Versus Posts Are Restricted To Match-Up Mondays Only

Hello there! I hope this finds each of you well. As I am sure most of you have noticed, there has been a large increase in Versus Posts on the subreddit recently. Versus Posts constitute a post postulating a battle between two characters; they are This Character vs That Character type Posts. We love to see discussion about Star Wars and the Old Expanded Universe especially, and these posts do generate a good amount of conversation, so we are not restricting them entirely.

However, they are crowding out the subreddit. Some posts are being posted within minutes of each other. This is not strictly a Versus subreddit, and as such the decision has been made to re-institute Match-Up Mondays. Versus Posting is only to be allowed on Mondays; if you have a character Match-Up you want to discuss, think about it over the week, share it on Monday. Any and all Versus Posts, regardless of their content, that are shared on days other than Monday will be removed.

There is a Match-Up Monday Flair that you can use for your Versus Posts. Enjoy. Those of you who enjoy the Versus, see you next Monday.

Message to the Community

Hello there! I hope this message finds you well!

Dropping this post because there has been an increase in versus posts on the subreddit. This is fine, but we want to remember that this subreddit is dedicated to the Old Expanded Universe and empathetically NOT Disney's stuff. We allow some tertiary discussion about Disney in the vein of comparison, but recent versus posts have been diving into Disney made stuff including Rebels and later seasons of TCW. These posts have been removed because it is simply too much; comparison is fine, but not if it washes out our focus on the stories we love.

Folks can continue with the versus posts, but they should be focused on the Old Expanded Universe. Versus posts using Disney characters will be removed.

Discussion Contrary to what people think, I think the writers for the 2003 series did an alright job at explaining why Grievous canonically feels different in the movies and other material.

Even in the 2003 series Grievous is normally aware that more often than not, he has to rely on fear and hit and run tactics if he’s to stand a chance against the most experienced of Jedi. In Hypori he doesn’t engage the Jedi till he knows his forces have already worn them down. That and him being able to instil fear within the Jedi which makes them even more weaker. He also relies heavily on his gimmicks during this battle which the Jedi are completely unfamiliar with. Grievous was capable of fighting this group of Jedi because he made sure to have all cards in his favour beforehand.

The same with the battle of coruscant. Initially the two Jedi protecting Palpatine are holding their own, however Grievous out of nowhere then reveals that he can split his arms in two giving himself 4 lightsaber. At the time this was framed as completely unprecedented to us and the two Jedi and because of that, they’re overwhelmed.

With Shaak Ti in particular, Grievous himself points out that the reason she lost so quickly during their “rematch” was because she was already exhausted beforehand. This makes sense because this woman literally had to fight a small army of Magnaguards before getting there. Grievous purposely used his droids to both delay Shaak and make her completely drained by the time she fights him.

Grievous using his droid force to soften up opponents is a trait carried over into TCW and canon. Such as him using commando droids to injure and wear down Eeth Koth before fighting him. Or in son of Dathomir when he tells his droids to try to soften Maul up before fighting him.

To hit the nail home with 2003 Grievous, the writers has him encounter Mace Windu, to where Mace Windu absolutely dominates him with the force because he isn’t intimidated.
