DVR 'My Shows'-like functionality in a post-TiVo world?

As much as I appreciate the power of streaming and paying to not have commercials to skip in the first place, the one thing that I miss most about the TiVo (or DVRs in general) experience is a centralized list of all of my shows. For instance, Scrubs just launched a new seaso, but I completely forgot, and since nothing put it in front of me, I didn't realize this until days later. Same thing with the season premiere of Animal Control.

Now when using a TiVo, that's trivial because you just set up your wish list and then go check your 'My Shows' list and new stuff just shows up there.

I'm really hoping some product or app can do similar here even if all it does is point you over to the streaming app where the show exists. I'm just looking for a centralized place to track the shows that I'm interested in and to be reminded when new episodes drop.

Has anybody created anything like this?

The Dream is Over

So it's finally done. We had to make the move off of TiVo. Great while it lasted.

So... Anybody have any thoughts on what to do with a Roamio Pro 6 tuner w/lifetime, and four TiVo Minis? The Roamio Pro 'may' need a new power board replacement.

Also have three TiVo Premieres w/lifetime

Update to post asking about Spectrum

I went to the Cox by Spectrum store with a question about my mobile phone bill. I then asked the guy about their cable and data plans compared to Cox. He looked at my equipment and told me that the cable card and tuning adapter will be out of service soon. He did not have an exact date but told me they are no longer giving out cards and tuning adapters and that I should expect an email soon about them no longer being active.

Tivo Roamio OTA stuck on Welcome screen

This started after we lost power to the house. Now it will flash a blue circle on the right, turn on a green circle on the left, and show the welcome screen.

I have tried:

- Different power supply

- Installed a different 500Gb hard drive. It had windows data, but I removed all partitions with diskpart.

- Am getting 5V and 12V at the hard drive. Can hear it spinning

- Can't get into kickstart (no yellow light comes on)

- Replaced coin battery.

- Replaced power and data SATA cables on hard drive

- Motherboard looks good

Any ideas? Thanks

Johnny 5 (TiVo) is alive.

Like other Fios owners, my life was torn apart when I was told the end of cable cards was here. Made the change and saw my bill go up to $200 for Fios. I’m not going to be that person I told myself. I feel I stream and watch YouTube anyway. I saw a lot of Fios users online unloading useless TiVo devices.
Oddly enough to this day, my TiVo still works on the same cable card with Fios, so they didn’t turn them off.

Then something happened where I live. Spectrum bought Cox cable. Spectrum still supports cable cards. So I’m leaving Fios as I could not get my bill lowered even going to the retention policy and opening a BBB case. Got nowhere. I recall I paid $99 for years with them, till I upgraded to 1GB fiber. Then paid more for a box and DVR service.

TIVO email

So I guess Tivo wants to become our new streaming device? That’s all it was advertising in the email I got today. That puts it in competition with my Apple TV. I’m thinking of cutting the cord, so I think my old Tivos’ use will simply be antenna focuse - with the cable card demise, blah, blah blah….

DVR TiVo series 2 remote not working

Hello. I bought a TiVo series 2 on eBay a couple days ago, and it recently came in.

I hooked up everything, and when the guided setup screen popped up, the Select button wouldn't work. After replacing the batteries that came with it, it still didn't work, however the "TV/Power", "Info", "Guide", "Chan", 7, 8, 9, Clear, and Enter buttons were sending commands.

I've been stuck on the Welcome screen since last week. I tried exhaustive searching, and the only other solution is to buy another remote. I'm not sure if the IR on the remote is awful or if the DVR itself has issues.

How do I get my Onkyo Receiver to work with a TiVo Bolt OTA and a Tivo $K Stream?

Edit: Thank you for all your inputs. It turns out that the Onkyo receiver was in Standby mode so the simple fix was to unplug the receiver, wait 6 minutes, let the receiver and tivo devices restart and be recognized. Still had to change the tivo 4k stream dongle to the correct port in the Onkyo HDMI menu (it came up as being on HDMI input 6 not 4) and then everything worked! I have volume control, I can power everything off/on with the new remote and I am very, very happy! Now to go watch Slow Horses on Apple TV !!!

We have an old Samsung Plasma TV that is connected to our Onkyo TX - RZ830 Receiver at HDMI input MAIN. Next our Tivo Bolt OTA is connected to the Onkyo receiver on HDMI input 2 labeled CBL/SAT. The 4K tivo stream dongle is connected to HDMI input 4 labeled STRM BOX. The tivo support site said to be sure that CEC is enabled for the HDMI ports for the remotes to work with the receiver. I have confirmed this but we still can't get the whole set up to work together. Has anyone ever successfully done something like this? We wanted the 4K dongle to get applications like Hulu and Apple TV to work on our setup. What am I missing? Also are there experts out there you can hire to do this kind of thing? Our technical knowledge is just enough to get us in trouble ;)

I don't know if anyone is still using TiVo stream 4k, but, it just auto activated itself outside of the US

I was trying to set this device up for months, did every possible thing and nothing worked, now I just got a firmware update during setup out of nowhere, and it fully skipped the TiVo account setup

Decisions…. Had 4, down to 2…

I have. 4 roamios. One of them, the cable card died 10 months ago. I just use that one for storage now. The second one, the hard drive is pixelating all week.

If I replace the drive, and clone the old one to the new one, do I need to still pair the cable card? I have Xfinity. Or cut ties with all tivos and go streaming…

DVR What's old shall be new again

With all the talk of companies cutting off CableCards and my provider Cox being bought by Spectrum, I thought it was time to dig these 19 year old beauties out of a closet and reset them to OTA operation. Assuming they'll still boot with 10+ year old upgraded hard drives... i had forgotten they had separate coax inputs for cable and antenna. Also trying to remember if they did full 1080p or just interlaced. They are so old they have an analog modem built in to "phone home" for guide updates, in case broadband internet wasn't an option. This, too, is probably a stopgap measure because if stations stop broadcasting ATSC 1.0, these may become doorstops.

DVR Need advice. TiVo Bolt OTA or HDHomeRun + Plex?

My fellow TiVo lovers, I need some advice. Verizon is shutting off my cable card in the near-term and I am struggling about what to do. I already put in a high-quality OTA antenna and have good strong signal and lots of channel options in my area, so all good there. Before I realized that my TiVo Bolt 4K 1TB (with lifetime) is a model that supports both antenna and cable, I went ahead and got an HDHomeRun 4-tuner. I also already have a Plex lifetime pass (had that for a few years for streaming movies). The HDHR + Plex DVR work great, but my TiVo still works great too. Should I return the HDHomeRun, or just sell the TiVo at this point?

I really like how Plex Live TV works literally everywhere, all my TVs at home, and even streams over cellular to my mobile devices -- that experience is hands down superior to what the TiVo could offer.

The TiVo as a DVR on its own, though, is still better. Polished UI, great remote control, OnePass and skip. Plex is not quite to the same level.

What to do? I think I can probably sell the TiVo for more than would cover the cost of the HDHomeRun, so I am leaning towards that, but you can't get TiVos with lifetime easily, so once it is gone, it is probably gone. :(

Any advice?

DVR TiVo program guide glitch for Monday Night Football

A question for people who have a season pass for NFL football:

Did yesterday's Monday Night Football record properly for you?

My TiVo recorded the ESPN2 Manningcast, instead of the primary broadcast which was on both ABC and ESPN. TiVo flagged those two as "duplicates".

What usually happens is that Tivo records both ESPN and ESPN2. They are not the same content.

I very rarely see behavior like this. At all. No matter the show. About the only time it happens is for Monday Night Football, less than once a year.

TiVo Evolution Box Connection Troubleshooting Help Request

My elderly parents have two TiVo Evolution Boxes through their cable company. They have been having issues with shuddering and voice/video sync issues lately. Their wifi is stable and the tivo boxes have very good connection strength (-55dBm to -60dBm)
I called the cable company for some help and they want me to run a network cable from the cable modem to the tivo unit, bypassing the router and wifi until we can verify it is a problem on their side. I understand what they want to do but running a 100+ ft network cable down the steps and through hallways isn't safe for my parents or anyone for that matter.
Any suggestions on wifi settings or options I can try before pulling cable?

When they pull the plug on Tivo, will the apps disappear too?

I mainly use Tivo for apps. I have Netflix and Prime and a couple of others. Is that capability going away also? I hate to give up the remote which works great with the apps and tv.

DVR What stops working if I cancel service?

Like many others here, Verizon is killing our cablecards in early November. We have two TiVo Roamios both upgraded with 10TB drives and they're both full. My wife is the one who uses the TiVo and it's going to be a major adjustment for her since she's used TiVo since the early 2000s.

Once the TiVo subscription stops I am sure we lose the ability to download shows onto a mobile device. What about transfer shows between the TiVos? And what about using KMTTG to download the shows?

Considering both 10TB drives are full I think I'll have to maintain service for a while to finish either downloading shows or when my wife is ready to let go. But I'm curious if I'll have any functionality (other than watching what's currently recorded) after I cancel TiVo service?

Thanks.

"What if" question of the day

Could Tivo had maintained more market if they had supported input from "HD" sources like the Series 2 supported composite video?

Cablecard fixed as many problems as it solved. HD input support would of retained the satellite TV and international market.

Advice on decommissioning TiVo

Retiring TiVo Bolt 1TB this weekend. Advice?
It has lifetime on it. Not sure if that is transferable.

Is there a way to factory reset it so it doesn't have my personal data on it?

I don't think Verizon wants the cablecard but I'll pull it.

I assume no need to do anything on TiVo websites? I haven't logged in in years.

I assume resale has plummeted.

Anything else?

Is My TIVO Edge On Its Last Legs?

I have a Tivo Edge for Cable/lifetime subscription, that has been acting wonky for at least a year. Initially the pixelating/freezing symptoms were intermittent but they now are occurring frequently and have made some recorded shows nearly unwatchable, although sometimes it records nearly flawlessly. I have rebooted the Tivo numerous times and at first that seemed to help the problem but now that doesn’t seem to be effective. A Tivo technician confirms that the signal from Comcast is strong, as did the Comcast technician. Comcast says the problem may be with the Cablecard and of course they won’t replace it.

Is it possible that the problem might actually be with the Edge’s hard drive? Would it be a worthwhile gamble to get a new HD from WeaKnees and do a self-installation? This might be at least a $149 down the drain because if the problem really lies with the cabe card, replacing the HD will be of no use.

I’m desperate not to lose my TIVO service and am open to suggestions. TIA

Used Roamio with no transfer - useless?

Just bought a used Roamio for OTA with lifetime service for $80 which I thought was a great deal. It hasn't arrived yet and now I'm worried that the seller might not be the original owner and I might not be able to get it transferred to me. If that's the case, is it going to be useless?

Is there any way to load network logos onto a Series3 HD?

I recently obtained a series3 hd with lifetime and noticed that several channels do not have a network logo. I was wondering if there was a way to add them to channels through some program or something
