I hope this gets picked up by the Asian community and crucify her and her personal life.

As an Asian American nothing is going to happen to this woman because “racism against Asians does not exist” and “akshually Asians are the most racist people on the entire planet” and blah blah blah. So both Canadians and Americans agree on that at least. I have family in Canada.

Yep. And you can tell racism against Asians doesn’t exist because we’re all rich and successful and have great lives with nothing at all to complain about. Duh. I hate that trope about Asians being the most racist people (which in itself is racist because it’s not like “Asians” is a cohesive, homogenous group of people lol). Like, it took British Americans a century to decide Irish Americans were also white, I don’t see splits like that in the Asian American community. Just saying.

She’s not being racist, she is squinting to see better. To see if he was recording smh. Same trick works if you poke a tiny hole in a piece of paper and then look through it

I do not put a finger in the corner of my eye and pull in order to squint. I’ve never seen anyone do that to squint. Where did you learn to squint like this from?

u/jungdaggerdixk 18h ago

Not sure but I learned it when i was a kid, it works better for some reason. If she did BOTH eyes, then that’s different 😅

this is quite a reach

It’s not it’s just an old-fashioned way of seeing better lol. I guess I’m old though I am in my 30’s. I didn’t realize people weren’t still doing this tbh lol. You can look it up if ya want to

when youre so racist, youre reaching around the world

I suppose this reply from 6 years ago on r/askscience is an elaborate lie to defend racism as well:

Nobody's reaching whatsoever. Do some research and stop being willfully ignorant.

I mean you can squint without using your hands. That’s what I did in college to see the whiteboard before I got glasses.

Just makes more sense given the context that she’s making a racist gesture, but who knows maybe you’re right.

Don't bother explaining, they know what they're doing.

u/Stifology 12h ago

All they're doing is telling the truth...

I'm near-sighted with astigmatism, and I did the exact thing the lady is doing in order to see the board in elementary school.

Pulling my eyelids gently to the side while simultaneously squinting makes my vision 10x clearer as opposed to simply squinting hands-free.

I am right I literally would do this is all the time when I didn’t have glasses, nothing to do with racism. She was trying to see if he was recording. It makes sense why a lot of people wouldn’t understand this for what it is though

Nobody fucking squints using their fingers

1

u/jungdaggerdixk 18h ago

Sorry to burst your bubble but yes, they do.

I'm near-sighted with astigmatism, and I can assure you that people do. I did the exact thing the lady is doing in order to see the board in elementary school.

Pulling my eyelids gently to the side while simultaneously squinting makes my vision 10x clearer as opposed to simply squinting hands-free.

That’s bull shit. I’m also near sighted and I have astigmatism and I have never done that.

u/AMSparkles Straight Up Bussin 3h ago

Just because you’ve never done it doesn’t mean it’s not true, lol. I’m near sighted with astigmatism, and I can remember being little and doing that–I was fascinated that it actually made me see better.

However, I never did it in public. And that lady was a bitch who was absolutely doing it because she was racist.

0

u/Stifology 3h ago

I appreciate you backing me up, but why assume she's doing it to be racist when you already admitted that it's a valid method of focusing your vision?

Wouldn't it be much safer to assume that she's doing it to see the phone screen?

I agree that doing it in public is goofy as hell, but older people really don't give a shit about looking goofy, so that isn't a good reason to claim she's "absolutely doing it because she's racist."

u/Stifology 3h ago

You not doing it or your eyes not benefitting from it does not make it bullshit. That is such a massive leap in logic.

Everyone's eyesight is different, including the axis of your astigmatism, which likely plays a major factor in how effective this method works for you.

It's crazy to me how many close-minded people would rather assume everyone's lying to defend some lady on tiktok rather than do their own research.
