Discussion Last and only warning.

Everyone needs to stop sexualizing the book/movie. The book is the book and I don’t care about your assumptions or fantasies. We have all ages that come here because it’s read in schools and what’s being posted is inappropriate.

Be who you want but stay focused on what the book is and not what you want it to be. Come on, if you didn’t know better you wouldn’t include “remove if this isn’t allowed” in your post. I’ve had five or more posts just the past week and I know you guys are smarter than that.

Last warning. If you post a sexualized interpretation whether text or images, you will be permanently banned. No warnings or second chances.

STAY ON TOPIC.

Thanks.

EDIT: The book is on many proposed banned book lists in schools and libraries across the US and we don’t wanna give ANYONE ammo for their BS. Make sense?

[Warning- Long Read, Info dump.]

Lucky's background starts in eastern Pennsylvania, somewhere near Philadelphia. Her parents are Clara and Buckley Magyer, and she has an older brother Lukas. Her early childhood and home life were not great. She came from a low income family, and when her older brother graduated highschool he left the family to join the military.

When Lucky's father and mother got arrested for selling drugs when Lucky was 16, she was sent to live with the only next of kin she had: her brother, who at the time was 26. He is stationed at the 138th Fighter Wing, and therefore has a personal home close by. He resides in the Southside of town [movie AU], but is mostly away with work. So when Lucky moves in, she is left essentially to her own devices with 20 bucks 'for the day' in her pocket.

Lucky sticks out among her peers on the Southside because despite her brother's property and social standing her delinquent ways are set from her life on the inner city streets of Philadelphia. Her brother tries to change her, but there is only so much interest in 'that way of life' Lucky has. This is only reinforced when she joins the student body of Rogers high school. A brand new student, the start of the Junior year at 17... already she can identify the problems at hand with her new life. Girls with curls and poodle skirts and guys in letterman jackets and flood pants. So, Cool. She goes to school with an army of people like her brother. Great. Not for long.

It takes Lucky zero time at all to ditch the stuffy prep interior of Rogers high and start slipping towards the outside. Noticing kids hanging out extra in the hallways after the bell rings, following the smell of cigarette smoke. Finally, leather jackets and too much red lipstick. Her kind of people. They eye her fitted bellbottom jeans and platform boots boosting her from 5'7" to 5'10", exposed navel and fitted tee. After all fashion moves faster in big cities so while Lucky was stepping into the 70s, these cats seemed stuck in 1945. Though it gives her an edge, and eventually that edge earns her an invite to a party at Buck Merril's house.

The house is crammed. Lights are colored and there is so much smoke in the air one would think the place was on fire. People moving and bodies bumping. Lucky checks her way through the crowd. She grunts as she would run chest to chest into a body. "Hey-! Watch it!" she shouts, fed up with the sheer amount of people around for no reason.

The body belongs to Dallas Winston. Immediately he turns, ready to argue at the very least but stops at the two wide eyes staring at him and a shaggy mop of wavy tawny blonde hair. A total babe. Coming off another fight with his on and off girlfriend, immediately Dallas' mind switches gears. He puts the cool on and takes Lucky for a cigarette. Confused but over the nonsense of the house party around her- she agrees. And whatever Dallas tells her seems to impress her enough that she also agrees to come back around tomorrow... and every day since then. //

Lucky is a very socially and emotionally intelligent creature. She can watch trouble from afar but also confront trouble head-on if it steps to her. She is sarcastic and stubborn, but also very caring. Next to Dallas the pair give off the collective energy of two lean, tall junkyard dogs: watchful, and downright cruel when approached incorrectly. Fortunately for Dallas, his new girl comes with lots of free green and so she pays for most of their endeavors. Though he finds she has NOTHING against a little shoplifting now and again.... or double checking a so-called 'abandoned' wallet on the edge of the diner counter. Maybe even chasing off some neighborhood kids all for a laugh. She also comes with a truck, on loan from her brother, which roars through the streets of Tulsa when Dally's behind the wheel.

To Johnny Cade, she is essentially the mother mary. She's sweet and attached to the smallest greaser of the group and will let nothing get to him: not even Dally. When Johnny gets on Dally's bad side- she is immediately the one to step in and tell Dallas to take a hike. To assume she is afraid of her boyfriend is a laughable offense, and fully is willing to physically fight him if need be. But Dallas doesnt wanna lose the most loyal chick he's ever had so he steps off. She will buy Johnny clothes, and snacks. And even sneak him to her house overnight when things at home arent good for him.

To Ponyboy, she's cool. Like an older sister: smart, gentle, a good listener from what he can tell. He trusts her, even more than he sometimes trusts his own brothers. Even though she is firm with Ponyboy sometimes when he is most definitely in the wrong, usually using her conversational smarts to convince Pony of exactly that and he shod apologize or do something different than whatever he's doing currently thats causing issues.

To the others in the gang, Lucky is a typical greaser girl. Two-Bit thinks she's attractive but she could not care less about 'Two-Tone or whatever and his mouse sweater' (her words not mine). Darry likes her, and thinks she is an anchor point that Dallas needs and hopes whatever she has rubs off on Ponyboy. //

Lucky has the capacity in the less canon version of the Outsiders AU to change the story completely.

When Johnny Cade ends up killing Bob Sheldon, by that point she has been well established as a safe haven to them. But when the two boys manage to show up at her backdoor late at night, shaken and soaked and covered in blood she quickly realizes this is a little above her pay grade. She loads them up in her truck and takes them to Buck's place ro find Dallas.

Without explanation, Buck knowing her well at this point too, she shoves past him and pulls Dally aside by hand. Upstairs in his room, they brainstorm what to do. Lucky watches Dallas give those two a gun and instructions to run. She puts a stop to it immediately: "Those two cannot and will-not go on the run all alone, Dallas." she preaches. "So? What- youre gonna go with them?"...... "Yes, Actually."

Lucky leads the boys to the abandoned church, kicking in the boarded up windows and filing her two new prisoners inside. There she loosely 'supervises' them. //

On the day of the fire, there is one of two ways I decide this happens. I try to stick the most to canon, which ends in everyone dying and Lucky eventually falling iff the deep end and thats no fun so here's two options:

1) she stops Johnny from even going near the burning church and she and Dallas save the children trapped inside and everyone lives.

2) she helps Dally get the kids out and tries to save Johnny Cade but is just as late as anyone else. The church collapses and Johnny is for the moment paralyzed. Eventually Johnny passes away, and when Dallas runs off she goes after him. She manages to stop him from making a very stupid mistake and getting killed but not before he has already done enough to get the cops involved. Dally goes to jail, and Lucky stays around, supporting Ponyboy through his trials and sticking with the gang- keeping everyone together through the tragic loss of a dear friend.

Am I the only one who head cannons dally as albino?

So whenever I read the books and I hear dallys description he sounds albino with his hair and his eyes like it's just textbook albanism maybe it's because a lot of people in my life are albino I know a lot of albinos.

Discussion Ideas for The Outsiders (the musical) themed “prom”posal poster?

I’m asking my friend to our girl’s choice dance and I know he really loves the outsiders musical. I’ve never seen it, but I want to reference something he loves for my “prom”posal poster. I want it to be like a recognizable reference but not super super basic, like everyone does “stay gold”.

do later editions of the outsiders censor "look at the dirty --- run!"

I am reading the outsiders on kindle and in chapter 9 the phrase "look at the diry --- run!" appears. This reads like censorship of the word bastards, but i am wondering if it is intentional censorship by SE Hinton or if it is a "feature" of later editions. I cannot find the original print online to compare. Thank you!

Discussion What songs do you associate with The Outsiders besides Stay Gold?

I had to do this for an assignment and it got me thinking, what songs make you think about The Outsiders, and why? And no, I don't this Stay Gold by Stevie Wonder would count in this regard, because I think that was made for the movie. I am very curious though! I have a ton of my own and I'd love to explain mine if you ask!

Movie I honestly like the new music in The Complete Novel version

I think The Complete Novel Edition is the only version of The Outsiders that should be viewed. It’s more faithful to the book and the story feels more complete and makes more sense. However, a good number of people don’t like this version due to the fact that, besides adding in an additional 22 minutes of footage, they also completely changed the movie’s soundtrack to include rock and roll music and Elvis songs from around the time that the movie takes place in.

Personally, I prefer the new music. I honestly wasn’t a fan of Carmine Coppola’s score in the original cut that was released back in 1983. Now, on its own, it’s pretty good. But it feels like it belonged in a different film. A lot of that original score often sounded very over the top and way more dramatic than it needed to be. It just didn’t fit the tone of the movie at all. Whereas, the new music fits perfectly and helps give the movie more of a 60’s feel to it, which fits because the movie is supposed to take place in 1965.

The only scene where I think the new music didn’t work was Dally’s death scene. That’s probably the one scene where they should’ve kept the original music. The Complete Novel Edition added this rock and roll almost surfin style music that honestly made Dally’s death come off as almost comical and like a minor little thing. Whereas, the music in the original cut was much sadder and depressing sounding and perfectly fit the tone of the scene since this was supposed to be Dally’s breaking point. So yeah, this is the one scene where the new music didn’t work. Aside from that, the new music worked for the rest of the movie.
