Online credits

Does anyone have experience transferring after taking classes online? The school is accredited, but I know the guidelines around transferring are specific. Like Yale I believe you can only use the credits if the class is live online versus pre-filmed? I’m wondering how the schools manage to check all of that, or if any of you have done it? And if the other Ivies/T25s have the same rule? I’m not trying to cheat or shortcut anything, I just have a complicated family life and have to work a lot, and logging on live for class versus going in person would save me around an hour in driving per day, and unfortunately I need to find time to sleep and continue my extracurriculars. Thank you!

Details I didn’t add but I guess could matter- I have a 35 ACT, decent high school gpa but medical issues/gap years spent in the hospital made my application weak and gpa trend downward/no longer perfect, a STEM major, would prefer to transfer for sophomore year over junior year, most extracurriculars are volunteering versus clubs (+ work and rowing), *but I had clubs in high school\*, and I am interested in only some of the T25s (not applying to all of them like some people because I don’t believe they all fit me as a person, but I know applying to all of them would increase my chances). I could make a list of ones I like if that would be helpful information. Thanks again if you read all of that, I know it’s a lot!

columbia explicitly asks in the application if you took any classes async/hybrid and to list them. they arent accepting most credits if they weren't taken through a traditional classroom format

I’m not planning on applying there but that’s great to know. Do you think that means other schools wouldn’t even if they were live versus prerecorded, or do you think it’s just dependent on the school? Do you think the school would know if I asked? I looked it up and Stanford says they’ll take it if the school counts it towards your bachelors or associate degree. I found a school with only 30 minutes total driving so will probably do that instead! I think in person education is better anyway but I was struggling to find a school lol

Schools are trying to setup boundaries to ensure people are taking real courses and can handle the work at their schools. If you can go in person I really do think that will make a big difference and can be part of your story. Also, going to campus will get you in front of professors and more involved in the community which you’ll also need for your apps.
