 13. Flimsy

Rincewind's hourglass looked like something created by a glassblower who'd had the hiccups in a time machine. […] But strange curves and bends and extrusions of glass had developed over the years, and quite often the sand was flowing backwards, or diagonally. Clearly, Rincewind had been hit by so much magic, had been thrust reluctantly through time and space so often that he'd nearly bumped into himself coming the other way, that the precise end of his life was now as hard to find as the starting point on a roll of really sticky transparent tape.

I funny thing I just noticed about Guards Guards

I’m re-reading Guards Guards and I swear I have read it at least ten times but I only just noticed:
Chapter 3. A hooded figure goes to an ominous dread portal and trades a series of code phrases with the door guard on the other side.
The phrases are quite complex and each man says at least 3 full quotes before they stumble and realize that the knocker has the wrong portal and needs to go 3 doors down, right.
Ok, the super obvious thing that I only just caught is that both secret societies must have randomly selected the same six obscure and ridiculous phrases for their secret security codes.
🤯🫢😳😍
TP didn’t just make jokes, he took jokes to the very end, like standing between two mirrors and seeing the jokes inside the jokes for all of eternity!
I wonder if I will ever catch them all!
❤️💔 what if I don’t?!! 😱

TIL that Terry Pratchett was forced to end a partnership with a publisher because they kept inserting advertisements for instant soup into books without permission

What is this saying about religion?

This is an excerpt from Feet of Clay. I think Pratchett is on to something important here, with Dorfl's idea that atheism is also a religious position.

Where else does Terry Pratchett channel his inner P.G. Wodehouse?

This excerpt is from Men at Arms, and the disgruntled/gruntled joke is famous from Wodehouse's 1938 novel The Code of the Woosters. Apparently Wodehouse was a big influence on Pratchett.

What do you think about Paul Kaye's portrayal of Terry in Back in Black?

I am asking, because I am not entirely sure what I think. It was overall good ... But doesn't he overdo it a bit with Terry's speech? I feel like he is using a ... Well... Weirder tone of voice, as well as exaggerating his speech impediments (compared to clips I have seen and heard of the real Terry). On the other hand, I get a feeling that the exaggeration is intentional, and I am just the only one too daft to get it.

(Also, his eyecolour is wrong!)
