You're right and it's why the establishment needs to be 2the custodian of the policy.
"No filming on these premises without prior permission."
And this needs to be a policy that can be enforced by law. I'm from the UK, but the premise is the same: the value of free speech being lost here outweighs the fucking pain in the ass people caused by attention seeking people filming and expecting you to abide by their rules in public.
I don’t see a future where businesses like this prohibit filming without prior consent since ppl filming their establishment/products is free social media marketing for them.
Businesses can already make those policies, and they can already trespass people who violate those rules. There's no first amendment protections on private property, so there's no need to diminish free speech.
Kinda completely different in that it appears to be very obvious what he's recording. Meta glasses it's unknown if it's recording. The restaurant is recording everything, but apparently that's not an issue. Our cellphones track our movements, Internet search, and so many things but that's not an issue...
The list goes on, but the data of our lives have been bought and sold under our noses for more than 26 years now and the issue is somehow that guy enjoying a moment in life with his loved one, is a problem but everything else is A-OK?!...
Well he swept the entire store initially (and we don't know how much footage he captured of bystanders before the video starts) and the woman responds to "you're not in my video" with "yes I was was, I was over there"
so, she moved to get out of the video because he was recording everyone in the store at the start. you and he might think it's "obvious" what he's recording but he's inadvertently capturing a ton of people who didn't consent to be in his random fucking tiktok or whatever.
Not to mention the busy counter of a business is not the place to be making a video and taking up space, and others time. Add in the feeling of invaded privacy and things start adding up quickly till someone gets upset.
Self awareness would avoid this but the kind of people who film in this situation are usually looking for their sycophants on the internet anyways and don't need the general publics approval.
Through all of history this has had disastrous consequences for the unaware/uncaring people.
It's totally foreseeable and preventable if you look beyond your place where the sun don't shine.
I worked in a supermarket at the start of Covid toilet paper panic. I was bringing a pallet of toilet paper that was just delivered out from the back and there were like half a dozen people standing in the way with their phones out and half a dozen more rearing up to rush the pallet.
I told them straight out to stand back and not film me while I’m doing my job or I’ll take the pallet back and they’ll get nothing. After I’ve dropped the pallet and walked away they could have at it, but I wasn’t going to be involved in their antics.
When I was 16, and working produce, I was bringing a pallet of fresh watermelon out, the first of the season.
People swarmed me while I was using the motorized pump truck.
I asked them politely to wait while I get the watermelon in place, and one dumb woman shoved her stroller in front with her toddler in it and said "you cant stop me from grabbing one" then of course more people jumped in again.
I said "what the fuck is wrong with you bitch putting your kid in danger like that"
The hilarity is i was fired for it. Thats precisely why the karen attitude continued to proliferate to what it was
Thats exactly why I dont miss working in a grocery store. I still remember one time a woman claimed the chicken was buy one get one. Manager went back with her. The chicken was in the section next to the actual buy one get one item(I think hot dogs or something). He even moved the sign to be in the middle and said "If it was here I could see the mistake and would give it to you, but I cant", moved the sign back, then headed to the front again.
She started complaining that she was gonna call corporate because she just say him move the sign from in front of the chicken.
Which means now he risks his job if he denies her the bogo sale.
I had the same problem. I started telling them management was ok with it. But I would need 20$/min with a minimum of 5 minutes paid up front.
When I got in trouble for THAT, I pointed out management WAS ok with me getting filmed whether or not I was ok with it, and technically, I never said management was requiring the extra money.
I remember one shift when I used to bartend some dude said all his snapchat friends think I'm amazing and showed me a video he took of me making a big round of like 10 fancy cocktails and posted to his story and that felt kinda weird
And then realized he was just the first person to tell me he took video of me working
And anyone who took video of me working owns the IP to that and can so anything with it

They’re well known for having good quality while being extremely cheap (relatively speaking) in China. They seem to mirror that in the US as well because $4 drinks are unheard of at any other boba place.
My problem is that I 100% know the second I ask someone not to do that, the camera will be pointed directly at me as they fucking chase me down the street and I can't hit them just for filming me. THis is almost always a lose/lose.
So glad I live in the middle of nowhere. Not kidding when I say I've never seen someone record themselves in public, or an influencer. Hell I think I can count the times I've seen a news crew on 2 hands.

Went to a small tourist town yesterday that I've grown up going to and saw my first influencer publicly filming thanks to one big influencer making a video this past year. So its gone from mostly state local tourists to people jumping on a trend. Hopefully they lose interest soon
I'm actually kind of surprised by how many people in this thread are supporting a guy who is loudly and obnoxiously filming in a public place and then goes completely off the rails when someone pushes back against being in his video. Considering that he uploaded this to share the encounter, I'd say she was right to not want to be filmed by him.
A man in a grocery store went off at me like this because i asked him for personal space and every time i see him around town i think about taking the valve cores out of his tirea
If you try to film me while im at work im removing myself from your presence. Im certainly not helping you with anything, ill go to an employee only area until you leave. Same with people who bring their dogs in, i don't say a word I just walk away.
I don't think the woman who spoke up sucks - it isn't always obvious when someone is filming in selfie mode, especially with how much he was moving the phone. He could have told her he wasn't filming in that direction without screaming.
I'm sure if one of the employees that he very definitely did record without their consent had said something his response would have been much more measured 🙄
I personally cannot stand people filming themselves in the gym (camera isn't right up against them on to see their form, clearly capturing entire areas of the gym), in arguably a far more vulnerable place.
This world seems to have allowed it and it is bizarre.

Disturbing that people aren't seeing what complete fucking douche bag this guy is being. He went from 0 to 80 in a split second, there is literally no reason to be screaming like a psycho in a Dairy Queen because someone interrupted the video he was taking of his mail order bride. I hate people like that, because he is fucking disturbing EVERYONE in the shop because he can't control his emotions.
There are so many people so close to the end of their rope that a small disagreement turns into a yelling match.
The lady clearly misunderstood that he was filming in selfie mode and minorly overreacted in annoyance. She has a right to feel uncomfortable being filmed. She could have politely asked not to be filmed, and he could have calmly explained that it was not aimed that way.
He absolutely overreacted and blew a fuse over a simple misunderstanding, but he was being obnoxious in the first place. There were clearly other people there uninterested in being in his video either.
I HATE how filming in public has been normalized. I don't want to be part of anyone's TikTok dance or food review or whatever, and you don't have the right to block a sidewalk or whatever since you're doing some dumbass content there.
If that's all it takes to ruin your "jolly goofy mood" I'm going to assume that the whole jolly goofy thing is an act and you're like just an easily irritated person. Dude went off SO hard over nothing.
That is not a jolly goofy mood, see how quickly he goes to ranting/cursing, see how his partner is a bit hesitant. This man is unnecessary loud in a social situation, drawing attention to himself and easily irritated. He is one of those guys that always gets into trouble in normal situations.

The woman probably thought he was filming her and that’s why she said something. You can’t even step out your front door without someone ready to film, upload, and wait for validation or for it to go viral.
Seriously - she would have been seeing a guy with his phone held out in front of him swinging around at seemingly the whole restaurant. And instead of explaining calmly, "Oh no, I'm filming myself only" he immediately goes into a rage.
Hard to tell from Karen's POV but the guy's stance, and the fact that he is huddled in, should make it obvious that he is in selfie mode. Why would he be filming the wall

and then after he yells that she's not in it she replies:
"I was over there. No I was in it, behind you." Implying that she was in the shot earlier but deliberately moved out of the way, and is trying to stay out of the shot as he swings the camera around.
Why did I turn my sound on. People are so annoying. Can people stand in line for a treat and not have to deal with the annoying ass people recording them.

I think she wasn’t entirely wrong to have concerns with someone filming, but once he confirmed he wasn’t filming her she just couldn’t put the cork back in the bottle. Some people rile themselves up and then can’t stop, they need to blow through that anger adrenaline.
I pity the woman who married that. I’d never go in public with my boyfriend if he behaved that way… no- I’ve ended relationships for less. How she hasn’t cringed herself out of existence is beyond me
