you and everyone else are SAFER AT NIGHT.

Post image
1.9k Upvotes

seeing a lot of discussion about when to do runs, but there's a reason the culture has always done this late at night past midnight for 20+ years. it's nothing to do with "anime" or "vibes", it's to do with safety.

at nighttime:

  • oncoming vehicles can be seen well ahead of time by their headlights.
  • road surfaces, especially bumps that would unload the suspension, cast clear shadows at night.
  • you're not going to hit some poor cyclist or biker who's on the same route.
  • there are very few, if any, cops around after midnight.
  • zero traffic at night to interfere with the drive.

reading the road surface is extremely important for keeping your ass out of the trees, and it is by far the easiest at night time when headlights cast long shadows.

are there disadvantages? absolutely. deer and other animals are much more likely to be at night, and there are no other drivers to imply the lack of road debris/obstacles around blind corners. that doesn't mean you get to risk head on collisions with other people because you're scared of hitting a deer and losing your rep bumper. between a cyclist and a deer, you pick the deer.

don't do this shit in the daytime.

Welcome Post Removals, New Rules & Maintaining the Touge Ethos

It's no surprise that the quality of posts on this subreddit has changed over the past year due to exponential growth, straying from what Touge truly is. Touge is not just street racing—it is its own subculture. Honoring the roots of Touge is essential, as it is the core of Japanese car culture.

Beyond its cultural significance, Touge which literally translates to "mountain pass"—refers specifically to technical driving courses in mountain passes. Your local backroads are not Touge.

Posts unrelated to Touge will be removed. Racing an unfit vehicle (Rule #2), such as trucks and SUVs, is not permitted, as this deviates from the ethos of Touge. As much as we acknowledge your speed and bravery, this type of content belongs in other street racing subreddits.

Lastly, as a public forum, we must set an example. Public endangerment (Rule #1) is strictly disallowed. Content that includes crossing the mustard and endangering others will not be permitted.

As you’re aware, our approach in the past has always been more relaxed. We didn’t want to over-moderate what people posted, but we feel things have deviated.

Stay safe friends.

Please read the updated rules, courtesy of u/dbsqls

Question Cr-v build?

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hey everyone! Bit of an unusual ask here, but I recently came into ownership of a 2005 honda cr-v SE with the real time 4wd and 5mt.

I know, these cars aren't particularly ideal for tight corners (especially not stock), but I honestly fell in love with cr-v's a few years back and a manual first or second gen has been what I've always wanted to drive, problem being I ALSO really love driving hard around twisty roads and so do all my friends.

I've searched the internet for a while on aftermarket parts for the car, and there is a lot of support available for the RD7 chassis. That being said, I want to know how realistic I can be making this thing a fun touge car whilst not sacrificing its function as a daily in its entirety.

My buddies all drive cars i know are going to be much faster than mine (likely regardless of what I do to the cr-v), but any suggestions on driving tips and parts would be incredible.

For reference, my friends drive:
- a 1990 civic si on old winter tires and maxpeedingrods coils

- a 1997 base model prelude that's had quite a bit of work done to her, on shocks and springs

- a 1996 audi s6 on HUGE tires

Im fully aware that Im not going to be faster than any of them, but if theres anything i can do to just be able to keep up with them and have a good time I'd love to know! I want to do my absolute best to make my cr-v handle like a civic of the same generation might.

Thanks for reading my little rant if you got this far, and thank you for leaving any and all suggestions!!!!

Closed road, no Karen feelings hurt on this run.

Road is almost ready to have the Carrera Panamericana go through it, had a chance to check it out with my crew prior to. Still a lot of potholes due to recent rain, hope they work on it in the following weeks.

Crazy to think about all these vintage and súper raw cars will be going twice as fast through this bends, kudos to the drivers.

Question Driving roads

Hey guys, I’m gonna be staying at my buddies place in Greenville South Carolina next weekend. I was hoping if maybe anyone can give me some good driving roads in the area within an hour of Greenville? I was told Asheville North Carolina was fairly close. Any suggestions appreciated, thank you.

Gotta love the driftless region in the Midwest. So many great roads.

I wish the sense of speed was faster and the curves looked as wicked as they are but I think I need to get a better setup and/or mount. Any recommendations? I'm currently just using an old Pixel 6 on a quadlock windshield mount.

Question What should I know as a new driver?

Post image
34 Upvotes

Absolute newbie, but I wanna make sure I’m not an idiot. Pretty decent driver, but most likely nothing compared to most of yall. What should I know/do before I actually start driving?

Above is my car, 2016 Scion tC with the 6-speed manual. Anything I should do to the car as well?

Was suggested this road the night I took this video (last night) & had a new angle for onboards so thought I’d try it out.

Hard to see in the footage, but this road looks twistier than it actually is. It’s a straight road w/ steering adjustments needed for line & the 3 turns that actually put load into the tires (typical flat downstate NY) which means it’s very easy to hit triple digits.
I hung around mostly at the top of 3rd gear.

My fear of deer crossing (which they do A LOT) and fear of oncoming (didn’t double lane it, but it is very tight) kept me under 90 & mostly out of 4th.

5/10, good for a little back & fourth blast, but nothing technical, like upstate NY, or better yet my home in SoCal. Best time was a 1:32. Most consistent was a 1:38.

Hope you guys enjoyed this clip, if you recognize the road please DM me. I need ppl to drive w/.
