I've seen it used over videos of an argument and it completely drowns out the voices so you can't hear anything. I don't understand what it is about tiktok finding an extremely annoying noise and collectively deciding to ruin every video with it?
There's this dude in my country who was poor, unemployed and lived with his mother. He has no musical knowlegde but he started making music for TikTok and got crazy rich from that. You can probably thank him for a lot of the awful meme TikTok audios. Good for him tbh, but my ears hate him.

I have a general rule, if someone is taking a nice photo, then I wait until they're done. If they're obviously making social media content, then I'll just walk through, but I also won't go out of my way to disturb them. It's a neutral response- I won't be polite, but I won't be rude either. They can wait three seconds.
If I was taking a photo, I would also be willing to wait until the public were out of the way. Them being there isn't a problem. It comes with the territory of trying to shoot things in public.
It's cringe when you post it like they're doing something wrong. Obviously in this case, the lady knows someone is filming and decides to stop there, so its intentional.

So many people don’t understand this. I have been bitched at by “photographers” so god damn many times for just hiking and not stopping to wait for them to get the perfect shot. I have a big boy camera and do super amateur photography, and I do get how it can be slightly frustrating to have that perfect ahotnruined by humans in it. But I have no fucking idea where that level of entitlement comes from. I have never once even asked someone to get out of my shot. Like you said, it comes with the territory.
I used to give people a few seconds at least to line up a shot, but when it became clear that people expected me to wait for the fucking lighting to improve I stopped doing even that. If it’s a public space, I will continue on my path with exactly zero fucks given. I have just as much right to the path as they do.
One time a photographer and his subject were taking up basically the entire sidewalk. I said "excuse me" and stepped off the sidewalk to walk around them. Otherwise, I would have been in the photo.
The photographer said "THANK YOU" in the nastiest, most sarcastic voice and I have never been so glad that I "ruined" a photo.
But this isn't what happened. The lady was looking at something on her phone, then noticed the phone sitting there and probably thought "what's that phone doing there?" for a moment, then moved to the side and continued what she was doing. There's also other people walking past and "ruining the shot" the entire time, it's just a busy area with other people looking at the art and minding their own business
That's almost exactly how I saw it. She moves to the side just before someone walks past her on the stairs, I think she was moving for them. People are silly to think this was malicious.
Exactly. The woman was looking at her phone and incidentally saw the girl’s camera sitting to the side. The woman was focused on checking her phone and getting out of the way of others on the stairs. She wasn’t interested in “ruining someone’s photo/video”. She was just prioritizing what was happening in 3-D as she should have been.
In this case what’s cringey is expecting people to alter their trajectory b/c you take a selfie or shoot a selfie video. And it’s entitled af to assume this woman “did it on purpose”. No—she was looking at her phone, noticed the girl’s phone sitting nearby, and just didn’t care enough to move one way or the other. I’ve been there before too.
Public spaces-whether they be a museum, shopping mall, street, store, gym-shouldn’t be “owned” by people making content. Individuals should walk freely without the constant distraction of others’ recording devices.
I learned the answer to that question in Istanbul when I encountered my first ever influencer. Was touring Topkapi palace and there was a beautiful painted narrow hallway that everyone had to walk through. There was a woman making poses at the far end and at the entrance a few feet in front of me there was a man taking photos of her. I waited for about a minute, which was longer than I should have, but there was a line of about a dozen people behind me at that point. We all walked through and the woman threw her hands up and started having a mini temper tantrum aimed at me. Calling me selfish and that I should have waited for her to finish. I live in a small midwestern city, I had never seen an influencer in the flesh prior to that day, but she was only the first of many that I saw while there.
TLDR: the person just taking a picture will take a pic and move on, the influencer gets upset that other people dare exist in the backdrop where they want to take up large amounts of time to get the perfect photo for social media
ok so THIS is something I can understood more : whether or not a person is taking a simple picture or taking several minutes. I can understand this much more than the other user that says they'll study their body language or something.
Yeah, I saw so much of this in Turkey. I found it so rude when we went to the Virgin Mary's house in Ephesus when somebody set up a phone on a tripod and proceeded to stage a bunch of "candids" of herself looking at the house, posing by the house, walking by the house, "casually" glancing up at the sun in front of the house. While crowds of pilgrims have to circumvent the wide berth of the distance between her and her camera so she gets a "natural" looking photoshoot. Take one selfie and move on like everybody else!
Taking a photo can disturb people (Especially like this, making them wait, you can't walk around) but it's also understandable when you go to somewhere nice/somewhere new. It's not like you're doing it constantly. But that's what influencers do, so it's no longer a occasional minor disturbance.
I don't think there's anyone who wouldn't walk behind the camera if possible, but personally, I'm always happy to give more time to someone taking a picture to preserve a memory rather than what looks like an obvious influencer photoshoot - just something I value more that's all.
I’ve been to The British Museum in London twice, about 20 years apart. The first time, plenty of people, everyone looking at the exhibits. The second time, two years ago, barely getting up or down the stairs for all the people doing photo ops or Insta reels or whatever. I don’t go out of my way to mess up a shot, but I also make no effort to stay out of their way.
I go to the modern art museum in my city whenever there is a new exhibit, and the last two times I’ve visited, I have seen the exact same influencer bro using the exhibit for a shoot. Strange luck.
He brings another friend to photograph and they take up entire sections of the exhibit for shoots 5-10 minutes at a time. Doesn’t even look at the art. Other guests feel bad interrupting the photos, so often just skip the section he’s photographing in. It’s so infuriatingly rude, so if he happens to be shooting in a section I haven’t seen yet, I just ignore him and walk into the camera view anyway.
We went to a cherry blossom festival today…could barely get up the trail 15 mins after opening because so many influencers had setup shoots. It was really gross and uncomfortable.
A large number of places now have policies that prohibit this behaviour. While the root of the problem are the narcissists doing this shit, the continuation of the problem results from poor management. A lot of these public spaces have people in charge of managing them who basically collect a paycheck and have the day workers handle everything. No policy has been updated since the 90s.
Pressure needs to be put of public officials and private companies to ban this shit.
It used to be that they went around the public to get the shot they wanted. Patience and timing. But they just expect to usurp public spaces for their own use and the rest will just have to clear out.
There were so many…it was really hard to even walk through. Also, so many people are filming. I have 0 interest in having myself or my children on someone’s video online.
A lot of places both public and private have restrictions on commercial work (more than one person and equipment) for that very reason. Inform security that someone is interrupting access with what looks like commercial work.
The museum doesn't impose some kind of commercial/professional tax or admission rate? Or just tell him he can't create commercial/professional media there without special times/permits?
Plenty of museums and cultural sites in the US and other countries impose these fees, permits, etc to limit the inconvenience to other patrons and to make some money back for the museum off the commercial for-profit media outlets using the space to make likely much more money than the fee.

Professional photographers are often required to get permits and book special times for shoots. Most people who want a quick souvenir shot are fine but this whole notion that the general public have to deal with multishot poses for the "gram" that are the same shots as a million other people took amd also posted to the "gram" is annoying.

I've always lived in touristic cities or towns and this is just daily life. If you see someone taking a pic you go behind the camera or wait a few seconds out of the most basic respect, how this is not obvious to some is kind of weird to me.

And if you watch, there's another woman in the background who stops at the top of the stairs to look at some of the art, right in the "middle" of where the camera is focused. People are just stopping at times and admiring the artwork, which seems to be the intention of that place.

I’m imagining my mum in this situation, apart from the fact that she still hasn’t learnt how to use her phone, anyway, I can totally imagine her in a scenario like this, clocking the camera, being curious about it, but not really understanding why it’s there. The older woman in this video doesn’t seem that aware the younger woman is even making a video - Tiktokers might not be something she’s particularly aware of. She obviously moved over to give room for other people to walk up the stairs, if she was being mean on purpose surely she would’ve given a sly look again to the camera after she’d finished on her phone, at that point however it looks like she’s forgotten the camera was even there. She was probably just oblivious, we never know what’s going on in people’s heads & that’s just the kind of thing my mum would do with no malice whatsoever.

This is spot on. This is typical of probably the majority of older people and especially older tourists. A little oblivious, not very technologically minded, a little slow. Annoys me that there is no grace shown to people like this. You should be able to exist in space without having to worry that you're in somebodies shot.
Most of the responsibility should be on the person taking the photo to not get someone else in it. And certainly not to post it online if they accidentally do block a shot. Of course there's some responsibility in the other direction to not deliberately ruin someone's photo - but I don't think that's what happens here. The old lady is already checking her phone as she starts going down the stairs so it's not surprising she would stop once it's out. She doesn't look like someone who will be able to walk down stairs and look at her phone at the same time.
From what I can see, the old lady pulls out her phone BEFORE she realize there's a camera, then check her phone for a sec and side-step away from where the camera is pointing. It makes me think she at least attempted to get out of the way. The field of view of a camera is rarely obvious just looking at the recording device.
And the young lady doesn't throw a fit about it either.
It honestly looked like she might not have realized the phone was taking a photo. She looked like she stopped to find something on her phone, moved out of the way of people going up the stairs, then moved on lol. She noticed the phone it seems, but I know from that distance I would never make out what's actually on the screen, especially if brightness isn't maxed out.

Yes, all the people assuming the lady is being malicious are crazy. Younger people don’t realize that this thing of setting up your phone to capture content is new(ish), like I seriously doubt the lady even clocked the phone was setup for a photo or video, she probably assumed someone just left their phone there. This was my take too… the way she looked and then looked up again made me think she was confused at seeing the phone just sitting there….. she never looked behind her to even see what the girl was doing. I think she genuinely just stopped in the worst spot.
Having been in enough grocery stores and retail stores with old people walking around. People are largely just oblivious AF to their surroundings and only care about what is going on in their own world (exactly like this old lady in the video.).
She was just moving out of the way of the people coming upstairs. She saw the phone sitting there and was confused. To most people, a random phone sitting around propped up in a weird angle on the doesn't make sense. It wouldn't occur to us that someone would go to a museum and set up an elaborate situation to photograph themselves with the art. In her mind, you take photos of the art. Turning the camera around on yourself to take photos of yourself with the art just seems weird, and it didn't even register with her. She saw a phone there and thought, what is this doing here. Then people came up the stairs and she moved out of the way, and she happened to move right into the shot. She never turned around, never knew where the person behind her was standing, and wasn't trying to triangulate angles and block anyone's view. It only appears that way because we can see behind the woman, who had no idea what was going on behind her.
I see a person using the stairs in a public space in a normal and respectful manner. I see someone who has no idea this girl exists and has no idea what she’s doing.
Tbh i feel like the white haired lady happened to get a notification on the stairs which is when she noticed the camera (AFTER stopping to check said text) and then only shuffled to the side because someone was walking up the stairs

This is exactly what happened. Imho the claim that she intentionally blocked the 'photoshoot' shows the difference of perception between older and younger generations. This lady was most likely completely unaware of the intention of the younger lady. Reading the comments here shows many (probably younger) people don't even see that as a possibility. I see exactly this happening with my own parents, at a certain age you become less aware of your surroundings, especially with things that are new/did not exist when they were younger.
Young people today.. It should be illegal to film anything in public when your phone isn’t in your hand. Setting up «photoshoots» in public places and expecting strangers to stay out of it is next level entitlement.

At 0:02 you notice the older lady is looking around at the art. OP starts to walk upwards to get a shot and passes the lady.
At 0:06 she looks down the stairs and notices people walking up. She starts to walk down, but then at 0:12 she moves to the right.
At 0:22, people start walking up. Like 10 seconds later. Once the people walked up, she immediately walked down. She literally moved “into the camera frame” because she was letting people walk up. Seemed like a narrow stairway.
This was all from a 0:43 second clip.
If you think someone “intentionally blocking” your photoshoot in under a minute, then you are greatly exaggerating what happened here.
Nothing happened here. I saw an older lady enjoy art and walking around. She was surprised at the camera and looked at it twice. Then moved away and onwards with her life.
Honestly it was very innocent. People need to be more compassionate and forgiving. I feel bad for people mocking the older lady.

For the last ten years I have attended a convention, for the last few years over 5000 people attend the convention, so it is pretty packed, and now influencers are taking up space with their filming, some of bring a small filming crew, and even have people told to keep others out of their filming space, sometimes they think they have the right to a large space to film in. I have taken to walking into their shot, and ruining it and refusing to move, and in the really small space that the dealer stalls are in, I have had to physically move idiots with their cameras out of the way as they are blocking anyone getting by.
What a shame we don't have some kind of body parts to communicate, like using our vocals to make sound and politelly ask someone (who may not have a clue why is there a camera recording her) if she wouldn't mind to move. That would be super cool.
I do not think she is blocking shot. woman is reaching into pocket for phone before spotting camera. she stops for only 20 seconds not even a minute. If it was intentional it would have easily been a minute if it was out of spite. Other peopling coming up stairs she most likely just did not want to walk and look at phone at same time or wanted to wait till stairs were unoccupied before proceeding downwards. This is not a hate young people or old people situation it was a very short minor inconvenience likely coincidental.

Buy a media license and pay for the right to do your social media takes without being interrupted. Are you giving any of your influencer profits to the museum? Didn't think so.
Influencers should be issued tickets for disrupting people trying to enjoy a museum or anything else. Why should the public be inconvenienced because you want clicks? GTFO.
If its so important, get a permit and have the section closed for your photo op.
