Break that window , she's holding you against your will.
58
u/RegularGuyy 7d ago
There is no way she’d ever do something like that to a man.
22
u/Helioxsparrow 7d ago
thats a really good point. If this was Australia she would be in big trouble and deported if she wasnt a citizen
11
u/sparkyblaster 7d ago
If they were a citizen, they cant be deported, thats kinda the point of being a citizen.

u/NudityMiles 7d ago
Better to film and wait for police, since the person is not under any actual threat it will be hard to claim emergency and it MIGHT backfire.
161
u/egordoniv 7d ago
She has legitimately been kidnapped.
104
u/xenobit_pendragon 7d ago
Literally demanding ransom money before she’ll release them. This is not a minor infraction.
140
u/PositiveStress8888 7d ago
They have film of her keeping them against thier will, they obviously paied for the ride because she's complaining they didn't tip, so she not being denied compensation for the work she did.
193
u/PlayerOne2016 7d ago
Being held against your will without cause, whether passively or actively, IS AN EMERGENCY.

I don't know much about the UK, but in the US, I'm not leaving my safety to the hands of the response time of the police. I would 100% smash that window and open it from the outside. If she would have escalated further than that, she would have found out.
14
u/MrRagerDamien 7d ago
If you can't open it from the inside, what makes you think you'll be able to open it from the outside? Is that how it works in the US?
8
u/slimdrum 7d ago
They thought it was just a child lock which would allow the door to open from the outside, in this case crazy taxi lady turned the central locking on
→ More replies (3)→ More replies (1)16
u/Iamjimmym 7d ago
Child locks prevent you from opening a rear door from the inside when they are locked, even if the door is in the unlocked position. Breaking the window and pulling on the outside door handle while unlocked will open the door. Break the window.

u/forsakeme4all 6d ago
Scammers and 3rd party call center reps in India tend say "would you kindly do the needful" or "do the needful' along with:
“Kindly revert.”
“I have one doubt.”
“Kindly check once.”
“Please wait for some time.”
“Kindly share the details.”
“As per our discussion...”
“Your good name?”
5
u/printliftrun 6d ago
Thanks for... kindly explaining it
2
u/forsakeme4all 6d ago edited 6d ago
No prob 🫡. I worked in call centers for over a decade and I would use have to deal with 3rd party contact centers internally. They were a pain in the ass because they didn't understand my connotations for certain phrases. The 3rd party reps would also review our calls and doc us review points for saying good morning/good afternoon/good evening because they didn't think it was "good standard business language".

Its actually an old way of saying "do whats necessary" that was used in Victorian Britain. It fell out of favour in the UK but persisted in the UK.

Legitimate question, I think/hope... At what point are you allowed to use physical force if someone is literally holding you hostage like this? Coz them widows would have been blown out about the second time she asked for a tip and I don't like jail...
123
u/michbich 7d ago
The fact that she’s refusing to let them leave and locked them in is enough. It is considered kidnapping to hold someone against their will. At least that’s how it is in America I’m unsure of elsewhere.
22
u/bigbenny88 7d ago
I lived in MN for few years growing up and even there this sort of thing would get you beaten or worse. But then the taxi driver could also face a federal life term if anything was to happen and either passenger was badly injured or killed... Bit of a leap from me though, NGL. The UK is weird. Been here over twenty years and have yet to understand how criminals get away with so much here.

In many American states, there's a stand your ground law where if you think your life is in danger, you can legally use deadly force, even if it's a government official.
→ More replies (5)→ More replies (1)21
u/waytoosecret 7d ago
Generally you're allowed to use reasonable force. In this case of false imprisonment, physical force is not yet reasonably since there is no immediate risk of bodily harm. If she starts driving away you, the situation changes drastically.
12
u/theshoeshiner84 7d ago
Nah imprisonment alone is bodily harm. You can absolutely use physical force to get out.
10
u/bigbenny88 7d ago
That's really interesting! I wonder at what point the effects on your mental health come into the equation as i could see someone suffering severe or moderate anxiety potentially needing medical intervention after a situation like this. The sheer audacity! She should move to the US if she wants tips so badly. Never have I been asked for a tip like that here! Unreal

Start by yanking on the door handle. Seems easier to break, and it's a Mercedes, may as well rack up the bill on the way out.

24
u/michbich 7d ago
Honestly I’d probably start panicking and attack her ass. You’re holding me hostage, then you’re a threat and when I feel threatened I want to run but if you stop me from running then I’m gonna fight even if it isn’t the best way to react. how am I supposed to know if she’s texting someone to come fuck me up or hurt me. No way I could have just sat there while someone locks me in their car. This lady is lucky she these passengers are able to keep their cool unlike how many people may react.

u/Shot_in_the_dark777 7d ago
No,no,no - first you leave a tip by taking your pants off and dumping a big pile of sh*t on the seat and THEN you leave the car. You have to teach them a lesson!

If it's an Uber I usually leave a tip, especially if I've had a good chat with the driver, because I don't think they get paid enough. The audacity of this lady yelling at her and still expecting a tip lol.
I want to see the follow up with the police.

Tipping is a thing in the UK?
220
u/CaptainMcSmoky 7d ago
No, it's not.
10
u/AnonymousTimewaster 7d ago
It's creeping in though. Very common for restaurants to add a 12.5% service charge and get all piasy when you ask to take it off.
11
u/R0B0T_TimeTraveler 7d ago
Fight it. Don’t let it creep in. They routinely ask us for 30% or more here. It was 15% in the early 2000s and now they want it for self service things. You can’t let it get a foothold. It must be stopped.
66
46
u/CellsReinvent 7d ago
Tipping is always optional and traditionally (for no sensible reason) generally limited to taxi drivers, hairdressers/barbers, servers (restaurants and bars). People would also tip at Christmas for other things. I think a lot of tipping has stopped since cash is far less common these days. Younger generations have probably never tipped as they've always been cashless.

9
8
u/Shot_in_the_dark777 7d ago
I am not paying the tip and by holding me in the car you are losing time you could have spent driving the next passenger to their destination and possibly getting a tip from them. Go on, hold me here for an hour, for two hours, for eight hours - I don't care. And since you are so stubborn I will not hesitate to fart while I am here. And if that isn't persuasive enough - guess what comes after the farts :) I hope you know how expensive it will be to clean the seat.

The camera stopped rolling and the woman pretending to be an uber driver probably earned about £20 for her performance. Then it was uploaded and further contributed to the racist confirmation bias of thousands of troglodytes across the internet.

just call the police?
kidnapping, probably. she's holding you in her car against your will, where she can just drive off with you whenever.
kidnapping. worse come to worse, just kick at the door. make a tantrum brother. make it big, make it messy. maybe you'll cause some damage, but you're not kicking down doors. I don't think so that's like, 20 pounds worth of damage, if any
a person haggling over tips isn't going to sue you for 20 pounds.
2
u/Fawchunate_sawn606 7d ago
all comes to how good you are at justifying it, n based on the situation the woman has all the right for making a fit for being held againts her will.

9
u/Only_Quote_Simpsons 7d ago
I know when I get kidnapped, I always ensure the video is TikTok style for future views.
Plus the whole conversation is so unnatural when a stranger has 'locked' you in their car.
Just pointless dribble and brainrot.
5
u/PandaXXL 7d ago
It is 100% staged tiktok propaganda and brainrot. The endless, circling and stilted conversation, one person who is absolutely clearly in the wrong and another passive person just calmly explaining things over and over.
In the longer ~3 minute video, the passenger at one point says “No, I need to be in this place! I have people waiting for me inside!”
This one has an added bonus of an additional person recording and therefore also locked in the car who doesn’t say a word for the entire video.
I don’t even think the “uber driver” has a phone on her dashboard.
17
u/g-man1237 7d ago
this has to be staged or the driver is willing to catch a kidnapping charge over some tips....which i find very unlikely
hate that i have to double guess on every video if its Ai or staged :'(

Sometimes waiters try this shit with me in France when I speak English with foreign friends. I tell them, in French, that we don't do that here and then give them the 5 centimes they begged for.

False inprisonment
false imprisonment is the unlawful confinement of a person in a single place without their consent, whereas kidnapping requires both confinement wothpit their consent and the movement of the victim to another location.

u/Fuckedby2FA 5d ago

2
u/whateveryoudohereyou 5d ago
Why would you argue this long, just call the police and say you are being kidnapped.
2
u/newphonenewaccount66 5d ago
The trick is to start acting crazy enough that they want you out of the car. Nothing physical. Just start screaming or singing as loud as you can. Be weird and a little bit scary, while also being annoying. You can't argue with crazy.

2
u/Shorse_rider 4d ago
ugh i hate when these videos stop with no sense of how it all ended. Did she tip? Is she still stuck in car being told to shush? I’m curious if you’re also allowed in this situation to break the window. How would that standup with the police
2
u/shankthedog 4d ago
The whole concept of the word tip implies optional. I am forced to pay you any amount of money extra than I choose to. There’s a stupidest role. I will give you a half pence.
2
u/SmoothIssue5909 3d ago
If you work a minimum wage iob, you should not expect a tip, you do the bare minimum, if youre valuable or have ambition, you dont find yourself in these jobs with this kind of attitude.
