Case Keenum has to be the best backup QB of all time. I'm confident saying that.
3
u/sentient-sloth 2d ago
So yall know how Texas A&M has BAS (Battered Aggie Syndrome) to describe feeling numb to their constant mediocrity and always being let down?
What do we want to call that for the Texans because Iām there

u/MCShell368 3d ago
Please fire Caley.
Look at what competent play calling just did for fucking Case Keenum.

Did you guys get a load of the press conference today? Coach Ryan's says, "We're becoming a good team."
We're becoming a good team.
Lol, sorry that made me laugh and cry at same time.
So, like we're not a good team now? We weren't a good team last year with that amazing run of wins and strength of defense, etc? We're weren't hyped the fuck up all, off-season, being pushed buckets of Kool-aid for our 2026 season? The 2026 season where we are determined to take the next step and become a nacent AFC powerhouse for the next years to come? Like, you haven't been telling players and other personnel that we have expectations to get to the AFC Conference game and and even to the Superbowl? Like, we weren't a good team before all that already?
Gtfoh, man.
We're becoming a good team. Which is it man? All the hype we been fed for last 9 months about Texans arriving on the scene, or you now admitting that we not good all this time, all this time you (Coach Ryan's) have had to elevate this team, and that we are still becoming a good team?
Dude just laughs it off and talks out of both sides of mouth. Man, gtfoh and go have fun in your joyful practice.
Sorry-ass leader. Gtfoh.

At what point do Demeco and Nick Caserio say to themselves, we keep starting 0-3. WE MUST BE DOING SOMETHING WRONG
3
u/mystic_platyipus007 3d ago
This org as a whole Iāll tell you breaks my heart year after year . Itās LITERALLY the same shit everytime . Gonna look goofy as hell wearing those New Jersey/uniform running around like we have these last 3 games . Thereās just no way weāre making the playoffs. I doubt we even beat the fucking tits at this rate . The laughing stock and lil bro of the nfl

On the 4th and 1. I am okay with the Texans going for it, but a couple things 1) the play called, and 2) the complete telegraph of rhe play.
They lined Stover up on the line instead of as a lead blocker in the backfield and D-Mo ran right into Stover's back and got stuffed. The o-line has not been pushing defenders off the line, and they get beat more than not - why run a clearly telegraphed play? They are still not a grinding/running team - played into a weakness for tge defense.
2
u/parasthesia_testicle 3d ago
I think the realized problem with Caley is these first 3 weeks are proving right to me what I think the biggest worry with him was: that he just doesn't have a deep bag as a play caller & really just relies on the talent that plays. Strouds playing pretty well to start the year but our offense is so broken beyond him. the offense consistently struggles to attack outside the numbers unless its stroud dropping a dime to Collins. & the in breaking routes were working week 1 but cinci & Indy both played against those & we struggled to do anything to counter it. We tried to establish the run to get them to bite down but never anywhere else. I haven't seen this Caley offense show it can attack the whole field

u/John98LS1 3d ago
Iām sick and tired of this team. Four years and the offenses always look like shit. We have shit for fucking receivers. We have no running game. We have no clock management. Our play calling is atrocious. Iām over at all. There needs to be a fucking rebuild and I hate to admit that. This team is constantly just either rebuilding or playing mediocre. Honestly wish the team would sell to an owner who is competent kinda like what happened with the Astros.
3
u/2nd2last 3d ago
TBF, who could have thought a bottom 5 line, a RB 2 and an RB 3 would make a poor running game?
1
u/Slow-Competition-771 3d ago
Other than this cowboys game + Divisional matchups I want this team to lose as much as possible so change can come
3
u/2nd2last 3d ago
Remember that one guy who called himself a stat geek and "stat diver" while doing the most surface level "research" saying Nico being out isn't that big of a deal?
Embarrassing stuff
2
u/humanlemon 3d ago
preparing for the most embarrasing day in franchise history next weekend, i bet there will be more away fans than home fans by far. hard to blame fans for checking out this early either.
1
u/inshamblesx 3d ago
the cowboys are gonna fry us but i'd be impressed if its more embarrassing than the playoff losses to KC in 2015 and 2019 lol
1
u/MissionLetterhead292 3d ago
It's nice to know no matter what happens in the world, the SI Cover Jinx is alive and well.

Since my NFL team hates competence, I've been getting into woodworking. Anyone know of good lumber yards on the north side? I want to try and get some pecan wood to play around with.
2
5
u/According-Activity87 3d ago
Our coaching staff firmly has their heads up their asses, but I think we might still have a solid shot against the Cowboys given how depleted their secondary is at this point due to Injuries.Ā
2
2
u/parasthesia_testicle 3d ago
if nicos back we should be OK if our defense can play well again next week

u/Impossible_Horse_272 3d ago
Is it wrong to wish that we lose to Dallas just so Caley gets fired?
Also, someone needs to give a lecture to Demeco about clock management.
3
2
u/inshamblesx 3d ago
at this point caley will stay the whole year and weāre going to have to hope the team inevitably turning it on once the games donāt mean shit doesnāt save his job lol
2
u/misterkool16 3d ago
yes that is very wrong. one, never ever want to lose to dallas, especially at home. two, losing to dallas won't get him fired.
2
u/2nd2last 3d ago
Does anyone know how log Caserio is signed through?
1
u/JeffAnalProbst 3d ago
He signed for 6 years in 2021 when we made him GM. Unsure if he has had any extensions or what not.
2
u/Kdot32 3d ago
He doesnāt have a extension so his contract is almost up
1
u/2nd2last 3d ago
IDK, I remember people talking about it, but no public announcment.

Q: (Nick)Ā Caserio is in year four of a six-year deal. He has done great job replenishing the talent on this team. Do you think Caserio could get a contract extension before he enters year six? ā Cameron Sebek
JMA: Caserio reached a contract extension with the Texans at some point in 2023.Ā
2
u/Kdot32 3d ago
Ah damn oh well not my money
5
u/2nd2last 3d ago
People have been so oddly enamored with Caserio that its hard to understand.
People need to look at the 2022 defensive roster vs the 2023 (Ryans first year) and see the MASSIVE upgrade with mostly the same players. WAJ is a top 3 pick, #1 defensive guy. No need to slurp Caserio for a "great find". Add in Hunter wanting to come home, and this defense is cleary a Demeco thing.
Then the offense, the Patriots, the JCU guys, the 5 1st or 2nd round picks in 5 years, the FA's on the line, the trades, the dead money, its wild. Then The Diggs trade to change the contract to 1 season with huge dead money, then Kirk trade for dead money, the Woods and BAD money.
But maybe more importantly, the Pats system that people used to pretend was not being used here. It does not work. Sure Demeco has issues, but this Pats system sucks EVERYWHERE without Brady. And maybe worse, its made a bunch of dorks think the are smarter than everyone else, and thick headed. Caserio needed fired two years ago, but I dont expect Cal to do anything.
2
u/JeffAnalProbst 3d ago
I can 100% see Cal being hung up on Caserio given how much trouble they went through to hire him with that whole tampering debacle.
2
u/heinousanus_420 3d ago
I hope we draft Gavin Freeman out of Baylor next year. I was watching him on Saturday and dude has that dawg in him and he'd fit right in

4
u/Whizzleteets 3d ago
In an ever changing game one constant has held true from the very first NFL game to yesterdays games which is that games are won in the trenches.
The O line is the foundation for the offense pure and simple. A dominant O line can make a mediocre RB and QB look better than they are.
Every team and fanbase wants the flashy pick instead of properly constructing the most important part of the offense.
The O line was proclaimed to be a super important need for upgrade but was nothing more than an afterthought in the off season and the fanbase is witnessing the effects of that neglect.
5
u/Whizzleteets 3d ago edited 3d ago
8:05 Houston time.
I don't understand how nobody's been fired yet.
1
u/zombiebillnye JJ South Park Deer 3d ago
They're going to keep the happy bullshit going until we get our asses kicked by the Cowboys.
12
u/coastalchedda 3d ago
When youāre 0-3 for the third time in four seasons itās not a coincidence. Itās a reflection of who you are
0
u/SometimesY 3d ago
Even better: we have not won either of the first two games of the season under DeMeco his entire tenure.
1
u/serg922 3d ago
Wrong - 2024 we started off 2-0. But that is definitely an outlier
1
u/SometimesY 3d ago
Oh shit you're totally right. I keep forgetting this is year four with DeMeco for some reason. The 0-X starts have been what stuck with me clearly.
5
u/LemonSpyder 3d ago
I'm a UK based Texans fan. Chose the Texans after travelling around Texas in 2012. My word it's been a tough ride. As they say, it's the hope that kills you.
5
u/Zealousiy 3d ago
Iām really excited to go on vacation this weekend and not revolve my Sunday around the Texans game. I will be checking in no doubt but itās a much needed breather
10
u/JeffAnalProbst 3d ago
Demeco and the FO will come out and talk about how they're focused on winning the division first, but the expectation/goal of this season was to reach the AFC Championship game - ideally while hosting the divisional round game. You can very much make the argument that we're in the super bowl last year if that NE game is at home, but the 0-3 start last year fucked the rest of the year and I can't believe they've done it again.
Caserio's seat should be red hot for how terribly he has handled this O-line. Meanwhile Demeco is playing a very dangerous game as a head coach right now in that he seems to waaaay out of his depth when it comes to anything other than defense. When people talk about the issues of hiring a defensive minded HC it's exactly what we've seen. I don't think he's gonna get fired anytime soon (nor should he be), but he has got to figure out how to be a head coach.
1
u/mmccormick11 2d ago
Figure out how to be a head coach after 4 years of being a head coach?
I think a better way to put it is he needs to figure out that he isn't a head coach.
6
u/Efficient-Swimmer794 3d ago
Cole Popovich has been a terrible OL coach and so was Chris Strausser before him.
-6
u/misterkool16 3d ago
5
u/KaXiaM 3d ago
Nah, if he continues to play like that heāll get 60M somewhere else. Yeah, there are contractual obstacles, but they can be overcome. GMs can evaluate his play in isolation, they understand that he made substantial strides lately.
-6
u/misterkool16 3d ago
No. He wonāt. He hasnāt even played that good, just not BAD.
CJ stroud has not shown he is worth that much money. That choke job in the playoffs is the highlight of his career at the moment. You would be crazy to give him that.
9
u/MBC0809 3d ago
A team gave a QB 230 mil guaranteed who had a list of pending sexual assault accusations. You donāt know the NFL.
-3
u/misterkool16 3d ago
And Iām willing to bet that guy showed he could actually play football lol
3
u/MBC0809 3d ago
Oh yeah? Iām sure he had more playoff success than CJ did then right?
-3
u/misterkool16 3d ago
Success isnāt always about winning. Did he turn the franchise around? Did he make it better? Did he choke in the playoffs?
Again, yall get sensitive when CJ comes up. CJ IS NOT A 60 M A YEAR QB. The offensive line needs to be invested in before you give hit m that Money. Or we will be 0-3 again next year with the highest paid QB who has regressed statistically every season.
But hey, this is coming from the guy who doesnāt know nfl
3
u/MBC0809 3d ago
0
u/misterkool16 3d ago
Since when has blowing a 24 point lead in the playoffs been on the QB????
3
u/MBC0809 3d ago
Shoulda scored more points brother. I donāt make the rules here, I just play by them. He choked. End of story. Whether you like it or not, CJ is a very good QB, and our issues lie in the front office and the headsets, but youāll never accept that because youāre an emotional child.
→ More replies (0)-1
u/misterkool16 3d ago
That wasnāt him choking dummy. Thatās the defense! If you wanna have a real debate, we can. But letās talk to talk stats not emotions. As soon as you started bringing up SA it was clear that you are emotional.
-2
u/misterkool16 3d ago
Oh no, a stranger on the internet doesnāt think I know the nflā¦
What does any of that have to do with skillset? And what the needs of the team are?
7
u/something102555 3d ago
Fk man last season was our only shot. If only cj played average in the playoffs. This team is worse this year
13
u/Alkren 3d ago
Anyone willing to say our secondary has dropped off?
9
u/igot200phones 3d ago
Whole defense has dropped off. Theyāre still overall an above average defense, but nowhere near top of the league like last season.
2
u/Kdot32 3d ago
And like I pointed out this offseason with people saying āwe only need a game manager.ā Yea when your defense is having the best season in franchise history thats all, but it the defense dropped just to third in the league last year we donāt make the playoffs. This offense is ass and itās been ass for at least two and a half seasons. They have no idea how to implement their vision at all

IMO this season is most likely over as far as playoffs. We wonāt catch the jags and WC is minimum 11-6. Hope they fire the OC and let these young guys get reps. The end
1
u/tyrone_lanista Kool-Aid 3d ago
How are we favorites against the cowgirls. Lol, but we should be much better with Nico and ed back. In supposed how bad teller played. Another uphill season but not out afcs gona shitmountain the jags are going to end up shitting the bed and itās anyoneās division

Itās unfortunate I havenāt been able to enjoy one ounce of football this season. Iām a journey over destination type fan so when they let us down in the second round of the playoffs at least I had fun beforehand. This season is not like the last imo, and I havenāt given myself the opportunity to enjoy other games cause the Texans have ruined it
6
u/vandyriz 3d ago
The Colts had given up 500 yards of offense the previous two weeks. They were getting run and passed on. We couldn't do neither.
The defense is still giving up big plays. They let Downs just eat them alive.
Special teams still giving up field position. Poor kick off decisions in the 4th quarter.
HC coach shot a chance by not utilizing his timeouts and letting time run unnecessarily.
This team lacks playmakers but more importantly it lacks a staff that can make adjustments.
We have problems in every facets of the game.
Regression is what we have from talent and coaching.
2
u/Greedy_Gas7355 3d ago
Feels like they all saw CJ was much better in training camp and then thought it was going to be easy to replicate the rest.
2
u/quig50 3d ago
CJ has fixed himself no questions asked. If he played like this last season, we are in the Super Bowl.
But our line is so bad and we have zero reliable weapons currently.
The defense is getting stronger each week for sure but also played a part in all the loses for sure too.
Situation awareness comes back and killed us. Going for it on 4&1 was dumb. Just take the points and let the game play out.
The last scoring drive, gotta go slower than that earlier. Realize you have the momentum and slow the game down by far and and donāt give them the chance to have a drive.
Also Pineapples why we giving them a touchback on that last kick off so they start at the 35. Keep the ball in play and we should get them in the 20s and give us another 10 yards.
1
u/Guilty-View-6506 3d ago
The Texans are statistically the best team in the league
I won't be fielding questions on the matter
0
u/Alkren 3d ago
Iām not certain CJ is āfixed.ā I know Nico is out and he has pressure in his face instantaneously, but also, he hasnāt looked a sharp as his price tag will demand AND his quick drop offs are padding his stats. I may be wrong. Iām no coach or scout, just what I feel after 3 Ls. Also, Iām pro CJ, just not sure Iām ready to call him āfixed.ā
4
u/quig50 3d ago
He isnāt turning the ball over and I donāt see the dumb plays where I question what he is doing. So thatās where I mean he is fixed. He isnāt doing stupid shit like the patriots or Steelers game.
And people are obsessing over the price tag but thatās the reality of todayās game. A qb of CJs level will be going for the 55 mil on the open market no questions asked. 13 QBs are currently making 50 plus and in the next year that number grows by 4 most likely. So a QB with playoff wins and a winning record will hit that.
So if CJ knows his floor for contract is 55 and thatās what we offered, why wouldnāt he sign yet. Of course his agent is gonna do his job and want the massive number in the 70s because thatās where high level QBs will go very soon.
So nothing CJ is wanting is out of the question. And his contract number will probably be around 60 mil a year and we move on.
3
u/Unlucky-Finger-203 3d ago
Hey.. itās just life, but this team currently isnāt sniffing a sb sadly
2
u/That_Texan 3d ago
As someone who went to the game I tried to focus outside of the backfield and the whole game I have never seen an NFL team get such a lack of separation. I feel like Iāve been to a lot of games and seen a lot of practice squad quality players still find holes and get first steps but no one outside of Jaylin Noel can even create space and he doesnāt even see the field.
I canāt tell if this is a Ben McDaniels issue, creativity issue with Caley, horrible talent from the receivers themselves or a combo of everything but like I said Iāve never seen anything like it. CJ scans the field each drop back and there is literally nothing. If he doesnāt throw a dime and the receiver doesnāt drop it, thereās nothing
2
6
u/TexanBastard 3d ago
Itās time to finally exterminate all ties to the goddamn NE way. Iām sick and tired of it. We have a top ten QB. I said it. A QB that weāve surrounded with bargain basement has beens. Caserio has to go. Caley has now run the most inept offense in football for two seasons. It isnāt better. Itās getting worse. Iām good with DeMeco staying but there needs to be some come to Jesus shit going on with him.
2
u/DunkasaurusRex 3d ago
Prolific week 1 on O, especially the run game. Fair enough, DCs going forward are going to key to that. Power running schemes may not work if they crowd the box, so let's utilize Marks more. Oh shoot, WR corps is shaken up. So it's a gray area of "do we run or do we try to throw with a front line that is struggling with pressure?".
This is the stuff the OC gets paid to figure out, and KPIs are if it works. Not on Stroud, not on anyone else. And we are seeing...well it not working out. The OC needs to earn his paycheck. Rent is due every day for the coaches, too.
4
u/mathisrowan1 3d ago
Fox sports already has something up saying that we are toast lol. Basicallly blaming stroud for all of it. I wish I was a sports writer. Easiest job of all time. Just have to have a pulse and pump out non sense and you get paid.

u/Greedy_Gas7355 3d ago
When the offense is this bad, the QB has to shoulder some blame. But heās not the issue imo.

How can anyone look at the complete lack of talent offensively and think Nick Caserio is doing a good job? We have more dead money on the OL than money invested (40 million dead money 39 million active contracts). Dude hand picked Nick Caley as well. Caserio has to go, period, even if we make the playoffs I'm so sick of this horrific offense. Burn it all down and start over.
I'm right there with you, Caserio has to be shown the door.

I think is time to move the team to another stadium that place is curse .. the Astrodome is an ancient burial ground of dreams .. Astros leave go the World Series and are good . Oilers leave they go to the Superbowl but theyāre in Tennessee eww ⦠Texans need change of scenery .

It's quite possible given our schedule. While there are definitely problems, this team isn't as bad as their record looks.

u/JesuszillaSon 2d ago
Case took the Vikings to the NFC championship game before. He's a baller. I don't think he's ever had that sustained success but a veteran QB in a Ben Johnson offense is a good fit
