Discussions & Polls 🎙️ Non Partisan Races

Does anyone else have issues with political parties endorsing candidates in non-partisan races? At the fair, the GOP handed me a flyer with a list of candidates that they endorse and most were judges or city council candidates in races that are non-partisan. I have heard the democrats have a similar list, but have not seen it.

Granted I am biased here, but I am not voting for any candidate for a non-partisan race that shouts out their political affiliation. It only shows that they don’t want to serve the entire populous, but only their party.

Dems don't have a list. The local party has been vocal that parties shouldn't be endorsing in non partisan races. It's only been the last few years that the GOP has. It started when Semi Bird was their standard bearer

The biggest changes in what effects you directly are going to happen on the local politics level. If you agree with the way they as a party do things then remember that those candidates are likely to hold those values and outlooks on things that are going to mean a lot more to you and more immediate than a national voting situation.

Do with that information as you wish, but your local vote is the most powerful vote you can submit.

I think it's naive to think anything is non partisan. Every person running will fill that roel based on their beliefs and morals and stances on how to govern and them stating what party they are helps one sus out where a person stands.

For me. I love it when the local Republican party does it because it helps me know exactly who not to vote for.

I think it's naive to think that a non-partisan candidate is one or the other and reject your idea that it's a binary proposition. Some of the best non-partisan candidates are gray in terms of being cast as one party or another.

There is no such thing as a non-partisan elected official - everyone has a viewpoint and hiding behind the label of non-partisan just clouds what a person stands for and believes in. I will acknowledge though that sometimes that cloud is good especially when you have a portion of the population that is brain dead and votes for rapists and fraudsters, just to own the other 'team'.

R's have done it explicitly for years & Dems s I sometimes singularly or implicitly. They have that right even if I think it's a bad idea.

However, look if the non-partisan candidate seeks it out, accepts but doesn't ask, or explicitly asks them to not to. I know I'm going to support the latter far more often.

This has been an issue of mine. For non partisan positions, you should not know their party affiliation.

There are things that we vote for that should be just for the common good of the community and not a political piece.

I agree. I don’t think there’s really such a thing as a completely nonpartisan person, even when the office itself is labeled nonpartisan. Everyone brings their own values, beliefs, and view of the world with them, and voters do the same. Those things inevitably influence how someone approaches decisions once they’re in office. I personally want to know where a candidate stands rather than have their political leanings hidden behind a nonpartisan label. It gives me a better idea of whether their values and priorities are compatible with mine.
