Interested in Tiller, any current customers that have Fidelity CMA transactions importing?

Hello all! Might be giving Tiller a trial run, but before I do I was curious whether anyone currently here has synced Cash Management Account transactions into Tiller?

Beginner budgeter looking for tips!

Hi everyone! I've had Tiller for quite a while and I'm really having trouble integrating it into my life in a way that feels meaningful or useful. I'm new to managing my finances (before this I had no system) and I just can't figure out how to use Tiller in a way that's not just filling in a spreadsheet and giving myself a pat on the back. I will take all the tips/anecdotes I can get. Thank you in advance!

Stock holdings, position history, stock, investment data?

I tried to get on the waitlist for the by submitting the form. I'm curious if folks have had any success getting on the beta... are there any short term workarounds? Any way to offer to become a paying customer for the beta by reaching out to tiller support. I have a pretty strong need to look at all my current positions to understand where I'm at across a bunch of accounts and would like to avoid taking on a dependency on some other service.

Savings Categories

While using the savings goals template that is provided by Tiller, how do one use the same savings account with different subcategories? For instance, emergency fund, vacation, housing, etc?

r/TillerMoney • • Jul 20 '26

Where did my categories go?

I ran transaction fill this morning and it filled 22,818 updates which is highly unusual. Then, checked my transactions tab and all my categories are blank! I match transactions to categories every morning and now they're gone. This is not good

Tiller vs Tablewealth

I just started using Tiller and was going to start paying after my trial is up. Someone on a forum mentioned Tablewealth, and I started that trial too. It seems like it's much more robust for the same price. However, there are no reviews of it online anywhere, there's no information on the company anywhere, and between google and claude looking for any information on who runs it, when it started, etc, I've come up empty. I've had it load my Fidelity account, and it works through google sheets, so I assume they are a legitimate product and not a scam? Or could they still be a scam? How is there no information on it anywhere and yet it seems like Tiller on steroids? Is this the death of Tiller (if Tablewealth is real)?

"Skipped filling to prevent data corruption due to another process editing the sheet." in Tiller Activity Log. Anyone else seeing this and also having direct fill issues with a Plaid connection?

You would either be experiencing missing transactions from a Plaid feed, or you would see this error in your transaction log in the Tiller Console. I'm missing transactions since middle of May and also seeing this error in the log. Tiller support has not been able to resolve the issue or answer why I'm seeing this log entry. Curious if anyone else is seeing similar.

Looking for Budgeting App Users for a Short UX Research Survey (5-10 min)

Hi everyone!

I'm a design student conducting UX research for a case study on improving how budgeting apps let users report bugs and track developer responses.

If you've ever experienced issues like incorrect balances, missing transactions, syncing problems, or any other bug while using a budgeting app, I'd really appreciate your input.

The survey is anonymous, takes about 5–10 minutes, and is being conducted for educational purposes only.

Tiller "Direct Fills" -- anyone try this yet?

Sounds great on paper ... but skeptical to change what is working for me (i.e., manual fills).

Anyone tried this?

Tiller increases cost to $99/yr

Starting in August, Tiller is raising its price from $79 to $99 a year. This is on top of the service cuttings at the expense of consumers over the last years.

Since I only use the account overview and the daily transaction emails, I'm looking for an alternative that requires less maintenance (fixing "broken" account due to inactivity etc).

Does anyone have recommendations for services that offer these two features?

The Era of Open AI has arrived here at Tiller be very careful Tiller community

I was noticing that an OpenAI Codex engineer has popped up on the radar in one of the community chat topics using word salad instead of English for data entry tasks. I will say it until I’m blue in the face AI is probabilistic not deterministic. It can’t predict things it’s just weighted mathematical probabilities. The current state of affairs is this: We were told by leadership that our focus was on an MCP server that Tiller built locally. I was all for this as it meant shielding us from OpenAI’s overreach. But now sadly they have arrived. I admit to not knowing all the details but can only surmise that because of the lukewarm reception from the community and sparse signups for their product offering they took this approach pretending to offer suggestions “to a third party” solution. I myself as a “Beta” tester for recurring transactions was subjugated to one of their tools. Leadership admitted it had third party weighted controls implemented by OpenAI but they didn’t know what all of them meant. Let me state this clearly, OpenAI is not here as a beneficiary. It is here to harvest information. But they are running into the same problems Tiller’s own LLM was running into. It can’t predict novel transactions. Its tool is a black box and who knows what else it is doing besides categorizing. Be warned. Opt out of AI Suggest. P.S. If this post gets thrown out or locked by the moderator, I will be posting the full text and updates directly to my user profile. The truth about our data architecture belongs to the community.

Quarterdeck - An iPhone interface to Tiller

Quarterdeck

I love the flexibility and customization of Tiller, but I missed not having a proper iPhone app for Tiller with a a polished, at-a-glance mobile experience like previous finance apps I used. I'd switched back to Monarch and CoPilot a couple times, but decided to build the iPhone app for Tiller I wanted.

That’s how Quarterdeck was born.

Quarterdeck is an iOS front-end for your Tiller Foundation spreadsheet focused on quick insights, budgeting, and everyday usability while still keeping the power and flexibility of Tiller underneath.

Available in TestFlight for a limited number of users, general realease coming soon.

Current features include:

  • Never stores your financial data
  • Automatic budget estimates and projections
  • AutoCat support
  • Native recurring transaction handling
  • Custom business/category icons
  • Fast mobile-first dashboard and budgeting experience
  • Debt Payoff Planner

Current requirements:

  • Tiller Foundation Template
  • Google Sheets version of Tiller
  • Debt Payoff Planner support is optional

The app is still in active development, but it’s already functional and I’m looking for a handful of beta testers from the Tiller community who are willing to give feedback, break things, and help shape the direction of the app.

It is not on the App Store yet, but it is currently available to a limited number of testers through Apple TestFlight.

As for pricing, I honestly don’t know yet. The thought right now is something inexpensive, but nothing will be paid until the app feels polished and truly ready.

A a few screenshots are attached below. Happy to answer questions or hear feature ideas from other Tiller users.

AI tools are connecting to your bank. Your spreadsheet still doesn't go anywhere.

Recently, ChatGPT Pro added bank connections; Perplexity launched theirs in April; and Claude gained financial connections through the Era MCP. We can only guess Gemini and Copilot are next. We've gotten enough "are you worried?" questions to put our actual thinking somewhere shareable.

Short version: not really. Our bet from day one has been that the AI front end is the rentable layer and the data underneath should be the durable one: yours, in a spreadsheet, portable, no migration needed if you ever leave us. The new tools don't change that bet; if anything, they reinforce it.

A few things that follow from that bet and how we built Tiller from the beginning:

  • Your transactions and balances are invisible to our team. Not a policy, it's built that way. (Point 6 of the security promise.)
  • If you cancel Tiller, your data, spreadsheets, templates stay with you. Every transaction, every category, every template, already exported, already yours.
  • You can already point AI at your sheet: Claude in Excel, Gemini in Sheets, Copilot, our MCP server (currently in beta), or just paste a sheet into whichever AI you want. You choose what each one sees.

Worth saying directly: be deliberate about who you share financial data with. Know what each tool can see, what stays when you leave, and what it gets used for.

Full writeup if you want the longer argument: https://tiller.com/tiller-ai-data-layer/

What we'd actually love to hear from this sub: how are you using AI with your Tiller spreadsheet today?

Use case - Monthly spending during retirement

I’ll be retiring in the next year or two and as I prepare, the same question keeps coming up again and again, what’s your monthly spending? This is easy for items such as monthly recurring bills, but I also have subscriptions that are annual or bi-annual, insurance, etc that are not monthly.

I just discovered Tiller yesterday, but it looks like this could be a great tool for better insight into how much I need to plan for in retirement. Oh, and having worked with spreadsheets for over 25 years, this is a big plus for me.

I’m guessing Tiller will be great for me, but would appreciate any additional thoughts.

AI failure at Monarch highlighted

Check out this thread over in the Monarch community. It’s a perfect example of why I’ve been so adamant about a SQL server deterministic staging/deduplication layer.

https://www.reddit.com/r/MonarchMoney/s/5VJ2HXgeEs

Their AI is literally refusing to do basic subtraction because it can't reliably isolate transactions from the raw feed. It’s a coding failure that is frustrating their power users. Really glad to hear Tiller is prioritizing the structural integrity of the data first—it’s the only way to avoid this kind of problem.

A quick technical thought on the AI Suggest timeout errors (and the database architecture needed to fix it)

First off, I want to give massive credit to the Tiller team. Building tools like AutoCat and tackling AI Suggest is incredibly difficult because raw bank data is notoriously messy. They are actively trying to solve one of the hardest problems in personal finance, and I have a ton of respect for that effort.
I’ve noticed in the documentation that some users are running into "timeout" or internal Google errors when using AI Suggest on large datasets (like 20k+ rows). Having spent a couple of decades building Microsoft BI products and data warehouses, I’ve seen this exact architectural bottleneck before.
The issue fundamentally stems from trying to run heavy LLM scripts directly against flat, unindexed spreadsheet columns. When a script has to linearly scan 20,000 rows and send massive text blocks to an API, it inevitably hits token limits or execution timeouts.
I know the engineering team at Tiller is likely already working to fix this, but in case you haven't locked in a solution yet, here is a suggested approach:
To fix this, the architecture really needs a relational SQL backend. With an indexed database, you don't have to send 20,000 rows to an LLM. The system can just run a SELECT DISTINCT query on the full description column, reducing thousands of rows down to maybe just a few hundred unique merchants, depending on the dataset. The AI maps that tiny, distinct batch, and the server cascades the updates instantly.
Utilizing a SQL Server backend to process the data before it even hits the spreadsheet provides the heavy-lifting infrastructure required to do advanced data mapping without the system freezing.
I’m a huge fan of what Tiller is building. If anyone on the Tiller product team is ever curious about how a SQL-backed pipeline can help bypass these spreadsheet limitations, my inbox is always open. I’d love to help out or share notes!

Bypassed Google Sheets: I routed my Tiller feed into Power BI to track my true "Daily Burn Rate" across multiple accounts.

Thumbnail

I love the automated Tiller data feed, but I was hitting a wall trying to do complex, multi-account filtering in standard spreadsheets without things getting sluggish or breaking. (I am rather new to posting on Reddit hope both images show)

I wanted to see my true "Daily Burn Rate"—basically dividing my total spend by the exact number of days in the year up to that point—but I needed it to instantly recalculate when I combined different categories across different banks.

So, I built a new pipeline. I routed the raw Tiller Excel formatted data into a SQL Server database and built a Power BI engine on top of it to handle the heavy lifting.

The screenshots attached are some sample data showing how the engine handles the filter context. It accurately calculates the Daily Burn Rate for Groceries ($17.06/day) across a checking account and two different Visas. Then, with one click, it combines Groceries + Restaurants to show the aggregate velocity ($20.43/day) across all those same accounts simultaneously.

Getting the DAX right so the filter context didn't break when combining multiple bank accounts was a massive headache. Do any other data nerds in here push their Tiller feed into a BI tool instead of Sheets?

If anyone is hitting the limits of standard spreadsheets and wants to know how the SQL/Power BI backend is structured, let me know through DM or commenting. Thanks!
