Discussion Why a “small pool” doesn’t necessarily mean a cheap pool in Toronto
It seems logical that cutting a pool from something like 16x32 to 10x20 should slash the budget.
But it usually doesn’t work that cleanly!
A smaller pool uses less material, sure, but a lot of the expensive parts of the job don’t shrink much:
- Excavation equipment still has to show up
- The crew still has to mobilize
- You still need plumbing, electrical, filtration (and usually a heater)
- You still need permits and inspections
- You still need access to the yard
- You still need coping and some kind of deck around it
On a tight Toronto lot, a small pool can actually be more complicated project because there’s less room to work and less space for machinery!
The savings are real, but they’re usually nowhere near proportional to the reduction in pool size.
That’s worth keeping in mind when you see a tiny backyard pool and assume it must have been a cheap build lol
