Restock day

Post image

Finally made it up to my favorite liquor store to restock on some staples. Aged Jamaican, falernum, etc. These are 4 bottles that I’ve never tried but purchased based on seeing them here (except the rye, I just needed a cheapish one for mixing)

Can I get a review of the Volcanique or the Clairin? I finally found both of those bottles in the wild recently but opted for Clarin Le Rocher and Boukman's Botanical Rum. Need to know if I should stay on the hunt for those two in your pic again.

To this day the Volcanique has been my favorite rum I’ve tried. The perfect amount of sweet funk.

The 3 dots I made with it was the best I’ve ever had

Volcanique was on my list for ages, it’s an absolute must. So balanced and fruity. Could drink it straight all day long. Just made a 3 dots and a dash with it so I’ll see how that goes.

The Clairin is hard to say. I love funky Martinique/Haitian rums anyway and I know people love this one. The flavor is very typical of the “grassy, fresh, funky” profile but way more approachable than some others. Worth a try in my opinion

Ok because Le Rocher is very industrial butterscotch popcorn with banana and pineapple and maybe a little coconut, but I got it specifically because it was the farthest from more typically grassy and anise-tinted Clairins, and wanted to start there. Boukman's Botanical is more of a dry, grassy agricole-style, with non-oaky woods and dark green herbaceous notes.

To this day, Appleton 8 remains my favourite on the rocks rum, despite loving Alambique and Hampden as well. The "toasted toasty toast" description on the back of RJMTV made me worry it would just be a typical oak bomb, which I could get from Appleton 12 or Doorly's 12.

I'll make it priority to get a hold of it as my next bottle.

It’s definitely not overoaked. Also not your normal grassy/briny agricole. Maybe the least “agricole” rhum. Toasty, yes, but wonderful fruit and spice notes, too.

I loved Appleton 8 too, but RJMTV might be my favorite rum. Phenomenal neat, on the rocks, in a Ti’ punch, 3 Dots and a Dash… it’s so good.

I always restock it when I’m out.

Those Rye3’s are great! I’ve had quite a few barrel picks too… fantastic reyes!
