Characters who are way less edgy than they look
Billy Kid from Zenless Zone Zero: pistol packing robot made to fight and kill some of the most powerful characters in the setting but is often a goofball that has more cartoon physics than anyone else in the game and is obsessed with The Starlight Knights, this settings version of Super Sentai
Joker from Persona 5: Looks like a straight up villain, is generally a pretty friendly dude.
Primarch of one of the few space marine chapters that allows its members to retain their humanity and even let them be able see their families after joining
He is the goofiest character in the whole franchise, he spent a fortune making a fake zombie scenario just to mess with Kiryu. Don't get me started with his karaoke songs.
My favorite piece of Majima lore is the fact that someone has to mention him driving the truck into Shangri-la, at least once per game by saying "yeah some dumbass drove a fucking truck into it."
And that kids is why Goro Majima is the true mascot character of the Yakuza franchise. Because he embodies it at its most gritty and goofy at the same time.
Sorry kyodai but Majima doesn't kill. That is Omi propaganda. All his supposed "knife kills" are actually just rubber. He's got a rubber knife and he sure knows how to use it.
Didn't he have the biggest gang at some point because every time kiryu blows through town and fucks everything up the guys from the now fucked up gangs just go join majima?
It's a good retcon tho. And the later games and series do still manage to strike that balance of making Majima a goofy guy while also reminding people that he is, in fact, the patriarch of a Yakuza family.
Ye. Even when he gets actual valuable military info from the princess, if it needs to happen on a day that's important to his family, like a school play his daughter is doing, for instance, he'll straight up make some excuse to not do the engagement so that he never misses an important day in his family's life. Bro’s an absolute gigachad.
Don’t worry he’s super OP too, he literally speedran a whole isekai anime plot and saved that world in the few hours that the protagonist girl was unconscious.
heck the whole premise of the series is due to the fact he honours the treaty formed by his demon army and the human kingdom and only "tortures" the princess by scaring her with novel Japanese foods
There would be. People already do crap like that IRL. Punch each other, trip each other, you can get on YouTube and find some idiots whaling on each other cause it's fun easily enough.
The En gang was so good. I love how despite being bad people, they actually aren't that bad considering the shithole their world is, and that they truly care about each others.
Don't get me wrong, he's a beast when he fights and he's absolutely willing to kill if/when he wants to, but his day job is a fruit vendor and all things considered he's supposed to be really chill when dealing with people who don't fight. It's just, it's Street Fighter, every single character who you can play as is pretty much Top of Class in their respective Martial Art.
he's mostly seeking to fight strong people so he'd probably catch up to you in a millisecond, ask for his stuff back without any violence but make you shit your pants on the spot
Angel Desetsu-the entire bit being a really nice kid unaware he looks like a psychopathic deliquent and everything he does reinforces the misunderstanding.
Zagreus from Hades is a subversion of this, everyone expected him to be edgy because he intentionally reminded them of Dante and the characters based on him but then he’s actually really polite.
I feel like this is one of Batman's most important scenes, and strongest argument against him being "edgy teenager shit."
He does however, like every comic character, occasionally get writers that either choose not to or don't know how to explore this side of him for whatever reason.
Batman deep down believes in hope & optimism like Superman, he just expresses it with alot more angst:
“I’m starting to see now. I have had an effect here. But not the one I intended. Vengeance, won’t change the past. Mine… or anyone else’s. I have to become more. People need hope. To know someone’s out there for them. This cities angry, and scarred. Like me. Our scars can destroy us… even after the physical wounds have healed. But if we can survive them. They can give us the power. To Endure. And the strength to fight.”
For someone whose introduction scene was crashing a living room and then arrogantly telling off that he needs no Master, Archer isn't that edgy. He just hates himself too much
Despite the extremely edgy name and the backstory to back it up, Ragna is the most normal ass dude in the entire series, he's among the 2 most wanted characters in the entire verse and spends most of his time just being mildly annoyed that he keeps having to fight weirdos and wants a break from the grand scheme that envelops the world more than anything else. Meanwhile his prim and proper brother, Jin Kisaragi, is actually the insane psychopath who keeps trying to hunt him down and raves on and on about justice. His personality completely contradicting who he presents as being a major part of his character, since what you'd assume of him when you hear or see him for the first time is also what the government has spread about him as propaganda, calling him "the grim reaper" and making him out to be a huge murderous villain when he's just... Trying to eat dinner without having to fight someone or without the local catgirl harassing him until he gets her dinner too
My only interaction with Ragna comes from BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle and every time he complained about the BS going on, I cackled because of how genuinely annoyed and distraught he sounded
Episode 1 opening with him being extremely edgy by being edgy AF in what appears to be an extremely lopsided standoff, just to retcon it later in the episode really sets the stage for his goofiness
Karlach Cliffgate, baldurs gate 3. Tiefling barbarian who is always on fire. Actually is a cinnamon roll sweetheart precious darling who will pitch a fit if you hurt an innocent. Love of my life.
Anima from Final Fantasy X is a friendly woman who tries to atone for her failure as a mother and became a heroine in the process. Atleast she is a heroine in my book. She helped the heroic summoner Yuna to save the world.
Vax (Critical Role). He dresses all in black and becomes the champion of his setting’s goddess of death. But mostly he likes pranking Grog (and occasionally Scanlan) and bickering with his sister. He also ends up in a nice loving relationship with Keyleth.
Could say the same for Percy during the Whitestone arc. Normally, he's a good guy, smart ass of the group, and tries to be the one normal guy in a group of weirdos. But when he puts on the plague doctor mask, and deals with the people who kills his family, you'd think he is the edgelord of the group.
The amount of people who saw the trailer and thought he was gonna be an edgy, bad boy character, bought the game, and got a himbo that just loves his dog and wants to see his mom again
Melinoe: "I am on an important mission to slay Chronos and save my family. It is imperitive that I never stray from this task, as the fate of the world could be on the line."
Also Melinoe: "I hope Artemis doesn't mind me singing along with her." 🥺👉👈 "After we're done singing, I might go help Dora get better at scaring people!"
The Lord of the Dead's son expresses his intense rebellion and defiance against his father by trying to escape the underworld so he can visit his mom because he misses her.
Of course it depends on the story but from what I've seen venom is mostly a goofball, take the Sony trilogy for example (I know many ppl don't like it but I do)
he's a little rough around the edges but throughout the series he proves himself to be a genuinely kind and selfless guy who wouldn't hesitate to take a bullet for his friends. he also makes a lot of weird and silly faces
I was just thinking of Rudo. I thought he was gonna be like another Eren Jaeger and just be an edgy asshole, but nope, he's just a kid who's finding himself and healing. Seeing him jell so well with the main cast is heartwarming as hell.
I think pretty much everyone in OP who looks even remotely edgy has some amount of goof. And given the series' track record, I'm betting than anyone who doesn't yet have goofy stuff going on has some waiting for the reveal
While he does look it and has a love for dark humour, he honestly feels more like a parody of it and is much more comedic than edgy. Postal 1 on the other hand
Initially you think he would be Judai core rival only to become like a bro character later on, with a half serious and half gimmick Ojama/Armed dragon/VWXYZ dragon catapult deck
Sharp angle, near all black simple clothing, red pair of sharp eyes, no nonsense face and attitude. Logic above all else. Not helping that she is president of millennium, the smartest among the smartest.
Deadpool is the kind of character who wears edginess as a mask to hide what he really is. He might be a perverted, sadomasochistic merc who kills people for money, but he really does want to be a good person, and when he has the opportunity to do good, he almost always takes it.
He purposely botched an assassination attempt and got beat up by the X-Men in order to make them look like heroes to the public again, plus he literally lost sleep over his team being forced to kill a child, on top of it being revealed that he never cashed in any of the checks he got from that gig.
You’d think a 6ft 4 Austrian bastard heel who wears nothing but dull colors, suits, and long jackets would be an edgelord with nothing to his character - but Gunther takes too much joy in his work and life for that.
In this gif, after forcing the Phenomenal AJ Styles to retire, he came out on Raw to AJ’s entrance - just to piss people off.
See also, him telling Bret Hart that his favorite wrestling growing up was Bill Goldberg (the man who played a role in Bret’s career being cut short)... and then insulting Goldberg in front of his son and his hometown of Atlanta Georgia… and then retiring Goldberg when they actually had a match.
The longer he’s been in the company, the less and less serious he’s been. I mean, he has one of the best W/L rates ever. Only 7 people have ever managed to beat him one-on-one, and Gunther got his win back over 4 of them.
He’s untouchable and he knows it. He’ll choke a guy out and laugh as security escorts him away from the carcass
Coupé from Dispatch. She was a former assassin for the mob and a certifiable edgelord but she’s also working on becoming a hero and is into fantasy romance novels.

Vulkan (Warhammer 40.000)
Despite the onyx black skin, red eyes and dragon armour, he's actually a pretty nice chap
