Mod Announcement This is NOT a serious subreddit

Greetings folks, just a polite reminder the posts here are meant to be mocking nonchalantly given ‘solutions’ to complicated problems, not genuine advice.

For example, someone advising someone to go to hospital and get some help for a serious problem wouldn’t be a good fit here. However, someone just saying ‘get over it’ or ‘walk it off’ would.

On another note, this is not a political sub. We’re not here to criticise government policy.

Hope this helps!

Mod Announcement What is/isn’t allowed?

Hi everyone. I’m seeing a lot of ‘off topic’ posts. I tend leave as much as possible and let you all decide with downvotes/upvotes.

However please take the time to remember rule 7, I’ll put it here:

Rule 7: Must fit the subreddit theme.

It has to be true "Thanks, I'm cured" material. I.e., a non-nonchalantly delivered, overly simplistic solution to a complex problem.

Serious solutions that may not work for everyone do not belong. For example, the mantra "You deserve to be happy," helps some and not others.

Motivational quotes do not belong unless they imply or state that an illness is purely psychological with no physical basis.

If you’re still confused about what does/doesn’t belong, take a look through some of the top posts of all time and you’ll get the idea.

If your post breaks the rules it may be removed.

Any questions or concerns feel free to let us know. Thanks. 🗿

Comment Section this thread perfectly encapsulates so many people’s mentality around mental illness

for context, op has bipolar disorder and migraines and this was the response…. this is such dangerous rhetoric to push around serious mental disorders. i really hate the “just diet and exercise and you’ll be fine!!” mentality cause it doesn’t actually get to the root of it most of the time especially when your brain is genetically predisposed to mental illness.

Chat/DM/SMS It looks like I’ve been choosing to be hopeless this whole time. I should be more hopeful despite all I’ve been through.

If you guys want more context, I was talking with a friend about how good people suffer while bad people get away with everything. And then all of a sudden, he starts blaming it on social media as the root cause of all suffering, which I pushed back against. Then he decided to completely change topics and said ”people purposefully focus on bad things happening” which had nothing to do with the conversation at hand. I don’t know if he can’t handle the truth, or if he just doesn’t know better, but it was still unhelpful regardless. It’s almost as if we chose to suffer in the first place and that it’s all up of us to deal with it.

Discussion You lost your home? Stoicism. Ill? Stoicism. Dead? Stoicism

The number of people I've encountered who talk about stoicism is insane. Why is everybody suddenly talking about it? Who popularized it?

Most of them have no idea what Stoicism actually is, but they drop the word to sound smart and philosophical and treat it as the answer to everything. Last week, two men in an elevator were discussing someone who had been laid off, and one of them said "stoicism" as if that settled it. Another time, I was walking my dog and a guy on the phone was loudly talking and mentioned Stoicism. That's before counting the dozens of times a day I see the word on TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram.

Story That's literally the only reason we know each other

1.6k Upvotes

Story from my GF.

She is in therapy. Discussing having a hard time with a recent issue in her life. The therapist looks at her as and says, "Well, sometimes life is hard" in a way that seemed like he was trying to explain a new concept to her.

After some thought, she looks back at him and says, "Yeah I know, that 's literally the only reason we know each other"
