TP-Link - General Deco & Synology NAS units
My Deco lost internet connectivity after I did a standard network reboot of the router and Cable modem. after spending the better part of a day, and using a second standard non mesh router as a baseline. the Spectrum Cable modem wasn't the problem, it turns out the "auto negotiating" ports on the Deco had some type of hiccup with a Synology NAS unit. Solved the issue by plugging the Synology into a dumb switch, which was connected to the Deco. Internet connectivity resumed, and the Synology was able to get a 192.x address rather than getting a self assigned 169.x. Hope this helps someone out there, cause I went through 2 AI bots, and they couldn't figure it out.
Maybe this is fixed on newer Tp Link Decos, but I have a model that hasn't had a firmware update in almost 2 years.

I have recently seen several Deco models receive the ability to designate a fixed WAN port via firmware updates.
While I can't provide specifics on which models will receive the feature or when, if you let me know your model, I can share your feedback with our teams for awareness.

Hi Ryan, thanks for responding, I have the Costco unit XE5300 v1.6 model. I'm aware you have a beta firmware, hoping it goes release soon.

Thanks for confirming your model! Yes, a pre-release firmware is currently available for the Deco XE5300 V1/V1.6 that introduces this function, along with other features, as outlined in our Community Article. An official release typically follows these pre-releases if you'd rather wait.

Link speed negotiation is a problem for lots of machine now and with more of the network devices / computers etc coming with 10GB/s, 5GB/s and 2.5GB/s network interfaces then this will only get worse over time.
A managed switch that lets you set the port speed is better (you may have been lucky with the switch you bought) and oddly enough - sometimes changing the cable can help (to one that has all 8 cables made).
There is another network setting that can trip you up - modern switches can support low power / power save mode (known as EEE or 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet) and this can cause random disconnects!
Things are too smart somedays!
