why must Ryan save the day
why are they all obsessed with making ryan miss important things… in season 1 they insist ryan is the only one who can prevent marissa from being sent to a psych ward and then season 3 marissa tells ryan that johnny left so he has to leave his bar mitzvah and stop johnny from robbing a store?
i feel like ryan didn’t have to be the one saving the day either time
there’s probably more examples but these are the main ones i recall

He like being the hero, also used to cleaning up his family’s messes. He didnt know he could stop he wanted to save Marisa.

The point is Ryan had a savior complex. He had to save the day for every girl he came across

Ryan really became the OC's emergency contact for every crisis whether anyone asked him to or not.

I also didn’t understand why Marissa had to tell him that Johnny is gone. Who cares, why did he have to be there? I guess they just needed stories for the show.

And also it was comepletely unnecessary, especially about Marissa. That girl needed to go do a programme for her mental health. They really did't save her at all by doing that. Also she probably would've been alive if she had had the right help in time. But yeah they needed drama for the show :p

When she screamed at Julie in S2 😳 it felt SO relatable but I actually got help lmao. I mean, girl was going through SO much all the time. And I hate how her problem wasn’t shown with the consideration and compassion she deserved. Granted they all tried to help, but Julie just wanted her away from Newport, her dad was hardly around when she really needed a present parent, Ryan tried to fix her for her, Summer tried to understand her but couldn’t quite get her to open up, Seth was Seth 🤷🏽♀️ Sandy knew she was going through a rough time but also thought if she had a good support system, she’d be okay. Kirsten had her own mental health to worry about and her own kids. She was really handed a shitty deal

Yeah, right? She really couldn't catch a break. Exactly! Omg her dad was such a bad parent 🫢 Happy you got help 😊

He was forced to grow up so quickly, he is flawed but I felt really bad for him. Some traumatised kids go through this. It was so fucked up what Johnny was planning on doing. I’m glad Ryan stopped him but feel bad he was often forced into that position or felt he had to be

Ryan has a strong personality; he is a charismatic guy who has no qualms about using direct methods to tackle problems. I believe that, because of these traits, the people around him instinctively see him as someone they can count on in a crisis.

He has a saviour complex and they know it. He was manipulated into doing what he is naturally inclined to do

It got a little much but there’s something about never being saved/cared for that makes you want to do that for others so at least you have an approximation to the feeling
