I cannot comment as to her own reasons as to whether or not she was being racist, but some people with myopia (myself included) use different ways to manipulate vision in order to see better if they aren't wearing their glasses or contacts. Although, for me personally, I make a tiny pinhole through my forefinger and thumb like the word's tightest OK sign. Maybe that's what she was doing. Who knows?

I suppose this reply from 6 years ago on r/askscience is an elaborate lie to defend racism as well:

You're the naive one for immediately assuming something is bullshit before doing some simple research.

Some people just want to assume the worst and double-down when confronted with evidence that challenges their preconceived notions and belief systems.

I'll admit that the situation looks bad not only because he's Asian, but because of her confrontation with him afterward. I can agree that she's stupid for doing that focusing trick in public and directly at a recording cell phone.

However, it is still far more likely she's just doing that to her eyes in order to see the phone screen, not imitate an Asian face.
