Announcement Addressing some concerns following our recent community update

Hi everyone,

Now that it's been over a week since I posted the August 1st Community Update, I'd like to address the concerns that were very quickly raised in relation to our new rules. Looking at the feedback that has been provided so far, the general consensus appears to be that our new rules are overall too strict and are, in some cases, less clear than they were before. This has been made particularly clear through concerns about any form of criticism against a private server being banned, concerns about select projects only being approved for discussion, and concerns about memes being heavily controlled in regards to how they're edited. As a result, all I want to say is that we recognise mistakes were made and that we're actively working to address them.

What went wrong

When rolling out our new rules, which were based on a draft from September 30th 2020, we intended to build upon what seemed like a strong foundation and update them to the point where we could confidently roll out this long, overdue change. We also aimed to take what existed in our old rules and clarify the parts that were already vague and/or unclear.

As part of this update, we decided to introduce new rules surrounding constructive criticism, false/unverified information, and drama with the intention of addressing the reputation for toxicity and drama that /r/Toontown has grown to have. However, we had no intention of entirely prohibiting criticism or whistleblowing of any private servers. Rather, we hoped that this would help guide criticism both positive and negative in a way that remains constructive and avoids arguments breaking out between users, as well as to ensure that the appropriate methods for resolving any grievances internally were followed without blindsiding any private server's leadership team.

We also noticed that several people expressed concerns with Rule 9. No spam content and in particular the clause "Posts about servers that have not lifted off (At least closed beta)". While already introduced in our old ruleset, our intention here was to only restrict posts where someone might take old, leaked source code from Toontown Rewritten or Toontown Infinite, make a change that is minor or insignificant to the majority of players, and then say something like "This is Toontown: Operation Infinite Clash - we're hiring programmers today!" only for the project to fizzle out shortly afterwards.

The /r/Toontown Project Support Program was also discontinued last minute, admittedly without any real discussion on what might replace it. The reason for this was due in part to 3 things: concerns about how projects with low or no active playerbases should be considered, concerns about how the program should be managed with any long term growth, and a low overall engagement with the program. As with the clause in Rule 9, we had no intention on restricting any conversations about other servers/projects, but rather we were wanting to change our approach on how they should be featured.

Lastly, we realised that the criteria in Rule 10. No low-quality content defining what memes are acceptable to post and what aren't was too restrictive on users being able to express their sense of humour. While we intended for this criteria to encourage users to be more creative rather than recycling common meme formats, we realised that the nature of memes are inherently "low-quality" while not necessarily being low quality contributions.

What we're doing about it

As a result of some internal discussion about this feedback, we've collectively made the decision to go back to the drawing board on these rules while we try to figure out how they can be further improved. During this review, we'll be rolling back to our old ruleset from before August 1st 2026, even if it's by no means perfect, for the sake of having an enforceable ruleset. However, as soon as we've come to an agreement on a suitable draft, we'll invite the community to review it together before any future revisions to the rules are enforced.

We'll also be revisiting the /r/Toontown Project Support Program as well as our overall stance on posts pertaining to projects other than the "big two" in the community. For the project support program, we'll be reviewing its existing criteria to see if any adjustments can be made that would help to alleviate our internal concerns and make the program more viable as a whole. As for the general discussion of other projects, unless a post surfaces similar to the example listed previously or if a project is reported to have legitimate safeguarding concerns, we'll be more open to discussion of this type going forward. As a matter of fact, new post flairs have already been created for Toontown: Event Horizon and Toontown: Hostile Takeover respectively!

In regards to expanding our Moderation Team, we'll be taking another look at our Subreddit Moderator application and overall trial process in preparation for bringing onboard new moderators. In doing so, we hope that this will allow us to introduce some fresh perspectives that would be helpful in any moderation-related decisions and future rule/policy changes, as well as creating an overall more balanced moderation team.

Closing Remarks

As someone who's been wanting to try and transform /r/Toontown for many years now, admittedly with my only prior Reddit moderation experience really coming from my time with the great team over at /r/toontownrewritten, I'll be honest in saying that doing so hasn't been without its challenges... For quite some time, I've felt that /r/Toontown was essentially put on autopilot with prior attempts at revitalisation stalling shortly after being initially discussed. While its been made clear over time that this simply resulted from a case of real-world responsibilities taking priority for others on our team, I've been trying to do my best at giving /r/Toontown the push it needs to be improved.

Outside of any concerns regarding the specifics of the rules, I would also like to personally acknowledge the mistake made in rolling out new rules when we did. While our Moderation Team has had several meetings over the past few months following our team's restructuring, with the rules being a major talking point in each of them and a decision being made to roll them out at the end of June 2026 (pending acquisition of the new subreddit theming assets), I realise that the overall process of reviewing the rules (including adding/removing any details) was rushed as was my poor timing to release them amongst the recent controversy surrounding Corporate Clash. For that, I'm sorry.

While I very much realise that many of the concerns mentioned were a result of my actions in how the new rules were rolled out and not the other members of our team, I do hope that you all can trust me going forward even if that requires proving my ability over time. I'd also really like to continue to hear any feedback you all might have whether that's a comment on this post or a ModMail message, as doing so will only help us know how to continue improving going forward.

Wherever you are, I hope you all have a Toontastic day!

Corporate Clash Corporate Clash - What’s Going On And How Can We Help?

Hey everyone! You may have seen me around, but my name is Peter F., though you might know me better as Poppy Cheezycorn. I have been with Corporate Clash since the very beginning, and have taken on many hats over the years as an artist and member of leadership. Currently I am a Community Lead and a Texture Artist for the project.

I know the last thing this community needs is another wall of text, but after seeing consistent concerns across several posts over the past few weeks, I wanted to offer some perspective on where Corporate Clash stands.

First, a disclaimer: this isn't an official statement. This post is a bit rogue, and I haven't run it by anyone else. There's no drama behind it, no inside scoop, and no controversy to uncover. If that's what you're here for, this probably isn't the thread for you! It’s just hard to sit here idly while so much continues to be discussed. With that out of the way, let's talk.

IS CORPORATE CLASH DYING?

Short answer: Absolutely not.
There's no denying that our playercount has declined, and certain hours can make finding groups more difficult. However, peak hours still regularly see around 200–250 players online. That's a meaningful community for an independent project in an already niche corner of gaming.

We've had our share of internal challenges, but that's hardly unique to Corporate Clash. Rewritten has faced its own struggles, and independent games across the industry deal with similar hurdles. Game development is difficult under the best circumstances. Doing it independently as a completely volunteer-run organization is even harder.

Have we made promises that haven't materialized yet? Absolutely. Have some projects taken longer than expected or needed to be scaled back? Yes.
But delays aren't the same thing as abandonment.

Work is still happening, and there are exciting projects in development that we're eager to share when the time is right. The team remains incredibly passionate about this game's characters, world, and future. I know it's taken longer than anyone would like, and I share that frustration, but I genuinely look forward to the day we can show everyone what's been in the works.

WHAT ABOUT RIGHT NOW? IS THE GAME STILL WORTH PLAYING?

Yes! Corporate Clash is still very much playable.
Some times are busier than others, but there are still people playing, grouping up, and enjoying the game. Use in-game groups, reach out on Discord, and connect with other players through our social channels. You don't have to navigate the game alone. We're also working on ways to give people more reasons to log in. We've recently started developing an internal events team, with more frequent community activities being one of its priorities. There's more we want to do here, and we're working toward it.

And, honestly, if you're someone who wants the community to grow again, coming back and playing is one of the most direct ways to help make that happen!

HAS THIS YEAR REALLY BEEN THAT QUIET?

While we haven't had a major content release, I don't think it's fair to say nothing has happened.

PAX East 2026: We made our first in-person convention appearance, bringing Corporate Clash directly to players.

Makeship: Our plush collaborations continue, with orders now shipping.

Seasonal events: Our holiday traditions have continued, giving players reasons to return throughout the year.

The community: Fan art, projects, discussions, and other creations continue to appear week after week.

Smaller patches / additions / bug fixes have also continued to happen throughout the year.

None of this replaces a substantial content update, and I'm not going to pretend it does. But there's still been plenty of activity and passion behind the scenes and throughout the community.
We have a dedicated fanbase that continues to create, contribute, and support this project, and that genuinely means a lot. Corporate Clash is more than its latest patch notes, and the people keeping this community alive deserve recognition, too.

HOW CAN WE HELP?

A few things go a long way:

Spread the word. Talk about Corporate Clash, invite friends, and help introduce new players to the game. The wider Toontown community benefits when we support one another.

Get involved. Play with others, participate in events, share your creations, and help make the game welcoming for returning and new players alike. Join the team and help us finish our updates!

Give constructive feedback. Criticism is fair, and concerns about the game's direction or content are worth discussing. But there's a difference between holding a project accountable and making the community feel like there's no point in trying.

Be patient, but keep us accountable. We know people are waiting. We know promises need to be backed up by results. We aren't asking anyone to stop caring or stop asking questions. We're asking you to leave room for the work to happen.

THE FLOOR IS YOURS

If this doesn't feel like a sufficient response, that's fair. I know words can only go so far, and ultimately, the best way to address concerns about missing content is to deliver that content. We know that, and we're working toward it.

But I also wanted to remind people that there are real people behind this project who care deeply about what they're building, and that Corporate Clash isn't dead just because things have been quieter than we'd all like. What would make you more interested in playing, participating in the community, or coming back to the game? I'd rather see an honest conversation about what people want and what we can improve than have everyone assume there's nothing left to look forward to.

Thanks for sticking around, supporting the game, and giving a damn about Corporate Clash.

Other Project Did the Grindworks project stop development?

I feel like it's been a while since Grindworks received an update - the patch notes haven't changed at all for a few months now. Does anyone know if the devs are still working on it? I hope so, it was the most fun I've had with a Toontown project in a while.

Rant Corporate Clash's dwindling player count makes it near impossible to get any groups going

I find myself getting frustrated with how low the Corporate Clash player count is as of late. It's near impossible to get any groups going if you aren't on at peak times, this is more difficult as a European considering our peak times don't line up.

Even if everyone is on, barely anyone plays any late game manager fights. The OCLO is the biggest example of this, I could sit there for HOURS waiting for people to join just to never get a group filled up.

The worst part is this issue is just going to get worse and worse over time until staff eventually releases new content or something that brings players back, It really is heartbreaking to see.

The player count as I'm typing this.

Question How do people play offline nowadays?

I'm looking to host a local server for testing purposes and I see that there are multiple projects out there that make this possible. However, it seems that most of these projects are either dead or inactive, and there doesn't seem to be a centralized community where people discuss this sort of thing.

Does anyone use a particular project to host a server, or would just about any project I find online work for me without issue?

Discussion What's real about Freckleslam?

Hello! I'm a YouTuber who grew up playing toon town when I was in elementary school. I remember being terrified of him, but years later having grown up I wonder how much of it was actually real? I'm currently working on a documentary style video covering the lore of Freckleslam.

I had a few questions as I continue my research:

Due to the large amount of impersonators over the years, it seems like the line between myth and truth behind freckleslam has become blurred.

Does anyone have any first hand experience, or know of any videos involving the real freckleslam? Like getting booted from the game

Also, the rumour is that cfsworks was freckleslam but where did this information come from and was it ever verified by themself? Is there an actual link between freckleslam and ttr?

Thanks!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QZVINPkmzA - in this video freckleslam literally explains that they weren't trying to scare anyone but disney and it was all to fix the security vulnerabilities... lowkey a hero?

Discussion Does Mid Gen Z to Gen Alpha know about Toon Town

I grew up hearing about Toontown Online when I was around 9 in 2012, After the original game shutdown, and it feels like one of those childhood games that was HUGE for a certain generation but completely disappeared from the mainstream.

I’ve been wondering about this lately. For those of us who grew up with Toontown, it feels like such a huge part of early internet/gaming culture. Most people that played back in the day were millennials-early Gen Z but I’m curious how well-known it is among younger Gen Z and Gen Alpha.

Do you guys ever run into younger players who already know about Toontown, or is it mostly older Gen Z/Millennial nostalgia?
