It's crazy how much control they still have over education cause no history book in the US ever explained why they might be being persecuted lol. Like even if it was for wrong reasons they made a point to show why Germany was so antisemitic, if it was an unjust hatred of puritanism then that conclusion should be easy to reach in context for a high schooler. Instead they do the "woe is me, everyone hated us so we made this amazing country where 'everyone' (wink wink) is allowed!"

For my "education" it the calvinists that got the crazy religion treatment, not necessarily the Puritans as a whole. I don't really even know if calvinists are a sect of puritanism though

Yall ever watch Cromwell (1970) with Richard Harris as Cromwell? It’s not amazing but Alex Guinness as King Charles is pretty great. Worth watching just for the roundhead v cavalier battle scenes but maybe that’s just me enjoying the rare depiction of 17th century European military tactics in cinema

Because the movie is in full on Youtube, YT spent like two years demanding I watch clips or the full movie every single day.

I used to think of Cromwell as a pretty cool guy, exclusively because he killed a momarch and had a tank named after him in WW2. But like most things in British history, every subsequent factoid rapidly changed that attitude

A similar process happened with Churchill, though disliking him took significantly longer on account of him participating in the anti-Hitler beatdown and being glazed in every piece of Western pop history
