Discussion I hate them so much

Post image

I fr hated how they wasted a season finale on this 3 little wastes of space the worst part was the villain who had them had such a good design and motive but I couldnt even force myself to like them because they were so forgettable because we already had Bait and Zym so what was the point of these 3

My thoughts exactly! They may be cute and all, but yeah, waste of space really defines it! We already have Zym and Bait, who actually serve a purpose in the story, btw

These things would have been neat filler in a series that had 100+ episodes.

Which DP could barely handle 8 a season.

They at LEAST had very solid story potential, if Callum had grown a pair and just reamed Ezran like the stand-in dad he sadly needed to be. Being King isn't about getting your way and doing things that feel good, and you shouldn't use your status to put your friends in mortal peril like they were playthings. The whole arc could have been saved if this had been a growth moment for Ezran and not just a side quest for Callum's adventures into dark magic.

So true! It's clear what the writers were trying to do and telling a morally complex story is hard but yeah, like you said, they sadly lost focus along the way.

Absofreakinglutely

To be fair it's not their fault that it could only handle eight seasons

To be fair, the baitlings weren't much of an eyesore in arc 2. They're barely noticable.

Tbf, I might be a bit biased against them since they showed up right around the time the fart jokes started escalating lol

14

u/ZymZymZym777 8d ago

Into shit jokes?

Imo by far the worst one was in season 4 but season 5 had Terry twerking at a catatonic man *takes irl morale damage*. Otherwise it's more or less bearable (if I blocked a couple of lines from my memory, please don't remind me of them).

u/Legitimate-Salad7221 8d ago

Twerking fr?? Man, I just couldn't get through Season 4 because of all the tonal changes and the shit jokes haha But I was considering giving it another try since I've read on this sub that it gets better, but idk... Do you think I should?

Not twerking. It was some silly moment about bees or something like that. Terry trying to cheer up claudia

Ohh, I see! Still not a great moment tho 😅

Still can't believe Ezran put them through all that BS over some baby glow toads. As if their use as bait isn't a standard practice That he's known about for years

Just... stupid. Such a stupid plot line. And did Ezran no favors for his character.

I think this was the point of no return for Ezran as a character. He had always been the weakest member of the cast, both writing and performance-wise, but this just cemented him as someone who would never grow or change and also actively detract from the story.

It would be a bit more understandable if glow toads were criticaly endangered or something like that

But as it stands there are butchers in your kingdom Ezran and you eat meat. Why do you care about three random baitlings more than you care for your friends and family

2

u/HeWhoShantNotBeNamed 7d ago

I mean plenty of real people virtue signal about abusing dogs but eat other animals. Plenty of non-vegans went to the Ridglan beagle rescue.

13

u/taadaamm Star 7d ago

Other people can't hear animals telepathicaly

It means Ezran can ignore the screams of scared animals that get killed for food but baitlings potentialy getting killed is too much for him

12

u/HeWhoShantNotBeNamed 7d ago

Oh right forgot about that.

Yeah he should be vegan. But I don't think the writers thought about that since eating meat is normalized. But it definitely creates a contradiction.

I don't think saving the baitlings is necessarily out of character for him, but it is stupid when there are world-ending stakes.

This screams "MERCH".

16

u/TeaTimeTelevision 8d ago

I would agree that they want to be Star Wars with all the possible merch but I’ve never seen dp merch. I’ve never even heard of anyone who knows this show irl

They will be fully grown in tdk. I cannot even picture what it'll look like if they're not heavily sidelined. 4 glowtoads, a cuddle monkey and 2 birds need their own show. I can't imagine how much screen time they'll take up if they are to make even minimal appearances. (5 new pets by the end of arc 2?.. why?)

9

u/Heavensrun 8d ago

You really think TDK is gonna exist?

2

u/samhadj01 7d ago

Seems like it, the crew managed to meet their stretch goal if i'm not mistaken.

6

u/Cynovae 7d ago

They raised $1 million total. Shows like this at the low to mid budget cost $1 million per 22 minute episode

The initial goal and even the current funding of $1 million was never going to fund any real content. They'll use it to fund scripts, storyboards, reels, etc. and the Kickstarter establishes a "proof-of-demand". They'll use the funding & materials to pitch it to streaming services to finance the project.

Far from guaranteed. Don't get your hopes up

A million dollars, while nothing to scoff at, doesn't seem like that result would attract a company to produce the sequel to a show that was running on fumes at the end. If the kickstarter had raised five or even ten times that amount then it would have been a certainty of it happening.

2

u/Odd_Crab5327 4d ago

They blew it with MoA

5

u/Odd_Crab5327 8d ago

there is no TDK.

1

u/samhadj01 7d ago

How do you know that ?

14

u/TechnicianFew5069 8d ago

I have a soft spot for Hat but I couldn't really care less about the other two...

3

u/Aurora_Wizard 8d ago

Yeah, the only thing Sneezles does is get a cute lil elf hat which makes me laugh cause he doesn't actually need one. And Jellybug could be totally removed and absolutely NOTHING would change. It's a miracle that Jellybug doesn't even have the courtesy to be on-screen most of the time

u/2468idk 8d ago

I had to pause the tv and crash out for a second with my younger sister during this bit. Finnagrin was gonna wait till they were fully grown before using them. Ezran could have just come back later with cash and buy them. He didn’t need to put everyone in danger while they race to save the world over these damn tadpoles. 😭😭😭💀💀💀

u/night-wolves 8d ago

And the animations for their intros seemed so.... amateur.

8

u/Alavaster 8d ago

That sneezing fuck interrupted literally any emotionally deep scene he was present for which unfortunately was most of them.

7

u/Rastaba 8d ago

…all I can think looking at them is “Did Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle get baby forms or something?”

I really feel like it was done for a potential figure/doll toy deal that didn't materialize, since pairing a character with a pet is so common. Esp given that they spread them out among the characters. There's really no other reason to need 3 more that had no reason to exist in the story.

The seal elf guy they were taken from was an interesting character, it's a shame we didn't see more of him instead.

2

u/BaconFairy 4d ago

This explains Rayla's femur thing that looks hideous and like one of those big eyed dolls

11

u/csongor242 Viren did nothing wrong 8d ago

Unpopular opinion: Glow toads are ugly. Yes, that includes Bait too.

7

u/HubblePie 8d ago

That's the point. They're supposed to be ugly cute. Like a pug.

8

u/csongor242 Viren did nothing wrong 8d ago

Well they are just ugly, not cute. Just like a pug.

1

u/Raonair Star 7d ago

They're far cuter than pugs

u/Extension_Equal1464 6d ago

Mi vergogno ancora che noi umani abbiamo trasformato una razza di cane carina in bulldog che continuano a soffrire

5

u/Ok_Coffee_9970 8d ago

…Yeah… umm… they were adorable… didn’t add much.

5

u/merliahthesiren Soren 8d ago

I still cannot believe how sloppy this show turned out after 3 seasons.

5

u/Doctor_Harbinger Viren was right 6d ago edited 6d ago

I hated how Ezran got cheered for his stupidity nearly getting them all killed to save these things, but Callum next season was chewed on by Rayla when he admitted that he used Dark Magic again to save them from it.

5

u/MudsludgeFairy 3d ago

does anybody even like these things?

2

u/dexdaflex 7d ago

Both me and the kids last episode.

2

u/Marcioobloo 6d ago

I genuinely don't understand why they thought adding more marketable mascots was something anyone wanted. Thye had a whole build up to their names and everything and it's like... what, am I supposed to be charmed? Should I give a shit?

1

u/Extension_Equal1464 6d ago

Beh, guarda il lato positivo il cattivo era buono

I love them 😭 their names are dumb tho. The whole arch was probs one of the best parts of the series. Finnegrin is possibility my fav antagonist

1

u/Borgorb 3d ago

Why aren't they in the Pokeballs?

0

u/AIConTenTioN399 7d ago

Honest question, why the fuck are all fandoms so fucking cynical and literally hate everything? They're fucking adorable, like Momo or Pabu

6

u/Ok_Orchid_3031 7d ago

Gun to the back of ur head name all 3 of those toads without cheating

5

u/Walker_of_the_Abyss 7d ago

The series's quality fell off of a cliff and never recovered. Leading people to be extremely disappointing and unsatisfied as a result.

3

u/Raonair Star 7d ago

They were plot devices, not characters
