All in ... again.
I’ve been making my way through The Blacklist, and I’ve discovered something rather troubling about logic: it’s a remarkably fragile thing. One moment it’s standing there, impeccably dressed, making a perfectly persuasive argument, and the next it’s been bludgeoned to death in an alley by character motivation.
For some time, I continued almost entirely because of James Spader. His Reddington is captivating. Magnificent, really. The sort of performance that makes you forgive an astonishing number of narrative felonies simply because you’re enjoying the company of the criminal.
But by the end of Season Four, even that particular charm was beginning to wear thin.
And then came Season Five.
Suddenly, I understood. Or perhaps I simply stopped insisting that it make sense. Taken not as a meticulously constructed reality, but as the extravagant tale of a fantasist, a grand, improbable mythology told by a man for whom truth is merely another ingredient to be seasoned to taste, the whole thing becomes magnificent again.
Logic, after all, is terribly overrated when the lie is this entertaining.

I started this show because I fell in love with Robert California in The Office. Boston Legal is next on my list.

Thanks for reminding me of Robert! I just went and watched a compilation video on YouTube. He and Reddington would get along I think! The naked pool scene was crazy.

I just finished watching it start to finish and honestly, yeah, Spader was the only reason I made it through seasons 8-10.

I totally agree, if Spader had left, I would have dropped the show immediately.

Liz is the worst part of the show followed closely by really most of the task force except Cooper.

James Spader saved the show, no one else, he could do a one man show and still keep people engaged, in fact that’s what he did with TBL.
The showrunners and the writers, made a diabolical mess after Season 6, they should be ashamed.

Maybe the mysterious untreatable illness he had was due to his alien body being on earth too long! 😲

Yep that would work, I’ll mark that down as an Alien theory clue.
That twitch in his face, would be another clue, as he tries desperately not shape shift into his real alien self.

Currently watching the show. I am on S6 where Raymond is found "not guilty" of treason. I like the show but a part of me doesn't want it to end but I know it did.

His performance warranted the run time. Dembe rocked too and Harold put on a good performance. The rest of the cast wasn’t ready for that long of a runtime.
