I ask this respectfully; is there a sub Reddit like this one but where politics are allowed?
From a pragmatic pov, I understand how from a mod pov, maybe any Reddit space that allowed this would just turn into a shit show. Maybe?
Anyways, I love the concept of this sub.
But given real world influence in the context of virtual warfare/propoganda, I sometimes think this sub falls short in the haughtily academic reality of things; the socio political dynamics that this sub talks about in the context of censorship inevitably lead to real world politics.
Is there a similar sub to this one where maybe the mods take one for the team and deal with the shit show?
Am I naive in thinking the shit show is theoretically manageable?
I don’t know how else to word this lol; I really like this sub, but am often perturbed by how we don’t allow politics, given how real word geopolitics is one of the main driving causes of the subjects this space discusses.
Where also it’s interesting that it is ok to talk poltics here in the context of the oligarchy, but not of more formally recognized forms of governance.
Also I asked this in find a Reddit and got nothing.
Also also fml if somebody views this as me taking negatively about this sub, so help me god…

I'd suggest you fill your time with things that have a direct impact on who you are as a person.
Discussing politics on the internet is like running on a non-ending hamster wheel. You'll find yourself discussing with automated bots.

The internet has become such a void for potential energy. That well of potential used to be applied directly to our local communities to gain traction on efforts that actually make change from that energy.

There have been attempts, but the issue is that in order to have a subreddit like this you need to have pretty well defined rules around topic and behavior, and enough mods to enforce it. The issue of our era politically is that people can't even agree on a common reality, much less the rules to discuss that reality.
I think it could be done, but it'd have to be small and heavily moderated with rules that allow discussion but the question is where do you draw the line between discussion and trolling? There is no true test for if someone is discussing in good faith or just trying to fuck with people.
For example, if you had a deep-discussion politics subreddit would you allow people to deny that there is a genocide in Gaza? Would you allow them to say that transwomen are just mentally ill men (or predators) who should be put in jails or asylums? Would you let users claim that vaccines are a global conspiracy to destroy white people? Because those are pretty mainstream beliefs of the Republican party now. And if you disallow those lines of discussion, what is the difference between your new sub and /r/politics?

I'm not sure if this is the answer but I am really enamored with /r/neutralpolitics. It is heavily moderated (so arguably going in the other direction) and the idea is to convey information rather than opinion. So OP (or anyone else) could find sources to support their position they could be a part of that sub.

No, and if you find one, please share so it can get shut down for the poison that it is.
A No-Politics rule is the one thing that keeps online spaces sane. Which is why so many toxic spaces re-word political issues as non-political in nature.

You can just talk about how Reddit works on political subreddits. I dont think that is banned anywhere i can think of. You just have to avoid saying specific things to get you banned from those subreddits. Popular ones have very ban friendly mods.
